It's been raining so much all my Christmas lights went out last night.  Hopefully they dry out today.  Caleb was so into it he put up some of their Christmas stuff in the rain.  I like him.  He gets into this stuff, quite guy who gets excited about stuff.  My daughter is surprising him with a Buddy the Elf yard thing when he comes home from work today.  They are so cute as a couple.

And fuck, the greenhouse wants more money.  I've got 3 words for you folks, fall plant sale.  I start talking about that and watch those budgets get trimmed back.

You forget every time, fortunately you remember when it comes to growing.  The coleus have grown into the lights again.  They are about ready for their first hair cut.

I love that you and Caleb have this shared passion! And your daughters surprise for him sounds like something you did for your Mom. Oh you guys :) Sounds fun.

"We need more money to fund the greenhouse, which we use to grow the plants that we sell to fund our work." Yeah, somethings off in that thinking. Glad you rolled em back

Those coleus sound mighty. I'll have to order the soil, cant get organic in the winter here (or really any). By this time next year I will finally have my worm farm going I hope. If the Boss will allow for a worm farm that is...

Marsha was in a car accident.  She's cracked a rib.  She has a bunch of stuff growing at her house.  I've offered to help care for those.  She's our plant sale lead.  How long does it take to recover from that?

I've shoved as many of the house plants into the growing room as I can to make way for the Christmas tree.  Love my tree but hate putting it up.  That, of course, is going to attract a whole new exploration mode for the cats.  Is there any way to train cats to care for plants?  They have no problem getting to them.

Yeah my daughter is marrying a guy more like me then she realizes or maybe she does know.  We did okay.  I've left her a little Buckcherry surprise on my wish list.  I'm waiting for her to discover it.  Caleb got out of the car smiling.   And then went to town on putting up their lights.  It's Christmas!

Oh no, thats terrible. The must have been so scary. Please give my best to her? I think ribs are one of those tricky ones where recovery is based on how much someone rests/ doesnt move. I think its a while either way. But you might not have to organize the plant sale. I hope the plants shes got going will be interesting for you to work with. Do you know whats shes got going?

You just put an elf hat on the cats and they turn into little Christmas helpers. Its science.

Your daughter looks a lot like you and is marrying your personality.  :wow: You three sound like a great trio! Like tickets to see buckcherry?

Im planning to set up my nativity today. That'll be all for christmas stuff.

The radio is a mix of 'isnt christmas so nice. a time of giving a joy' with the next segment 'those displaced by the rooming house fire last year are living in a tent city. the National Capital Committee has just served them trespassing notices.'  'And in other news the province has cut 1/3 of the legal aid budget.' Then back to 'Theres a bake sale tonight!' So, all I want for Christmas is to survive an eco-socialist revolution with my two front teeth (intact) :)

Did you lights turn back on? I love that they were already worn by the time they were actually allowed to be up

Marsha is one tough woman.  A cracked rib isn't going to take her out of the fight.   To help her you have to be around for your marching orders.  Love to work with her.  We're not done until the job is finished.

Lights are still waterlogged.  It's one extension cord that fills up with water.  I should fix that.  My decorations are going up slowly.  With the kid having the bigger house, we're all going over there.  I'm thinking I don't really have to put all this stuff up.  And I'm having a case of laziness.  I'm going to have to get moving.  Made my last pot of coffee so I'm going to have to leave this house at some point.  There's a bunch of places I could hit while on that trip if I could get my shit together.   Turkey makes you lazy.

The news never gets better does it?

Holy shit, this may happen.  You're getting the long story.

So I'm on my way to the garden for my check of the property after the storm.  Feeling a little like I need to break free of what's bringing me down and I have a little fun, screw with some folks.  I've got a santa hat, Christmas sweatshirt and a tree skirt.  Won $5 wearing that outfit before, made a lot of folks smile and what the hey, it worked once.  I'm working these events, lets work it, lol.

I turn into the property and there's Kevin, surprising.  He went to the creek meeting.  They don't want us to raise all the money just some so they can show corporate sponsors we're invested.  We in turn will let them put their name on shit.  I guess the 4H group can name a cow or something after them.  I'm okay with that.  I wanted to reel back the garden spending until we had a better plan to use the place and more people invested in it.  There goes your money folks.  We're cutting them a check.  Corporate sponsorship kind of pushes my agenda to be more active out there and use the place.  And once you have a sponsor, you can ask again.  I'm very appreciative of folks who donate to the causes I'm behind.  I will talk my ass off about them.  You've got my goodwill for what it's worth.

