Lindy
I think Jazz is a good album. Actually better than A Night at the Opera, and people always talk about that one...

Gash
I've got Night at the Opera and I really don't like it. Am I right in giving up on liking this band? Or do they have some sort of less overblown, more gritty stuff that I might find interesting?
Black Monk Time
Am I right in giving up on liking this band?Yep. "Under Pressure," the song they did with David Bowie, is pretty good, though.

bluesy
Maybe it's 'cause they've been tainted so much by overexposure and associations with cheesburgers and mojo stimulators, but I find that Queen's best songs aren't their hits. Their catalogue consists of so much better and more ambitious work.

Or do they have some sort of less overblown, more gritty stuff that I might find interesting? The thing is with Queen, that you got to force yourself to listen to it for a bit. I did, and now I absolutely love all their material. They've done so many different styles and each album is different from the next. Their 80's album are more simple rock/pop than the 70's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWTh8Op-wmE- I Want It All from The Miracle, 1989.A good thing to start is watching their live shows. Live At Wembley for example. Their live stuff is superior to the studio, way more gritty and rockier. Also, check out the new Queen+Paul Rodgers album The Cosmos Rocks, which is more simple and straight-ahead rock/blues. Hope that helped.-DW

Ode to Axl
Get the following:-Queen II-Sheer Heart Attack-A Night at the Opera-A Day at the Races-The GameThose are the top 5 albums, but the best Queen song is on News of the World - namely, "It's Late". Or at least IMO that is.

pain cake
My suggestion for anyone trying to get into Queen is not to get their greatest hits or any compilations. They were musically the most talented band ever, their entire catalogue is diverse and virtuose, not to mention they all wrote amazing lyrics (except for maybe Roger Taylor, but who can resist I'M IN LOVE WITH MY CAAARRRR )Sheer Heart AttackA Night at the OperaNews of the WorldThat's my top 3, the hits are great, but once you realize what an imaginative and talented band they were, you realize they were the most consistent band in the 1970's, producing the greatest string of untouchable albums from Queen-The Game. As I said the hits are great, but this band is all about the gems. Edited December 14, 2008 by pain cake

dalsh327
I'll just put favorite songs up because I like all the albums, except Made in Heaven, but that still has good stuff, mostly going with the lesser known stuff, I think all of this is live, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fad25vmn4U...feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymRz9BAZOcY...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQpZ7ntIn7Y...feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOpyhGH6Cy8...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h_HK_XZnrg...feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo86xAOtkAs...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq1EsGUSAKM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm2pgKJks30...feature=related
