  1. I remember waiting for the album for years, listening to the leaks over and over. When the release day came, I went to a local supermarket and picked up a copy of the shelf. I felt deflated. I loved the songs, but the album should’ve come out in 2006. I put the album back on the shelf and left the store.

Then I got home and the copy I’d pre-ordered online was waiting for me on my doorstep :P

    I love the record.

'm trying to force myself to hear the "monsters in my head" bit but I can't tell if I can actually hear it or it's just in my head (hah). It would be hard to make out on such a clip since those vocals are so low in pitch, but I'm wondering more and more if that particular refrain was recorded much more recently than the other vocals on Monsters 🤔

Try 1:07 onwards in the cellphone clip.

Im 100% certain Axl is singing ‘The monsters they’ll kill me’ in both versions of the track

I've dug out my old laptop which had the Vienna 2010 afterparty phone leak, and it's interesting seeing how you can now tell it's the "I was there for you" chorus up to 0:18 and the bridge of Monsters matches up with 1:28 to 1:58 of that... but there's a lot that sounds so different? I'm not sure I can hear the "monsters in my head" refrain at any point? And man, those guitars go fucking HARD in that phone leak, the final cut seems neutered in comparison :/ Hopefully we get a leak of that version one day.

Good spot. I can hear that too now. Would like to hear the original someday as it sounds a lot meaner. Maybe a bit cluttered? I love the version we have.

Can anyone explain how the general is related to estranged? Sebastian said back in like 2007 that he heard the general and Axl said it wouldn’t be released until 2012, it was part of a trilogy or continuation of estranged? Maybe I’m remembering something wrong?

I think the key message is to take anything Baz says with a pinch of salt. For instance, he clearly mistook Monsters for The General.

  5. Ok so I’ve listened to both tracks probably around 50 times since Friday. I’m now of the firm belief that Monsters is in fact the much fabled Soul Monster. Axl isn’t singing ‘oh, but it’s over now’ during the choruses; it’s actually ‘oh, but its soul burns out.’ This coupled with the monsters in the song lyrics and, well…you get the picture.

I also think that the band decided to release Soul Monster because of the cellphone clip from the Vienna aftershow party. We all thought that was The General. Can you imagine if only The General was released? Don’t get me wrong - I love the track. But, fans would have been like…WTF, this isn’t what we were expecting/hoping for. Of course, the natural conclusion is that the cellphone clip was actually Soul Monster and not The General.

Kudos to GnR for doing this.
