Unfortunately these kinds of irrational, stupid, cruel and deranged behaviours happen everywhere. I witnessed how a group of gipsy girls gave a beating to a girl because there was a long line of people waiting to catch a taxi back home and the girl didn´t allow the gipsies (who arrived the last and were the last ones in the waiting line) to take her turn (she was the first one).It might sound stupid but I think that the education you receive at home is what helps build your personality and there must be something wrong because this stuff is not normal. I never had those behaviours when I was younger, sure I got into figths and all but not to the extreme people go today.
