Harmonica's in rock music

Well, I was just listening to some Bob Dylan...and...I figured the use of the harmonica in rock today is kinda dying out. Which is a shame, because it's anm amazing with a lot of feeling!

Bob Dylan used them a lot, as did Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones. But you don't see a lot of today's bands do it actualy.

I was at a Racoon (a Dutch feel-good rock band) concert recently, and the singer suprised me with a great harmonica solo! More bands today should do this stuff! ;)

You thoughts on this instrument?

And on the (lack of) use of it these days?

I miss them!

Yeah I love hearing a bit of harmonica playing every now and then, especially in Dylan's music. You'd mainly hear it in old folk, country, and blues music mainly. I don't think it's got a place in modern music these days because the syles are just very different, which is a shame.

I actually asked a while ago if anyone around here plays, I've had one for a while but i've never got round to learning it properly...

Hey Stratomaster

Ive been playing since I was a kid,

just carry it around and start off with something catchy and just work at it

One of the first songs I learned was "love love me do" by the Beatles

and

(rock Gods forgive me) that Billy Joel tune "and were all in the mood for a melody" whatever the title is

dont give up, its one of those instruments that sounds better with an amp

and accompanying music so find some freinds that can play another instrument and jam.

harmonica's are cool and bob dylan is a legend.

there does seem to be a lack of them in modern music but bruce springstein (if thats how you spell it) has a new song which he's going for the dylan look with acoustic and harmonica and all.

Thanks shades.

Does it limit what songs you can play based on the Key your harmonica is in? If you get what I mean... The one i've got is in the Key of D.

yea, it matters a lot

get you a "c" to start with

they're pretty cheap, like 20 bucks each for a cheap one.

so eventually get them all

then when you're ready buy an amp with a mouthpiece, like 200 bucks for that set up

Well, I was just listening to some Bob Dylan...

I thought of Bob as soon as I saw the title!

Harmonica died out with hair/heavy metal :( We do need more harmonica in rock music. Or maybe we just need another Bob Dylan.

We just need more of the Bob we have rock3
