To know the past, is to know the future

Let's look at another successful duo. Let's go back to 1996, when the Lakers acquired Shaquille O'neal through free agency. Emerging star Kobe Bryant was just drafted out of high school, and the two would win 3 championships together. After two failed seasons after their three-peat, Shaq was traded to the Miami Heat, where, two years later, he would win another NBA championship, with Dwyane Wade. The next few years weren't as kind to The Lakers, but eventually, after acquiring another talented big man, they would win back to back titles in 2009 and 2010. Each player was very successful throughout their career, but there is no doubt that their best years were the ones they spent together. Once they were separated, they continued to be among the leagues best players.

Drawing similarities to Axl and Slash is very easy. They spent the beginning of their careers together (ok Shaq played for the Magic for a few years but whatever) and had HUGE success together. When they parted ways, they each continued to play at very high levels, each winning championships, just not as consistently as they did when they were together.

It is rumored that Shaq will be returning to the NBA next season to play for the Lakers for the veterans minimum contract, just to get a few more rings with his long lost soulmate Kobe.

And, to sum it all up, and show just how similar they really are....

I rest my case.

tHIS DOESNT MAKE MUCH SENSE

But this does:

VAN HALEN - hated each other - got back together

SIMON AND GARFUNKEL - hated each other - got back together

THE EAGLES - hated each other - got back together

Black Sabbath - Not sure if hate was the word, but it took a long time, and nobody thought it would ever happen...

Harry enfield and Paul whitehouse ... :)

can anybody think of any more famous band break ups and reunions???

I think the van halen thing gives us all hope. How long did it take them??? How long can we expect to wait???

Pink Floyd - sued each other, reunited for Live 8 and Waters/Gilmour showed up at each other's shows.

CCR - accepted the award, Fogerty plays with the RRHOF house band, JF has talked about getting back together with them last year.

There's still a VH feud, but now it's with Hagar, not Dave

Beatles - fell apart, didn't feel like bringing it back together. Even if John lived, odds are George would have had no interest in it.

Talking Heads - David Byrne enjoys the solo career, but they've gotten together for the Rock Hall and for a Stop Making Sense screening for the DVD release.

Deep Purple - Ritchie Blackmore would rather play the Ren Faire circuit than play "Smoke On The Water". The band carries on with Steve Morse and doing just fine.

Simon and Garfunkel didn't hate each other. They had been together since 1955, took a few years apart, then in the mid 60s, made it huge. Garfunkel wanted to act, Simon wanted to sing more of his own songs. They reunited in '82, tried to record, but it fell apart. The next time would be Paul Simon's NYC run in'93, and a few years back where they were chaging big money to see them together. So they pretty much reunite once a decade.

KISS - the original 4. Lasted 3 years, Gene and Paul bought out Ace and Peter the rights on the makeup, but Ace still gets residuals for the artwork.

Dokken - that goes back 20 years, and tried to do it again, but fell through.

Styx - they went on without Dennis, and still do. He said he'd rejoin them in a heartbeat.

Pantera - no need to explain that one, but AFAIK, Vinnie and Phil still don't talk.

Metallica and Mustaine - finally patched it up a few years ago, but it's one of those situations where Dave could stop being a good Christian at any moment.

Cream -Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker came into that band feuding, and Clapton did his best to keep the peace as long as possible. 2 years.

Crosby Stills Nash and Young - Cocaine is a hell of a drug, Crosby, Stills and Young had massive egos. They finally got along in 2006 and bashed Bush.

NWA - even though they're not a band, the falling out was pretty big. Ice Cube & Dr Dre became famous in their own right, and they're both easily worth over 100 million. Each.

Beach Boys - Too long to get into, but you have all the elements of a Greek tragedy with this band, more so than the Jacksons.

The Pixies - they won't record new music, and he ended the band in 1992 by sending them a fax saying it was over.

The Clash - even though Joe and Mick eventually would work together again, they fell out and Joe tried to keep recording under The Clash, but people moved on. They were never able to do a proper reunion w/Simonon.

Pogues - the band kicked Shane out, got Joe Strummer back in. They eventually regrouped over the past few years and called it a day last year.

The Kinks - Dave Davies said "it would be like a bad remake of Night of the Living Dead". One original member's gone, but they've talked about it. Band known for fighting from day 1.

Dead Kennedys - I think how Jello feels about the band members going on as Dead Kennedys with another singer, is how Axl feels about the former members of GNR. They prob. won't get in the rock hall, but he's pretty much still bashing the guys at the spoken word shows. Biafra called them "the world's greediest karaoke band".

The Misfits - we've seen Doyle & Jerry carry on the name, and then Doyle joining Glenn at his shows doing a Misfits set. They tried to get it together 10 years ago, but supposedly Jerry and his manager made it impossible. Kind of sucks because they didn't make much money back in the day, and few got to see them play together live.

They would reunite no doubt if only they could solve their problems. But they can't cope with it on their own, there's too much misunderstanding and complete lack of communication. Someone would really have to help them with it but the people closest to them don't seem to care unfortunately.

The old lineup will never EVER get back together. It's time to move on, people. Read Slash's eponymous biography, read Duff's and Steven's book. It's all there, really. I mean, after reading Slash's and Duff's books, I became convinced that this reunion thing is never gonna happen. Slash, Duff and Axl have moved on, they have their own projects. It's not gonna happen. there's way too much bad blood between Axl and the rest of the original band. Move on.

?

They did 2 new Beatles songs in the 90's

They made two Lennon demos into Beatles songs to promote the anthologies and honor John.