This could work.  Protects the gardens too because they can't minimize its importance if it's bringing money from the sponsors.  Of course, the county will cut our funding if they find out we have corporate sponsors.  May get us out of the creek for the moment but we're going back in at some point.

Just waiting for cyber Monday to hit that button on the cart and 90% of my Christmas shopping is done!

Oh god, I'm up at 6 in the morning to attend church.   It's the annual brass concert by the symphony.  Even God shows up for this.  And wouldn't you know I have nothing appropriate to wear that I won't freeze my ass off in.  Great, one day a year I show up to church and I'm hiding from God.

We're about to have a couple of days of warmer weather starting tomorrow.  We need to get the perennials for the plant sale cut back and under cover.  Drag the rest of the plants into the hoop house.

Thankfully a lot of our musical events are in the evening! I mean, traditionally one would be covered up in church, except some of these pentecostal churches round here. Home of the holy cleavage  Hope its a nice time.

You're selling out to the man?!? :wow: J/K, Sounds like good news! I bet its because of your award winning costume - you should wear it to all the budget meetings?!?!  Maybe become a corporate mascot?

Oh, thats neat, so the cart updates to the sale prices? I didnt know one could do that.

Yeah, I'm going to have to convince the group we are selling out to the man.   At least I hope we are selling out to the man.

I forgot, that new garden club.  They called and asked if I would be their treasure.  WTF?  They don't even know me and they want to put me in charge of the money?  Oh hell no.  Not another money thing!

The perennials are in pots so we can try to warm them up early for the plant sale.  Hopefully we can bring them out of winter hibernation and get big enough to show by the end of April.  Perennials are not allowed in the greenhouse as they bring in bugs.  They go in the cold frames type stuff.  We kind of create our own cold frames.  This one is surrounded by stones with clear plastic over the top.

Damn, Amazon is on it.  My order from four hours ago is already shipping.  They aren't going to make that 3 delivery but close enough.

Master Gardeners, brought to you in part by Hungry Man microwave dinners

Slow down there Fleur de Lis! Sheesh, what an ask! Are you gonna do it? Youd be great for it.

I see about the perennials. My chives sure came out of hibernation fast.

Amazon is Skynet :wow::max::lol:

:axl: "Waste of Ammo"

One year for Giving Tuesday I bought this fan powered camp stove that creates excess thermal energy that can charge electronics and power a daisy chain of lights. I even use it inside with just a candle and no fan to re-heat meals over in my cast iron (works surprising well!!). My purchase meant that a household in the global south got one too!! :headbang: But this year Ima get Disney Plus instead.

Speaking of getting stuff. I got a humidifier and its great for my nose, will see whats up once the seedlings are out of the dome though. That will be the moment of truth.

Oh no, I don't put my hands on anybody's money but my own.  Any fundraisers I do, I turn the money over to the treasure before I leave the building.

So I'm at the concert and this woman coming through the row asks if I'm who I am by my first name.  Thinking she's part of our group I say yeah and tell her she can sit next to DJ.  She excuses herself as she has a seat down the line.  Think nothing of it, guess I'm part of a big group.  DJ comes back and I tell her the woman is down the line.  DJ says no, our group is where they are suppose to be and there's nobody else.  She looks down the line and doesn't recognize anybody.  "Must be somebody who knows you."  I didn't recognize her.  "You better move over DJ, I've been busted in church, incoming lightning bolt".   Hate that tons of people know me and I'm never sure if I'm suppose to know them.  Concert was good.  I sat next to a violinist for the St Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Glad your nose is good.  No news out of my plant room.

I wonder where she knew you from? Why do so many people know you? As a pinball star? A lot of homeless/under-housed people know me, but sometimes they remember me longer than I remember each one of them. So thats always nice to be approached and reconnect. Look at you, seated with a violinist! You've inspired me to prioritize getting to some of the recitals :headbang:

Its amazing how much just having the chives has framed my cooking - Im on an asian inspired stir fry, topped with diced chives kick. Cant wait for the basil!!

Did you trim the Coleus back?

Totally random we sat next to each other.  No way I'm going to the women's restroom during intermission, might as well pass the time talking to the person next to you.  I'm on a mission to find out a little more about the drummer in the bagpipe group.  She's amazing with these little fuzzy things she bangs on the drum with.  They spin and she does little tricks with them between beats.  Sometimes she beats on herself.

