Has anyone else listened to Better on their ipod? Do you hear that very noticable orchestra-sound in the background during the intro?

I'm pretty sure it cannot be heard on standard computer speakers or home stereo speakers- but there are very clear elements to the song that can be heard through an ipod (or perhaps some other high-quality mp3 player for that matter) that are not apparent otherwise.

honestly, the first time i heard it- it sounded like a completely different song than what i'm used to... the bass and mid tones were much louder and it truly gave a much different mood to the song...

i think this album is going to be pretty major if the rest of the songs sound as they do in better.

Yeah, I have noticed that also. It certainly does give the song a different perspective.

all songs sound differnet through a good set of earphones :)

Dude that is so not true!!!! I tried with Celine and trust me, it didn't change a thing!!!

He didn't say they sounded better. He said they sounded different. Big difference there. :)

Indeed

It's funny once the album has been mastered the tracks might sound totally different.

I only really found out about mastering recently but as far as i know when recording a track, during the mixing stage it may sound full on the studio monitors and you get a good representation of what everything sounds like but when you play that mix on other systems it can sound completely different, even on high end gear.

That's where mastering comes in - it gives tracks the right balance on every player from the cheapest £20 radio up to the most expensive top of the range specialist kit. It also always tracks to sit alongside each other on album and be played on the radio without being quiter than all the other tracks. That's why most big name artists spend 10's thousands of £s on mastering.

Well... with ipods being truly crappy instruments or not, i've been listening to better all day through it... it honest to god sounds like a different song........ if i hadn't heard it through laptop speakers first, i possibility could have thought it was a studio cut.... absolutely beautiful layers, colorful tones, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

this song really is a masterpiece. no doubt in my mind it will be regarded as one of gn'r's true classics in years to come.
