  1. Ok, I've been to six shows, two on every CD tour.

    Each had their special moments:

02 in London, crazy show, awesome crowd, crazy guy gets up into the rafters running around, band was really energetic that night.

06 in Ottawa, you could tell the band was a little tighter, and Axl's voice was better.

10 in Toronto, one of the best Toronto crowds I've seen in years (Toronto is known for lame crowds), miles past what Toronto 02 and Toronto 06 had as far as energy. Axl sounds great, DJ has stage presence far beyond what Bucket did and a fair bit past Finck, the band sounds tighter than ever - I don't cringe at parts of November Rain anymore, for example (the solos in that were always hit and miss live). GN'R are playing tongs of new material, people have lighters out for This I Love, we get to hear Catcher in the Rye...

Toronto 2010 was probably the best setlist I've seen this band do (or Hamilton, which got TWAT instead of Catcher). I wish the crowd had been 2002 London style crazy, but it wasn't bad.

Overall - this is definitely the best tour yet. It's a huge thank you to the fans. I mean look at the dates - 13 shows in Canada, 5 in Brazil, a bunch of countries they've never played in... this is an AWESOME start. Europe in the summer and hopefully North Amercia in the fall, Australia/New Zealand at some point, and I really hope they get to do South Africa at some point also.

After that? Second leg? They could tour the fuck out of Japan - hit the capital of the other islands since they've really only played Honshu. Matsuyama, Sapporo, Fukuoka (the other three capitals), then throw in another Tokyo gig, another Osaka, another Chiba (sure it's right outside Tokyo but they've done it before), and some others - Nagoya, Sendai, Kanazawa, Hakodate (next largest city in Hokkaido), Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. With trains being awsome there you get a lot of fans from surrounding cities, and you cover it like you covered Canada - only it has a way higher population (over 120 million compared to our 30 million) who LOVE concerts. Oh and at the end fly down to Okinawa and do a show that'll get lots of army grunts ;)

  2. Heard I.R.S. when it was first leaked - remember it actually charted.

Then with the official release - Chinese Democracy was played on 97.7, Q107, Y108, and even 102.1 here in the Toronto/GTA/Southern Ontario area. 102.1 used to bash GN'R all the time also so that was hilarious. You could tell the DJ's were struggling with it though and came up with a "I don't hate it" statement at one point. At least one or two stations played all the tracks when it first came out. Then it was just the title track.

Better got significantly less airplay although 97.7 had both Chinese Democracy and Better on their Top 9 at 9 at the same time.

Since those two, only Street of Dreams has had any play, on Y108 basically - they were promoting the Hamilton show on the Canadian tour. Heard it on another station or two at one point.

I pick up 103.3 The Edge in Buffalo here and I've never heard anything there, just old stuff. The other stations are back to playing old stuff as well. Street of Dreams has popped up once or twice since the tour and that's about it.

They really should have pushed There Was A Time at some point...

  3. So did they not sell close to enough tickets so they downsized it?

This wouldn't work unless they sold about 60% or less of the tickets available for a 65,000 seat place.

Or change stage configuration, etc. Might push it back or open seats to the side, who knows.

Questions about River Plate came up as soon as the show was announced.

As for Chile, given what happened there, it's not a surprise. Sad but they have more important issues than a rock concert.

  4. I'm jealous. I get a little annoyed with Axl & Co sometimes for not touring the US, but it's obvious the fans in South America so much more passionate, energetic, and loyal. They deserve the treatment,.

In their defense, the band toured the U.S. in 02 and 06, South America didn't get shows then... give it time.

  5. I wonder where the Argentinean show will be. Roxy maybe?

    It's bigger than 150 though...

There will not be a Argentina show.

Which is not a no to secret shows in Brazil.

So technically - No secret show in Argentina, and there isn't three secret shows, but there could be two, or five, or fifty shows outside of Argentina. :rofl-lol:

Yeah I'm just fucking around, but your words really are going to be picked apart in this thread.

  6. I noticed over the past few team Canada mens hockey games, they came to the ice with welcome to the jungle as their intro....doesn't have much to do with anything, just found it pretty sweet...too bad USA didn't use it...hahahahah

    go Canada go!

    Ok here's a little thought:

I know GN'R probably feel burned by the whole MLB thing... but they should seriously consider doing something with the NHL. There was no All-Star game this year, due to the Olympics, but next year... they do have bands play. No, it's not the superbowl, but - GN'R songs are played in almost EVERY NHL GAME!!!

Jungle, Live and Let Die, Sweet Child O' Mine, Paradise City... I'm sure there's a few more but those four are heard frequently. I know a lot of sports do Jungle as a rally song but really, the NHL more than any league has those songs playing in their arenas.

Just a random thought. Would be pretty cool way to get some more exposure, albeit the NHL audience isn't huge but there's bound to be a lot of fans of both.

  7. Yeah, that was my bad. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. As you're here Fernando, can you tell us if this is true?

