I have the Illusion albums framed and on the wall in my studio. They are there for a very specific reason, not just because I'm a huge fan of the music, but also for what those albums represent. Those albums are their musical statement of THEIR brand of rock n roll. They recorded songs THEY loved, songs that didnt need to fit into a specific genre or category. The diversity in creativity throughout all the different types of songs on those albums inspires my own work every single day.

They are 2 albums. I remember I bought UYI 1 tape and UYI 2 CD. The thing is I played that tape so much that I screw it up at some point. So I bought the CD later anyway. But I still keep that tape. Before that I got AFD and Lies tapes as well, same story. So I bought the CDs later and I still keep those fucked up tapes. I was growing up in those days going from teenage years into adulthood. I have many memories of many things going on in my life at the time attached to those tapes. I can´t get rid of them.
man this could have been me typing this word for word but i was 15.cant get rid of them either for the same damn reason

THAT is who is married to Stephanie Seymour?? MY god
-
i was 18 when they released UYI and the reason at the time gnr was doing that and was said in many interviews at the time, was that a kid could afford to go buy 1 album as opposed to the cost of having to buy a double album
-
uh whut??
I would say he's less bloated by his voice
Fat men have higher pitched voices than thin men.
uhh whut?
-
but i didn't hear him cracking any jokes so his blood must be boiling over all this reunion chatter!
-
well, the plane video clip clearly states his thoughts on a reunion lol
-
the solo was split between the 2 leads and i am thinking it was always more for feel and a change in emotion and texture of the solo and it was one of the ONLY times i actually have enjoyed the 2 lead approach. Could not stand DJ, but cant bash him on this one

It saddens me to see fans post their fury at the illogical nature of Axl Rose.
This is who he has always been. It's a sheer miracle that GNR lasted as long as it did in the first place. Axl has always been so incredibly vital and also so incredibly damaging to this band.
If Axl had the power he wields now but in 1987, you can bet that AFD would never even have been released.
So, don't expect anything logical out of him. There will be no reunion, no press tour, no official statement. Ever.
what do they say about never saying never?

For people that prefer CD over any Guns album- that's fine but you realize it's NOT Guns n Roses right? It's (for all intents) an Axl Rose solo album. Period.
and opinions are like assholes!

does anyone else look back on the entire way BBF left the band...not being able to discuss his exit etc. as being a sign this was all going on??
-
this video bothers me, but i am not sure if it should!? is this passive aggressiveness on BBF's part lol
-
really appreciate you taking the time out to post all of this...for whatever reason, i seem to take what Frank says as more honest, but really, what the fuck do any of us know!
-
you know, i had respect for BBF up until reading this, what a fucking douche bag stringing this all along for no reason at all...at least Cashba was a man about it all
-
A GNR album would sell well by reasonable expectations. The label would not lose money on it.
i agree completely, especially if most of the tracks he has in the can are recordings that were part of the bloated CD budget we have all heard about over and over

if Izzy is such a genius, shouldn't he already have mastered the guitar and finally play the lead?
I mean, it's not 1985 and he doesn't compete against young Slash
it's 2015 - and now that Izzy has been sober for 26 years, he's had a lot more time to practice
if he still has to play rhytm, behind Duff... um...
you know, that would make logical sense BUT...i work with two guitar players and i actually call the rhythm guy izzy because he is such a subtle but unreal rhythm player and i feel really lucky to work with him but do you think the guy can solo worth a shit?? And im talking behind his back he fully admits it..its two totally different worlds lead and rythym

Id have to say the Hammerstein shows in '06. There was nothing quite like the atmosphere for those gigs, on the forum, and if you were lucky enough to attend any of them, in NYC and at the gigs. It was amazing. Plus it helped that Axl and the band killed it pretty much all 4 nights.
i remember buying the DVD's for those shows off some random guy on the internet at the time they really were great shows to see even if the guy with the camera was a bit rusty on maintaining a steady hand!

I truly believe that neither of them are worthy of any "praise" for anything they've done since 1996.
just out of curiosity, if you haven't enjoyed anything that either of them have done since 1996, why are you on this forum? I am not trying to be a dick at all, i really am curious

Those of us who were fans in their heyday, how did you expect them to be in 20+ years? Surely a thought or two came to your mind.
Maybe lots of album? Or did you expect them to break up like a lot of bands?
Back then, how did you expect them to look like in their 50s?
i never thought for 2 seconds ever what they would look like 20 years later, but i didnt think that all the members would still be alive today that's for sure
-
No, he could've done the same thing as John Lydon (start a solo-project) and I'm sure it would've been less of a hassle and he would've got a lot more respect (industry/public alike). What is happening now is just embarrassing beyond words for a band that people once fondly named among the likes of Metallica, the Stones and/or Led Zeppelin as true rock n' roll legends.
i agree with your thoughts..so are you saying you would have rather had it all end and be the end back in 1993 then?
-
Safe to assume that all of us want more than what axl has given us since the formation of NuGnr.
But I was thinking..if you told me back in 1995 when you basically knew Gnr was over and you may never hear from Axl again, that we would have tours in 02, 06, 10 etc..and have CD in 2008, i honestly would have taken that and been very happy, so i am going to stop bitcin.
I am just curious if anyone else feels the same way?

Seems to be GnR were a big load of girls anyway...were they not such massive tarts they'd be together now and one of the most successful bands in the world, instead scratching their arses for a living releasing sub-standard quality material while the best singers busying getting wanked off by his housekeeper.
....busying getting wanked off by his housekeeper....no wonder the guy doesn't give a shit about his fans anymore. But hey, free speech lives loud n proud on this board so everybody clap their hands
Oh boo fuckin' hoo, lets all have a cry about the poor millionaire rock star scared to read the internet because people say mean mean things. Suddenly it's my fault rock stars have been cunts to their fans since year dot now too
its not about saying mean things at all...its just sayin stupid shit thats so fuckin annoying
What do you think of Axl Rose as a songwriter?

i think axl has a great way of expression through words...as a song writer, simplicity is often the key to success ( insert CD over produced/mixed/layered comment here) pick almost any song of appetite and the illusions and listen to the chorus of most of them....simple, repetitive and emotional
