But there was no reason for botox, he had no N ...Axl looked the most weird in 1999. His head looked thinner and his face looked like he used an acid mask. Almost no facial hair... like an oiled baby butt.hqdefault.jpg

Just one year before this Interview he looked like this.296.jpg

I always wondered why he had no eyebrows there. Kind of strange contrast there from a masculine to feminine look. I too, thought he might have been sick that year.

Exactly. I'd much rather talk about Axl and Erin then Chris Pitman or Melissa Reese or how many copies CD really sold. I couldn't care less about Pitman or sales statistics for CD, but I don't go into these threads complaining about the people who do enjoy talking about these things. To each their own.

Yes, when I like a celebrity or entertainer, I'm interested in their whole life, what makes them tick. Axis life is pretty interesting and Erin was a big part of the GnR lore. So yeah, I'm interested. This is why biographys sell people!

    Rawr.

A lot of guys could fill in for Brian. Go to any forum that isn't a GnR forum and you will see a lot of music fans who don't worship Axl and his voice like you do. A screeching cat is something that gets repeated. Heck, a lot of people were begging for the singer from Jackyl to take the substitute job. Jason McMaster could have easily done it. Singing with that gravely rasp - it isn't exclusive to Axl and Brian.

The vocal range thing was kind of a sham. Hitting a note for one second doesn't mean you are an expert at every note in that range. And even Axl said he wasn't number one. Mick Jagger doesn't have a huge vocal range, does that mean he isn't amazing?

Your idolization of Axl is fun to watch. It's good he still has such devoted fans who think he does nothing wrong.

But there is no game over or undeniable fact. There is your opinion.  Which you are entitled to. But just because you strongly believe something doesn't mean it's a fact. Not by a long shot.

I would highly suggest you expand your horizons a bit and listen to some other singers. You might be surprised at what you find. The music world doesn't revolve around Axl. There actually are some people out there with amazing voices.

Acdc was in Axl's wheelhouse. It wasn't a stretch for him to sing these songs. GnR has been doing acdc covers for years.

Fanboy worship aside. Axl is one of the greatest rock frontmen of all time. His small catalog of music prevents him from being the hands down undisputed GOAT. If GnR had released 4-5 more albums and Axl's live performances had remained at an A level during his career (you have to admit, he hasn't always sounded great life in his career) then he had the potential to be the greatest of all time.

That's nothing to cry about.  There aren't that many guys you can even put into the conversation. It's a pretty elite list to be on.

Axl is my favorite rock singer of all time. But is he the best of all time? Probably not. And that's OK. As long as he is your favorite - that's should be all that matters to you. But sounding good in 2016 and filling in for a few concerns for another band doesn't erase the last 20 years.

You know what's funny? Go ask my friends, family, coworkers or neighbors about me and they will tell you I'm the biggest GnR amd Axl fan they know. The only place people don't think that is on this GnR FAN forum, and mainly the people who worship Axl or think he is a God who does nothing wrong.

    But anyway.

    Axl is my favorite.

Axl is one of the greatest.

Is he the greatest? Could have been. But probably didn't live up to that. Still had a small window to capture that imaginary title. But as of now, while not the GOAT (which isn't a real thing) he certainly belongs in the conversation.

A safe ranking might be top 5 hard rock singers, top 10 rock singers and top 50 overall singers.

But it's perfectly OK if he is number one on your list.

I don't agree that the Jackyll singer or Jason McMaster, cover band singers etc. could have done the job as handily as Axl.   Yes, there are a lot of great singers out there who can sing the songs. There are not a lot of great front men who can play to large stadiums in a beloved band. Angus knew that, that's why he didn't pick any of those singers despite the fact that he would have to pay Axl so much more and gamble with Axl's tarnished reputation.

okay so i don't know if this is worth noting, but in a new Todd Kerns interview, he mentions that he is working on doing things with his reunited band Age of Electric, and plans on having a record out between now (2016) and 2017... (http://www.rocktoday.co.uk/

in blogs and interviews when all this GNR stuff was taking off, Todd mentioned that SMKC were going to record at the end of 2016...But now, i dont know if thats the case if he is continuing with Age of Electric. Looks like GNR is extending into 2017..

