Dead Flower
I'm tryin' to put together a cool mix cd. Lookin' for mellow songs by dudes that have proper cigarette voices.Examples of what I'm after...One Hundred Days - Mark LaneganAre You The One I've Been Waiting For - Nick CaveIdiot Prayer - Nick CaveShore Leave - Tom WaitsDowntown Train - Tom WaitsAll Misery Flowers - Gutter TwinsI'm thinking some Leonard Cohen would be good, but I know nothing of his work. Suggestions would be welcome.

KBear
Here are my favourite Cohen songs. Don't know if they are what you're really looking for though. Still going through his catalog, so there may be better choices than these. But in any case they are pretty damn incredible songs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVt6vhRAu3k...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OETwbVBPI1UWaits is on my list. Recommend me a good album of his to check out first. I don't know any of his songs.I don't think he has the voice you want but what about Billy Joel? He has so many songs that evoke a smoke filled bar. Edited July 31, 2009 by KBear
Dead Flower
Reported for suggesting Billy Joel.Nah, I kid because I love. It's hard to suggest a Tom Waits album. I'd probably start with Closing Time, but all his later albums are quite different to that one.
KBear
I sensed that coming. Maybe this is more like it: That Lanegan song you mentioned is great.

Snake Eyes
- I'm Your ManI like this song. Cheers. If you want to do yourself a big favor just get Leonard Cohen's 2009 live album Live In London, recorded during his 2008 performence at the O2 Arena. Give that a spin. You'll absolutely love this. That is a brilliant recommendation, one of my favourite live records released this year.