This whole thing with people knowing me and me not having a clue who they are makes me crazy.  They ask if I'm me instead of a hey there I know you thing.  I never know how to respond.  It's even weirder when my friends are with me and they start looking at me like I'm somebody.  My only clue as to what world they may know me from is if they use just my first name or my full name.  I have people tell me they saw me somewhere but didn't say hi because they didn't want to bother me.  Believe me, I'm just an everyday people, you can say hi.  Just give me a fucking clue who you are!

This is happening to you.  You think you were just out there gardening, doing your thing and having a good time.  Everyone of those people know your name and your face.  You may not have even talked to them but they think you are somebody important by what you did.  They're going to shove you into the lead, expect shit from you and you're going to be standing there wondering how the hell you got there, secretly thinking you shouldn't be the one.   I'm still wondering why all these folks remember me.

I love stir fries.  Throw whatever you have in there and put a little sauce on it.  I'm fond of the ginger and teriyaki sauces.

I'm waiting for the coleus to get a little bit taller before I cut them back and make some more plants.  At this rate I'm going to have coleus like you had kale.  Read up on lantanas, they take 6 to 8 weeks to germinate.  I've got a few more weeks to go.  I have geraniums and begonias blooming in the kitchen window.

The drummer beats on herself? Especially neat at a Christmas recital!  I used to watch the pipe band (with those drums with fuzzy ends) march, it was all women and was just about the most enticing thing Ive ever seen!

You are some sorta high society person? They recognize you but they dont feel like they can approach you? That must be such a wild thing for you to navigate. Im so curious to ask more, but it would get too personal I suspect.

If all goes well, Ill be too busy to be a lead next season. As Ive regained more and more strength and mobility I have been applying my creative streak to making money and its going okay. Add along with my hopes for agri business - if that pans out that will be more than enough on my plate. Actually even if my own agri ventures don't explode out the gate, I believe I was basically offered a job with a pro at the end of last season, so fingers crossed for that too! Plus your stories make it sound no fun!

Mmmmmmmm ginger and teriyaki  Yesss! I might have to do that next. Ive been doing variations on a base of soy sauce, brown rice vinegar and sriracha mixed with corn starch so it thickens and coats the stir fry.

Are the geraniums and begonias from Marsha? That must be really nice to have n the kitchen. I bet those Lantanas will germinate!!

Repotting will have to wait until tomorrow as I binge watch all things Star Wars on the new disney 'netflix' type thing. :headbang:

High society  It's not all that personal just to hard to explain.  I haven't even got a good grip on it.  Throws me off balance every time.

Oh good for you!  Your life is changing.  Bet you're freaked.   So cool though when you're back in the main stream and shit is happening.  I like my backwaters when the current has beaten the fuck out of me but you're just going in circles back there.

Those are my mother plants in the window.  I'll cut them down and make more plants in the spring.  Travels By Narrow Boat is back for season 6.  I'm doing a little of that TV time too.

I got all the shit on the business where the gardens are.  I'm around so much, inside people tell me shit.  Basically the new head guy feels it's a losing venture and doesn't see how it can be maintained.  He doesn't see it holding together another 2 years.  He's right, for what they do it could be done in existing county space.  The gardens bring in no money and while the greenhouse brings in big bucks, it goes to us.  I go to a meeting tonight and will get more information but we are going in the creek on way or another.

Found a cool, cheap gift.  It's a stainless steel cleaning bar.  You rub your hands on it and it takes away odors like fish that you can't wash off your hands.  For the cook who has everything.  Also found another cool gift but the person isn't getting it till the end of the week so hush on that.  Don't worry they open their gift before Christmas.  I'll tell you about it on the 6th.  It's these little, you never saw that gift coming that makes Christmas fun!

Basically, they are going ahead with the creek project.  The city is fixing up stream with or without us.  No matter how it goes we're getting more water trying to come through at a faster rate.  Everybody's bank account is going to take a hard hit except the kid's, 4H.  We would be left with enough to cover our plant sale operations.  The garden's funds would be dependant on how well the plant sale does minus what we need for the next year.  A big cut to what we spent last year.  The business has a plan to bring in revenue but that only covers day to day operations.  Nothing to build back up their reserves that will all go for this.  I, of course, ask if the investment is worth it.  You know they want it to be.  Okay, I'm willing to jump in and help.  I want it to be too.