Todd also talks about his solo album, what hes learned from Slash and Myles, Singing Songs with Slashs band, and his different commitments.

I used to see Todd play in tiny bars in Canada in the early nineties. I can't believe he wound up connecting with Slash. Impressive really.

  5. I can appreciate Axl's work on CD, I'll always listen to anything with his vocals on it, I was just never into any of the nu-GNR bandmembers.  In fact, I quite disliked Ashba, Bumblefoot, Finck.

Obviously Axl has been dealing with a lot of issues over the years, but he never seemed to have confidence with this version of GnR or himself.  Which was a self-fulfilling prophecy because some of those live performances were pretty bad.

  6. Yes, I remember this interview, it was the guy from Faith No More.  But the article, was really typical of the time.  Faith No More and the grunge bands at the time, really bashed the decadence of GNR all the time.  There was this real kind of indie disease at the time, where these bands constantly made statements against being popular or successful, and that everyone else was ignorant.   I mean a lot of them would tour with Axl, but ridicule him at the same time.

I'm a feminist, but I still found their comments to be kind of elitist and judgemental.  And the media at the time (especially SPIN magazine) really encouraged it.

that's exactly the same impression I've got judging from her behaviour,I think she has some type of mental issues

Well, quite frankly so does Axl.  We don't know their feelings for each other.  Maybe with time and distance, Erin has forgiven him and likes to remember the good parts of their relationship.  Maybe Axl has apologized to her, we don't know.

I doubt they will ever be in a relationship again, but nothing wrong with making amends.

These guys just don't waste any time. They are seriously good and fast with social media.

They were also nice enough to not expose Uncle Axl on what is probably his weakest song.

I don't mind how Axl does TnT, I think he's gotten better at it, it's a pretty good Bon imitation.  Although, I do think it's not one of his "favorite" songs to sing.

Hmm, hate to even think it, but it would sound as though our worst fears are being realised i.e. All out of his chair equals a worse vocal performance :-/

Hmmm....not sure where you are getting that from.

  10. As far as Slash goes, I don't think he's doing it solely for the money, although that is part of it obviously.  I think he's wanted to reunite with Axl for a long time, but there has been a long nasty history there, so I don't think he can be "carefree" about it after only a handful of shows.  Plus he is sober, so I think just his whole demeanor on stage is different than the old days.

And let's face it, Axl is still calling the majority of the shots here.  Team Brazil is surrounding him all the time, so how much of a personal relationship do Slash, Duff and Axl have at this point?  The summer should be interesting.

Geez. Axl is still Axl. It's still his bands. He will insist on certain things going his way and certain members being of his choice. So really, there is no reason for anyone to feel betrayed by Duff and Slash. Axl is not taking this lying down. And when he insists on some of his people to be part of the regrouping, than that's the way it is going to go. And why should Slash and Duff refuse to be in GNR again, just because the replacement drummer of their liking is being denied?? Doesn't make sense.

Do you think Slash and Duff are really that fond of Sorum?  I know they have a history together with VR, but I can see it being a situation where they were "sorry Matt, we tried", but they didn't really try that hard.  lol

Myself, I never really cared for Sorum.  He just seemed like a guy that got really lucky.

Jagger's setlist pretty much ignores everything after the 1971 Hot Rocks compilation. Nothing Aerosmith has done since 1980 is worth remembering. Big discographies with mostly filler for the last 35 years. Axl doesn't need a bigger discography. He would have been better off if he just disappeared forever in 1995. Way too many embarrassing moments from 2002 to now.

I kinda disagree with that.  I think that with stars that reach the apex of fame that Axl achieved in his career do have to pay the reaper by going through a period of being a "has-been" or ridiculed.  Of course, maybe he helped that along sometimes, lol.  But real stars have that perspective of having the world at your feet....then not, but you endure.