I don't see your point of asking that. Actually I don't get why the whole buzz in the forums and on Rolling Stone Brazil about GnR's rider. That's an absolutely normal list, if true, and only one who's got nothing to talk about will pick that as a subject. Ridiculous. Must have been a boring day at RS Brazil.

Personally, I'd ask for a bowl of M&Ms with all the Green M&Ms removed.

Then a separate bowl of M&Ms with ONLY green M&Ms, but they can't be the same M&Ms from the first batch! Oh and they have to be hand sorted by nubile young vixens from whatever the current tour stop is. B)

But yeah that list doesn't sound all that shocking even though I could only read half of it. Unless something I couldn't make out says "sacrifice a virgin" I don't see what the deal is...

  8. 5. Shackler's Revenge (GNR) - this was the first song from 'Chinese Democracy' to be released, as part of the 'Rock Band 2' video game in Sept. 2008. It was the first release of recorded GNR music that I was part of. On a personal level, it felt like going from engaged to married. Songs are like children to me - it felt like a first child being born and the start of a family.

    Source

You know what's really sad? Cool little tidbit like that, no replies. Idiots fighting about ticketmaster and people who have never seen a show on the tour yet harping about things - tons.

I can definitely understand how Ron feels on that one. Finally seeing something come out... must have been like waiting for the floodgates to open.

  9. Montreal, Quebec City, and Winnipeg reported numbers earlier in February, GNR was #2 that week I believe.

You still have London, Toronto, Hamilton, and Ottawa left to report.

5000 - 6000 tickets in Hamilton and London

    Big show in Toronto

    Ottawa I dunno

Not sure if Billboard Hot Tours counts South America...

  10. I didn't read any of your 4/5 posts on this page but I can assume they were along the lines of:

    Axl is a dick

    Beta is a dick

    02 band was better

This whole situation is a joke

Everyone on here lacks common sense but me

Nah a few others have common sense, but most people on here cannot accept the truth.

You need to take off your Axl Rose colored glasses.

You claim im nuts blah blah blah, but the funny thing is you make the comments you make about Axl off these boards, and you will get laughed at.

Everyone knows Axl is crazy, a dickhead to most people, does not care about his fans, and his voice is pretty much gone (its not even close to what it was in the 90s let alone 80s like some of you nut jobs believe) , the only people who cannot accept that are a few hundred people on these boards.

Have you been to a show this year?

His voice is definitely at the best it has been since the 90s. The differences between 02, 06, and this year were very noticeable - and I was actually at shows, not talking out of my ass.

Also, Axl has generally been nice to almost anyone he's met fan-wise from what I've read. Never met him myself, so I can't comment beyond that. I'm betting you haven't met him, so perhaps you shouldn't be commenting either. The fact that he rants on the net doesn't make him an asshole. If that was the benchmark, the entire net would be guilty of it.

Just listen to the monitor mix and you will see this voice is shot.

Its getting better but its no where close to being as good as 92 (take the paris show for example). Anyone who claims differently is delusional.

He has no power left in his voice and its very thin sounding.

Plus he has to use backing tracks now, he never did back in the 80s or 90s.

He sounds decent yes, but his voice is 50% of what it once was. I am not saying he sounds like shit, because he doesnt. I am just saying he is not as good as he was in the 80s and 90s like people are claiming on this board.

As for him being nice to people he meets, I am not talking about that.

I am talking about the people he beats up because they have a camera, or he always seems to get in fights at airports, or picking fights with other bands lead singers, stuff like that.

He also disrespects fans for going on so late, no showing gigs and walking off mid set for stupid reasons..

Yes the going on late has been going on since the 90s but that doesnt make it right. Sure gnr fans have accepted it, but again its disrespectful to make fans wait til past 11pm to see him go on stage when the doors open at 6 or 7.

So how's this tape work when he changes vocals or sings the wrong verse?

I guess this is the new smart-tape technology we keep hearing about

Nor do I need to use the monitor mix - I've heard parts of it and its fine. If there's weak spots, that's fine too. Of the two shows I saw, his voice was awesome in one and a bit down in the mix in the other, difference between them - the second show was night two of back-to-back shows.

Sorry but the clips we've seen on YouTube of him adlibbing or fucking up kill the tape story. They might have something done for the backing stuff in Sorry since Bach is supposed to sing it, but whatever. You're nitpicking. I watched Ron do backup vocals live. He's mentioned it in interviews.

When's the last time he walked off mid set for a stupid reason? When's the last time he picked a fight with a lead singer? I guess you're talking about Vince Neil - that was what, 20 years ago?

6 or 7? See, as a person who went to an actual show (2 this year), well the ticket said 8PM. The band was onstage at 10:30 in one case, and just before 11:30 in the other. The latter being Toronto which I think has been covered to death. There were two opening acts. Given opening act run time, set changes, I don't think a 10:30 start is unreasonable.

If you do, stay home and watch the kids - it's time to stop being a rock fan.

But stop dragging up old news.

  11. His voice is definitely at the best it has been since the 90s. The differences between 02, 06, and this year were very noticeable - and I was actually at shows, not talking out of my ass.