I don't know if my group is going to fork over what they are asking for.  It's double what I was willing to let go of.  And there's alway the "this is just an estimate", we may be talking more money.  Good thing I like that fucking creek.

It must be stressful? It stresses me out!

Would a flower shop want to be able to advertise selling "local flowers??" You could supply them? Premium prices for that kinda stuff.

I really hope for a miracle. A green new deal. Whatever it takes to keep the valuable work you do going.

I have freaked myself out with major life disturbances so many times.   It's tough to get through but when you look back you think to yourself, I was really living.  You know, not just existing.

I saw something at the store today to maybe help with your humidity.  Forgot the name of the product.  It's with the shower cleaning products.  These little bags that hang around and soak up moisture.  Might check that out.

She got the gift but didn't open it.  We're tease each other about it now.   Amazon is kicking ass.  They are getting my stuff here days before it was first projected.

The Master Naturalist have included me in their e-mails about the creek project.  Didn't know they felt like the bastard child of the Extension Center.  The person who threw me in there probably doesn't realize the rest of the group is talking freely and they probably wouldn't have done that if they knew I wasn't one of them.  They don't want to give any money.  They want to stabilize the creek bed with trees, move the greenhouse to a safer spot along with the amendment bins.  Er, look up folks.  You see all those power lines above your head?  All the cleared ground beneath those?  Power company comes through every few years and levels their easement.  Yeah we thought of trees too only to watch them fall to the bulldozers.  Their bodies are still out there.

I don't know what is the best course of action.  I'll support any plan that doesn't involve moving the greenhouse.   It took us one day to take that down where it stood and two years, thousands of dollars, countless volunteer hours to put it back up.  Not happening!

Do these tarot card readers get info on what you post?  She's talking about wealth projects and confusion.  She wants $24 a month to help successfully guide me.  Lady, if it's in the cards, it's going to happen with or without you.  I'm pretty good at making my own way.  I'll keep my $24 a month and buy a few bandages.

"Really living" I like that way of looking at it. 'Trying to keep my head above water' is what it feels like.

Ill check out those humidity bags, thanks!! Just removed some mold from in the dome as I up-potted the seedlings.

Must be awkward to find yourself included in the Master Naturalists email? But also it sounds like its a good thing you were, given there over sights. #keepgreenhousethere

I am 99.9% sure that online Tarrot card readers would be buy cup your online data. Crazy times! Yep, the bandages will be more useful

So, yeah Im finally up potted and Beaker loved the gardening time. The lights werent on yet and he remained behind in the grow room, eventually announcing and celebrating the lights turning on. Once it was brought to my attention he left the room to resume his daily routine. What a sweetie. The Holy Basil germinated best, along with kale. Now everything is right up at the lights so hopefully they will take off now.

It is trying to keep your head above water.  You ain't floating along in life now.  Not to minimize you but the way I know how badly you get freaked out, I did it with a kid in tow.  The trick is to be willing to do what other people aren't to get to your goal.  I'm not talking do wrong either.  For example, while I was willing to have a business wardrobe of 7 outfits I mixed and match, my friend who was in a similar situation had enough clothes for a new outfit for everyday of the year.  Not the worst of the budget cuts just an example.  My house payment was made every month.  She refinanced several times to avoid foreclosure for getting months behind in her payments.  She had to get out of the house in the end with nothing to show for home ownership.

You're the kind that is going to do what you need to to get there.  Don't give up, you'll get there.  No adventure in life is ever smooth sailing.

This is how it happens.  One master naturalist has included me in the e-mails and suddenly my name is out there.  When they find out who I am, I'll be instantly viewed as someone of importance representing the other group.  I become the go to person, lol.  There's a lot I could clear up in these emails if I wanted to establish myself as the go to person.  But fingers off the keyboard and hit the delete button.

I'm screaming about my group in my own head.  They don't want me to talk about how we could be at risk of losing the property.  If you don't talk about it, how can we do anything to prevent it?  Ignoring it hasn't improved the situation any.  Sometimes I feel like I need to dye my hair, change my eye color and strap by breasts down.  Somebody even said to me, we'll just get all gussied up and go over there and ask for a donation.   First off I'm an old woman now.  I never tried to use that to my advantage when I could and I'm seriously offended, especially considering you are another woman, to think I could, would or have ever sunk that low.  Yeah, my head is about to explode.

Anyway, glad your lights are on.  Our own little sanctuary.  The escape room.