I think the AC/DC shows have been phenomenal because they have reminded the media and public that Axl is more than his tarnished image...he is really talented!  I can't think of anyone that could have stepped into this role like he did.  Yes, there are other very talented singers out there that could sing the material, but I don't think any of them could have pulled it off as a whole package like he did.

Despite everything, I think the power of Axl's charisma will be his legacy.

I just can't even deal with Izzy :facepalm:  The guy's pratically been missing since 1991 and was nowhere to be found for decades and now he suddenly even has his own Twitter account.

And he uses it to be all ~mysterious~ and to post lots of crap full of hidden messages. Instead of you know, saying anything actually relevant or clearing a few things up...

    I can't even decide what's worse:

    - Izzy's new passive-aggressive, conspiracy-fueling mystery posting or

    - Slash's perpetual 13-year old boy state of mind which leads to an endless spam of naked women, skeletons, zombies and reptiles in various combiantions thereof or

    - Axl's social media absence (because calling it a 'social media presence' would be lying), only interrupted by sporadic rants about giraffes, obscure world political happenings and food

Social media sure gives us deeper insights into many people's psyches than anyone ever probably wanted to have, but I find it pretty hilarious

(And once again, it seems like Duff is the only sane one in the bunch ;))

lol, I totally agree.  I like your avatar too, I haven't seen that picture in a long time.  It was one of the stupidest "Metal Edge" photo shoots that GnR ever did!  lol

I agree that the GNR stuff is way more complicated. People are going to ask him all kinds of tricky questions about his relationship with Slash and how they suddenly solved all the problems. Why he was so angry at Slash in the first place. Why Izzy and Steven aren't there etc...

But the silence in the GNR camp might also have something to do with these AC/DC shows. Perhaps they thought that it's wiser to start the bigger promotion after these AC/DC shows. I guess it would have been pretty weird to start building hype and then get suddenly interrupted by these AC/DC shows and then you have to start building hype all over again. Perhaps it was a better idea to stay mysterious until these AC/DC shows are done, and then start doing GNR interviews.

Besides Axl couldn't really have done any interviews before Coachella anyway, because everybody would have been asking him about AC/DC and he couldn't have been able to talk about it before it was officially revealed.

I agree, there are a lot more questions in a gnr interview that wouldn't be easy to deal with.  Maybe they will once they have some more dates under their belt and Axl keeps up his good behavior.  Here's hoping!

What’s the latest with Phil [Rudd, former drummer who was arrested for threatening to kill a former employee last year]?
Angus: “Phil I haven’t heard from. He’s been very quiet of late.”
Axl: “I’ve talked to him about these other singers, though!”

lmao, I can't believe he said that.  Only Axl.

Poppycock. If this was the case, why has DC possessed two of the greatest singers in rock n' roll history to deliver? 'DC songs are all high-register frantic rock' rollers which require a high rock n' roll voice; they also require somebody who can sing the blues and to sing the blues with any passion, for a white man, and get away with it, is about the most difficult feat of singing in popular music!

DC's vocals are incredibly difficult! ''Down Payment Blues', 'Sin City', 'Hell's Bells', ''I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell, I'm gonna get you, Satan get you'' - you have to have the correct raw, highness, blues, soul and sleaze.

If you were looking for the best rock n' roll voice in the history of rock n' roll, who does not happen to be Little Richard, you could do much worse than choose Bon or Brian. To do what they did vocally was phenomenal.

I agree that Bon Scott was phenomenal.  A great singer and performer.  If you ask most people who their favorite acdc singer is, it will be him.

Brian did something incredible by stepping into his shoes and has been an integral part of the acdc machine since then.  That being said, how many Favorite Singer or Top Vocalist lists is he on?  Not many.  Not trying to minimize his contributions, but he's not everyone's cup of tea, I'll put it that way.

  17. I think Axl sounds great.  Hells Bells is my least favorite ACDC song though.  I wish we would get some If you Want Blood or High Voltage.

But seriously, these past few years I thought Axl's voice was finished.  So relieved it's not, and that he is clear eyed and practicing with heart and soul.  Good for him.
