Schwarzgold
Why is David Hasselhoff huge in Germany? Who knows? Different countries like different thingsHe isn't. He had this one hit 20 years ago and even them half of the people thouhgt of him an desperate excuse for a musician. He never sold a significant number of albums or singles since then, never filled stadiums or arenas. He's considered a funny one-hit wonder and a bad actor in a bad series, nothing more. The more intersting thing is - where does this idea in the USA come from THAT we like him? AxlisOld
The reason they will, is that a voice is often a make or break factor for people. Example: Journey is still playing to large crowds because they found a Steve Perry sound-alike. Paul Rogers joining Queen: Paul is great, and if he toured with bands that he's been with in the past I'd see it, but ya know what, Paul? You're not Freddie, so fuck you for singing Fat Bottomed Girls and We Will Rock You. If AC/DC didn't write songs that I liked after Bon died, I'd feel the same about Brian Johnson. Fortunately they did, and I'll tolerate Brian singing Dirty Deeds. I'm willing to bet a lot of people think this way. God of Thunder
Yes they can. Rock is alive in South America, and well its been a while since Guns were there, so if promo and organization don`t fuck up they should be able to draw the crowds... HubbaBubba
To me GnR (minus Slash, Izzy, Duff) can sell out all US arenas. But there are certain things that have to happen otherwise they'll be lucky to get 50% capacity. I don't think it will happen but whatever. Axl needs to become likable again. Or at least socially accepted so that people who would love to see GnR but are secretly embarrassed to admit they love GnR can feel comfortable doing so. Here is what I would advise:1. He needs to come out and apologize for how he hurt the women in his life. He needs to be deeply sorry and discuss in a non-angry way how is miserable his childhood was and how he made mistakes. He should discuss that he left the big stage because of his personal demons and how he couldn't perform knowing what he did. Man up and the American public will always forgive. 2. Admit his share of the responsibility for breaking up Guns without putting any blame on Slash. Then he needs to loop in how the original Guns was a toxic environment and he is emotionally healthier now. Leave it at that. Make Slash look petty. Offer friendship but no reunion.3. He needs to promote himself again. That will be hard but there are ways to do it. A lot of it can be done in late-night by going on a forgiveness tour for points #1 and #2. the band can perform and must kick butt. Going on Howard Stern and doing an acoustic set would be good. Other than that, local radio, fan promos, etc. Things like that. He needs to get local DJ's who are idiots but can have sway to play his music and promote him again. Super Bowl and Grammy performances are out for now because GnR doesn't have the pull to get those gigs.4. He needs a sponsor. Meaning it would be great if Axl could go out there and perform with a guy like Bono a few shows. Someone still in the business who will stand up publicly and state what we know - this guy rocks and is one of the greatest performers of our time. Are you foolish letting your time pass without getting to see him.5. Get out there and take part in society. hook up with a charitable organization and donate band time and performances to it. Loop it into a college environment and off you go. There is no better one than the "green" movement. Kids love that stuff and al of a sudden you are cool again.Once Axl's reputation is ressurected than he introduces the band and the music. Explaining the songs in a Storyteller environment would be awesome. Chinese Democracy is about the Dhali Lama, Shacklers Revenge about the senselessness of the Columbine killings, Better / Street of Dreams about heartbreak, Catcher in the Rye about Lennon. People eat that stuff up.Then he needs to get accepted by the music community as a whole. This is where "new" GnR plays a charitable event like LiveAid, or and event like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and kick butt doing it.That's all before normal promotion is done. It's a lot but it's not. At its core it is being a decent human being, asking for understanding, and forgiveness, and doing things that help others. His talent will drive the rest and quite frankly I think it will go a long way to making him a happier person.Interesting post. Alot of what you say here would probably go some way to getting people enthused by GnR again. But Axl would need to be a different person from the man we know to get it done. Much of that promo stuff consists of drudgery and repetition - he probably feels like he's done with all of that (not that he had alot of time for it in the first place).I remember when I was a kid watching some UK pop TV show 'special' on GnR. It was pitiful - they took a small crew with some squeaky-clean presenter to document the band setting up for an Athens show on the Illusions tour, and literally no-one would talk to them. There was a segment with a roadie reluctantly 'taking them through the layout' of his Illusions tour t-shirt ("er...album pic on front, dates on back" - he was as bemused as the rest of us), and a very brief interview with Dizzy (who in retrospect was clearly hung over and in a foul mood). Even at 13 years old, I remember thinking this was a waste of time, and painful to watch. Then, right at the end, they got a break - a 'last-minute, rescheduled interview with Slash'. Guy got them to his hotel, gave half a dozen intelligent answers to the most fucking ordinary questions imaginable, and the segment was saved. The point is, it was so blindingly obvious that GnR were giving this two-bit show nothing at all, that in the end Slash manned up, most likely out of pity (and because, say what you like, he was a soldier when it came to doing Guns publicity).Point is, back then the business of promoting the band was shared. Now, it can't be, as Axl is the only defining member in the eyes of the world.Incidentally, the only sniff of Axl in the whole segment was a mention in text at the bottom of the screen that 'the elusive Axl travelled to the gig separately, by helicopter'. If memory serves, I don't think they were even given permission to film the chopper! Edited January 9, 2010 by HubbaBubba

Tali
So they are going to play 2 show at the River Plate? :S I know there are loved over there, but I think that's way to big.I was kind of wondering that, too...i'm from down here (argentina), and altough I know we are tons of people really excited about the march concerts, I also think that they played 2 river plate FULL concerts each time they played here, 92 and 93, even more 93 being the last UYI tour and all, and Guns was at the peak of fame back then, so the four times 70,000 places sold out made sense. I'm not sure about this time...of course, I would love that they played twice, though Edited January 10, 2010 by Tali

Hatchepsut
Show in Interlagos, but if the T4F make a good organization with the town hall. On 15 March 2009 was held on this place the Iron Maden Show. It was a Sunday. Was scheduled to start at 8 Pm.I was in this show. Organizer: Mondo Entertainment Attendance: 60,000 The problems occurred in the Iron Show Maden can be avoided if: Open more than one entrance gate to the fans and with more advance of show time. The place where the public gets is a lawn, but the ground is uneven, is not covered with wood, when rain turns the mud, but can be covered with rubber. This has been done there on other shows and solved the problem. But the rubber needs to be placed with the dry ground. The sun is very hot and dry in the morning the ground, so this service can be made in advance. Must use a better material to separate the special area (vip) and have more security. When the show ends, all exits must be open, because there are several gates behind, and well marked and provide more lighting at the entrance and exit. Because the place is very large and had very little light in all directions. The organizer must apply more security and ambulances to the city hall.Despite all the problems, the Iron Maden was fantastic. It was an unforgettable show. The sound was very good. I hope they come back soon. It was a Woodstock, but the fault of the company Mondo Entertainment and City Hall who bet that fans of rock would not cause problems because the same day was a great football game and sent safely to the game and left 60,000 fans alone. The fans did not cause problems, but the crowd fell into a trap and had many losses and the worst did not happen, because everyone remained calm to leave that place. Everything can be done. If the organizer is responsible, because knows the place and the weather and what to expect. Therefore, they should take the necessary steps. rock2 Edited January 11, 2010 by Hatchepsut

fellowmetalfan
It is quite apparent why they can sell out stadiums outside the US, whereas it is not that shiny within their home soil....please just compare the number of US shows with the non-US shows, it will not show the same difference as population in those areas....so a non-US fan has far less chance seeing them live, He/She will grap every opportunity to do so....
