Carnal894x
Long story short, I play guitar and for the past six months I have been experiencing writers block musically and some lyrically. I thought of something today that may help: would anyone be willing to send me anything such as drum beats, bass lines or even some guitar stuff that could get me off my ass and help inspire me? Dm me if you are willing and I'll give you my email if it turns into anything significant I'll keep you informed send it back and see what you think. Obviously you get writing credit since it's your music you'll be sending me.
adamsapple
Just expand your musical horizon and listen to artists and styles you haven't paid much attention to yet. If you play guitar primarily, try and learn another instrument just for fun. Play some piano, it's actually much easier than guitar and teaches you a lot about music theory and structure. Try and sing or just get a harmonica and play around. There is no such thing as a writers block. It's all a matter of inspiration.
downzy
I enjoy song writing as a hobby. I'll turn off the radio in the car and make up my own melodies. Most of it's worthless, but once in awhile something will get stuck in my head and I'll work it out on the piano when I get home. I'm a big believer in the concept of songwriters being conduits for what's out there. Really great ideas isn't "created," but discovered. Some times it takes time; some times it comes immediate. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. If you're not enjoying it, take a break and come back to it.

I may have 3 songs on the go and then something comes along and it has to be the thing I focus on. Downstairs feel like you control it at all when this happens.
