drtydane
I have like a 3 disc best of set, and I've just been getting into them. Can anybody with some Genesis knowledge point me in the direction of the essential albums? I like both eras..
classicrawker
IMHO, everything from the Trespass up to and including "And Then There Were Three " are excellent.I am not a fan of the pop era albums starting with "Duke" but too each his own

Rdeyahlxp
Essentials from the Gabriel era are: Most of all, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. This is the definite best album they have ever done IMO. After that Selling England, Foxtrot and A Trick of the Tail. Collins era is mostly the hits on a couple of albums and the rest of that era mostly forgettable filler.

classicrawker
If you want a taste of Gabriel Genesis live this is an excellent album to gethttp://www.amazon.com/Genesis-Live-Definitive-Remaster-GENESIS/dp/B000002J1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1431624336&sr=1-1&keywords=Genesis+liveHere is a taste of the Magic Box with Gabriel in old man mask.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFBY4dvoIScFor those who like the Gabriel era Genesis here is a an hour long show from 1973https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FBcz3tBH74Here is a fan made effort of a "Lambs Lies Down on Broadway" live show with pieces of video spliced in. Not the best quality video, as there is little live video of that tour, but it gives you an idea of the theatrics of the showhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_2708061051&feature=iv&src_vid=0pl0B_HB5So&v=5PdQAT0kLw8This is one band I regret never seeing live when Gabriel was in the band Edited May 14, 2015 by classicrawker

BetterDay7
There's a tribute band called The Musical Box. I went to see them. They performed the whole of The Lamb. They were very good. Didn't expect much but I was surprised.