2006/07 was the last time he was 100% live.

On this tour he is using playback for the first time, a huge letdown no matter how great his voice might be.

not really hes not lipsynching or anything like that

he is using playback for most of the backing tracks - why not just make suitable live arrangements for the material or have one of the other seven guys in the band do the backing vocals?

axl rose with tape in the background is lame. i go to a concert, i want a LIVE experience and no fucking tapes in the mix.

You know, you've been spreading this shit on the board since you got here. I've been to two lives shows. He's singing live. The guys in the band DO do backing vocals. Ron does some. Tommy does some. I *watched* that at two shows - how many have you been to?

The only thing I've seen him use is the hold effect on his scream (brief echo thing) in Live and Let Die which he's always had, and I've heard there's parts done on Sorry because it's a Duet and Bach isn't there to sing it live. Didn't really notice it however.

You can tell it's live because he makes the odd mistake, changes lyrics, occasionally sings the wrong verse.

Drop the rumor creating already. Did you miss the clip of Catcher where he sang the entire wrong verse? Where was the backing tape??? Oh, right, you're full of shit :)

  12. People who are talking about GNR not being "allowed" to tour with Ticketmaster behind them need to come back to reality. If Tickemaster believes they can make money off a GNR tour in the US then it will happen and that's the end of the story. Azoff is a music manager and knows the score, he has been fired before and will be fired again. As the CEO of a massive publicly traded corporation, he's not going to fuck around and try to ban GNR from touring the US. In a position like that you don't just get to do whatever you feel like, you have to answer to the board and if they felt he was depriving the company of income because of some personal BS manifested in the form of outright blackballing an act that could make Ticketmaster a lot of money, he would get removed from his position

You think Axls new new new gnr can make TM money when they were playing to half filled to 3/4 filled arena's last time around? This is what two years later?

And did you even read my post? People love to talk shit out of context like JungleCat and pilferk. I said hopefully Axl did not burn any bridges with Azoff or he could make it difficult for Axl to tour in the US through TM.

I said he probably didnt so it wont even matter.

I am not sure how any of that is not true. I even said Axl probably did not burn any bridges and that TM talk even died down until JungleCat and pilferk brought it up again and flew off the handle.

You realize ticketmaster makes money regardless of sellouts, right? As does LiveNation (promoter). As long as the shows are profitable, and they have been.

Weezer played here in December to HALF the crowd GN'R pulled in at the ACC in Toronto.

So yes, "Axl's new new new gnr" *can* and will make TicketMaster money. Look at the Billboard Hot Tours listing. They made more money, per show, then Motley Crue, who has some insane deal with LiveNation currently.

  14. More Bullshit Speculation and lies, she has been photoed with Dan McMillan recently, why do people insist on spreading refuse around the net? It is shit like this that turns up on TMZ and Sludge as "the truth".

    Meds? More crapola,unconfirmed,unknown shit.

Can't everyone be glad "It is what it is",enjoy the times, the concerts, the tweets, without overanalyzing, posting false assumptions, and Digging up negative nonsense to drag everyone's good spirits down? thought this trend was over.

Everything is looking up- I'm staying positive, it's a great time to be a GNR fan !!

unless you are a obsessive deranged cupcake, with an agenda.

    The gigs have been great, the tweets are an added bonus;

    It's all good!!

    +1

Axl is bipolar FACT, read your gnr history, he is manic depressive.

Axl got hair plugs FACT, didnt he even admit it?

MEDS, is he on them, who knows, he could be to help with the bipolar, but nothing is wrong with that.

Stop denying what is already widely known as the truth.

Just because you dont want to believe it doesnt mean its not true

    A) Those are questionable facts, unless you've seen a diagnosis, know what he's taking/isn't taking, or saw him get work done. I don't recall him ever confirming any work being done.

    B) Who the fuck cares.

The band is touring, the CD is out. I'd say that's the monkey off Axl's back right there. He's got a group of guys he likes playing with. Look at him on stage - he's having fun again. He's playful and joking around and partying and doing what he wants.

Why the fuck do people need to analyze everything to death? Give the guy his privacy, enjoy the shows, and otherwise, live YOUR lives.

  15. If we want to make this the usual "songs I'd like to hear live" thread...

    Civil War

    Estranged

    Yesterdays

    Perfect Crime

    Locamotive

In six shows I've heard all but two tracks from CD, pretty much all of AFD, so those would be cool. But whatever - I'm not that picky and the setlists in Toronto/Hamilton were awesome!

(Don't Cry would be on there, but they have played it live - in 07).

Throw Double Talkin' Jive in there. I'd love to hear that beast again.

I was pondering that one... I love the bassline on it. Would still prefer the others.

Oh and Ain't It Fun is another one.

You know, if the band ever gets an official site they have full control of/that gets updated often, they should run a poll. Pick 4 or 5 songs the new lineup hasn't done live (let the band pick just so they have some control since they likely have reasons for not playing some stuff), have the fans vote on one, and do it. Gotta figure the online fans would go apeshit for that.
