I think people are underestimating the effect losing Robin had on Axl

I can't believe the guy who said only a "guitar nerd" would notice when DJ fucks up lol. There's a huge difference in, say, Robin overdoing a bend in 'November Rain' because he's really into it, and DJ just flat out fucking up the SCOM intro. I think too many people are butt-hurt because they always seen Robin as the man who replaced The Top Hatted One, and it pissed em off. I'll go with feeling and emotion over technical skill any day of the week. Something else a lot of people don't mention is the amazing chemistry that Robin and Richard had. You could tell they had a genuine love and respect for one another on stage, and I would kill to hear what they could come up creatively, though I have to say, Ron and Richard have recreated that chemistry as of late with their jams, especially that brilliant pre-'Madagascar' jam. Robin rules...

Robin RAPED November Rain. There are no other words for it. There's a huge difference between hitting a bum note in SCOM cuz you're drunk off Jageer and not being able to play a solo sober.

Slash used to RAPE November rain solo also when playing live. So whats the problem. And Guys you should know that Slash hate SCOM and NR and he said that himself.

Great post, and I totally agree. That's the important difference between Robin and DJ. Robin got way into the music, and was feeling everything he was playing. Where as with DJ, any mistakes he makes is simply due to the lack of skill and ability he obtains. Edited by One.In.A.Million

I'll go with what sounds good to me and unfortunatley Robin's live performances were a lot of hit and miss and sometimes it was really, really hard to listen to his solos. Don't get me wrong I like the guy and on the album he sounds really good, but live his performances weren't that great, at least to me.

You robin fan boys are a joke. If slash ever "raped" the nr solo it was in a good way! Find a video or concert from old guns where slash sounds like shit. Seriously find one I dare you. I'm not saying dj is better overall, because honestly Idont care either way. And does dj flub a note here and there yes, but robin straight fucked solos up. Don't give me that shit about feeling, because if that's good feeling then robin is seriously lacking that as well. None of his solos from the old band would I consider good by any stretch of the imagination. I've heard bar bands play the scom solo better than robin. And his nr solos were just plain awful. Did you watch the video bruno posted? Defend that shit.

I found many fails from slash as well and ?? :D robin played them his way and I and many other people enjoy it too. But your problem is that you are stuck in 1987 - 1993 you can choose year.... btw there you go

Really that's the best you got? Slash didn't fuck up the notes, he just played it one too many times. Once the band recovered everything was fine. Robins solos were awful more than they were good. And you don't know me, I'm not stuck in 1987. I have seen 02, 06, and current line up guns and the 02 band was by far the worst. You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. Go a head think robin is the greatest guitarist since hendrix, just be able to defend that opinion cause not many are going to agree. And your example of slash playing like shit was weak.

I saw your sig and I can't get over the irony. Don't get me wrong, I think Slash is a million times better than Robin but outside of Robin, how else was the 02 lineup bad?

I never said that Robin is greatest guitarist since Hendrix I said that I enjoyerd him more than Slash and more than Ashba. Ok he was sloppy when live that is problem ?? Look at Steven Clark from DF, Brian May, Jimmy Page etc. they were all sloppy when live and ?? nothing wrong with it ...

@ axl rose fan1 don't get me wrong I like the 02 era band for the fact that they are pretty much the band responsible for cd, which i love. So they have my respect in that reguard. Also do think buckethead is an amazing guitar player, not one of my favs, but great. The problems I have with that band was their look, it was a freak show. And two it was a terrible concert. I saw them in detroit and it was a bad show plain and simple. When Isaw them in 2011, same venue, it was ten times better. And when you add the 2002 mtv awards debacle, not much going for that line up. 2001 rock in rio is a pretty good show, I will say that.

@ shackler, you are right page and others would be sloppy live. But they were playing songs they wrote, so there's nothing to compare them to. Like Isaid before when robin played cd stuff he sounds great, cause those are his songs. But when he played slashes stuff he struggled. And I think that's a fair criticism because he didn't write those songs, and trying to change iconic solos is just wrong. So to sum up, sloppyness on your own songs is ok imo, but not on others songs because it shows they can play it better. Which my main point all along is that richard, bumble, or bucket should of done most of the solos during robins time in the band, because they would have stayed true to the original. And played them cleaner.

well I dont know I like innovation and I enjoyed his way of playing ... and I think that Axl enjoyed them too if not he would not want Robin to play lead ... my opinion. And about Clark and others they were also criticised by media and fans for being sloopy live... so I dont understand fans philosophy :D
