Why the current members won't quit

Obviously, it's just a theory, but there's always talk of members threatening to quit. IMO, they have the best of both worlds by being in GN'R - touring the world, playing classic music and getting what is probably a great paycheque every month while they're still free to be creative in other bands/business projects.

It's just too good of a job to lose..... and I'm only jealous.

yeah, the other musicians in the band would have to actually make a living off their own talent and efforts rather than collecting a paycheck from playing someone else's........and axl call's slash a cancer

That's not a theory. They also seem to enjoy each others' company, and sometimes band members can't stand each other when they're off stage.

I think if GNR called it a day, some of them would put a band together, or help each other out in the studio.

It's not that they can't make money doing session work, they seem to have things to do when they're not with GNR. Also take into account some of them have families, and Axl seems to take breaks in between to give the guys time to see their families. They're not on a James Brown/P-Funk schedule of 200 plus shows a year.

Good post. Just an added comment: They already DO help each other out in the studio (like for Tommy's last record) and play in bands together (Blowout and that Richard/Frank band I can't remember the name of...).

This has been discussed numerous times.

They don't quit because without this gig, they could barely tour professionaly and have anyone pay them to make music.

I think that is a pretty ignorant statement considering how great musicians some of them are. I believe they are all qualified to live as musicians without GN'R.

This is going to sound racist but since it's been covered in Family Guy, I'm gonna say it anyways. Bumblefoot is Jewish, Jews for whatever reason love showbiz and money, he's only in it for the money. He's bitched and moaned when he was injured, he's bitched and moaned when he was healthy. No-one has held a gun to his head to play yet he still turns up and collects the paychecks.

agreed.

nobody is going to pay them what axl is paying

It depends on the gig. Tommy doing a Replacements reunion headlining a festival would pay more than he gets with GNR.

Exactly !Its a job. How many retro rockers are capable of putting together a band and produce o new music and being able to tour it with any degree of success? The current environment is for nostalgia and bands playing what was on the radio and MTV in the 80's and 90s'. Thats why this incarnation of GNR works..there is really no need to write and produce new music because the higher percentage of people turning up at the show is there to listen to AFD -UYI material. When people of this generation understand just how big GNR really was in the 90's they can see why GNR is still a going concern vs many of the strip bands that hit and now are lucky to be around at all. Crue is perhaps the only other band from the Sunset strip that can still fill an arena on its own. Over the years Ive seen many of the 80's bands playing at clubs and dive bars..Quiet Riot, Ratt, Warrent, L.A, Guns, Bullet Boys ,Dokken, Cinderella..not a huge over all demand for new material.

But I think that is where the dissapointment lies for the hardcore Axl fans.

He doesn't have to go down that same road as the Dokken and Ratt type bands.

A new Ratt record will sell 100,000 copies............a new GnR album will sell 3 million copies.

Axl can still be relevant and sell tickets and not be a complete nostalgic act. Heck, Megadeth releases a new album every two years.....Axl releases an album every 20-25 years.

It just SUCKS as a fan of the singer. Megadeth has put out 7 studio albums since Axl took over the GnR name.

AND, it has to be a little frustrating, at least creatively, for the current members to not have the opportunity to put their stamp on the GnR name.

No, Groghan. It is not up to you to decide how far back you should go when saying something accurate about Axl's productivity. To do this properly you should either look at the whole career or recent years, in either case the release frequency becomes much higher than 1/25 years. Adding in the period where the band was as good as dead is just dishonest. In fact, we don't really know what rate the band will release music in now with this stable lineup. Perhaps it will be every 8th years? We don't know.

They get:

- free musical instruments through endorsements worth close to 50thousand bucks (I know this from 2 guys who have been in the band), plus a fee for mentioning/wearing the brand in interviews/shows

- paid 15-20k per show (was the figure around 2006)

- travel around the world for free, in the best hotels for free, free transportation and food/beverages/whateveryouwant

- between 10k-15k a month salary (around 2006)

- free drugs and pussy and cock (3 guys in the current 'band' like the latter too)

- free and effortless publicity and exposure of your name that reaches tens of millions (read paycheck drones that will, for instance, buy your low quality solo album, shitty sauce or faggy swagpants just because you are in the band)

- worshipped by fans all over the world without any effort or any kind of creative input because of the band name and history

So you won't find many musicians that will decline the job of being in a GNR coverband playing jukebox hits. Money really does buy humans. Except ones that have musical and human integrity, which you won't find many in the business anyway. Axl isn't one either although he likes to pretend he is one. None of these guys are. In fact, most of them hate the music they play on stage and mock the fans of this band when the fans/media cannot hear/see it. Ashba is the only one that likes the music actually. Too bad he puts more effort into looking like a 16 year old emo boy than playing the guitar properly. He even influenced Axl to wear his preferred brand of eyeliner that is endorsing him. Hehe.
