Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, BLS and Dream Theatre are not Heavy Metal.

Iron Maiden is the best anyway, followed by Judas Priest, IMO.

DT - Prog Metal. Not Heavy by a mile. If you say Dream Theatre is Heavy Metal, you should get off them drugs, man.

Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and the BLS can be thrown in there with them - Thrash/Speed Metal.

Heavy metal bands:

Iron Maiden.

Judas Priest.

Black Sabbath.

Accept.

U.D.O.

Saxon.

And more.

Well if I limit myself on the offered bands I will definitely go with Judas Priest.

But again, there are many metal bands (of all subgenres) that people never mention, or that are just not well known, that in quality overcome by far most of the bands mentioned above.
