I know nothing about african music and was wondering if anyone could give me any recommendations! I'm interested in listening exotic rhythms and harmonies.

Habib Koite's a pretty spectacular West African guitarist:

I used to be in a choir that did a lot of South African vocal stuff and as a result I have a huge soft spot for these guys, think they represent the best of South Africa, a real mix of people celebrating their culture, and they sound fantastic together.
