  1. Worst is an easy call, being Bridge school.

The best on the other hand I would never be able to choose, but I agree with the people who spoke about the Freddy Mercury tribute being incredible, There are many other great shows of course, my personal being live at the central, 1986.

    Ritz - October (1987)

This is not the well known MTV special. Axl's voice was fucking pristine on this show.

Man, almost a decade later and you still manage to come up with gems that I've never known about - that's an incredible SCOM!

Thanks, buddy. That show has always stood out to me. It's the earliest show (as far as I can see) where Axl's deep rasp first began to come out.

  2. I initially wanted to name myself "Rocket King" as Rocket Queen is my favorite GN'R song (it was also my alias in the old Mygnr message board). However, that name was already taken. So, I then thought I would go with a name that combines Axl's home state with his last name. Funny thing is - I was 13 years old at the time, so I accidentally misspelled "Indiana" (I gave it two n's instead of just one). After realizing the error, I decided to leave it...my brand had already been cemented. B-):P

  3. Haven't kept up much on forums and whatnot since like 2010 but people on here are ripping him to shreds. Why? I'm watching this video of Estranged from the 20th and he sounds fine. Slightly mickey mouse-ish but fine nonetheless. Sounds like post 1994 Axl to me

I'm fulfilling one of my life-long dreams and seeing them for the first time in May, please don't ruin it for me

Because he clearly just isn't trying anymore.

  4. I'm most likely posting this topic on the wrong forum, but I'm in need of some of your help. For a class of mine, we were tasked with creating viral content and then pushing that content to as many people as possible (our grade depending on the amount of people we reach). My buddies and I decided to record a cover of Clapton's Tears in Heaven and we could for sure use your views/comments!

    Here's the link:

So, if it is okay with the moderators, it'd be great if this topic could remain here for now - at least so that it is visible to a good number of people.

p.s. I know it's "Tears in Heaven". Just a small hiccup.

  5. The problem is that Axl doesn't really rehearse. The band can sound great and tight, but if Axl goes out there and starts sounding like shit, then it doesn't matter....the whole band will be bashed. DJ himself mentioned that Axl did not show up to rehearsals (not even once) prior to the beginning of the 2009 tour, and that the first time he saw him rehearse was literally during that first show in Taipei.

So, history's not on Axl's side.

  6. I live in Bethlehem, so I'll definitely be there! Ironically, I saw Slash play at the same exact venue just a few months ago (in addition to seeing The Offspring, Neon Trees, and Dead Sara there in 2012). Motley Crue and Paramore also played there late last year. However, I did not attend either gigs. Overall, it's a very cool space.

Here are a few pictures of the entire entertainment complex:

  7. Funny to see the posters who got mad about this list. Or who chose to also include insults in their posts.

Whenever somebody posts that GnR's popularity is down, the new mantra is that US numbers don't matter and that GnR is still a powerhouse overseas. Interesting logic, as GnR is an American based band. I suppose these are the same people who will say that the Red Sox/Cardinals winner is not the "real World Series champions" because they didn't defeat Japan or Cuba's best team.

Brainsaber, who whines and cries that I'm stalking him and demands I stop responding to his posts, chooses to respond to my topics - which is odd in itself. But what can you do. His response is to post a list of his own that somehow (in his mind) disproves my list (which is a factual list, no opinion in it). CD reaching number one in Canada or Slovene doesn't give you ANY comparison data at all. How many copies does one have to sell to reach number one in Slovene??? How many weeks did it stay there?

Maybe the Canada one is a good one to use as we have some things to add to it. Hit number one of their charts. Earlier this year GnR did some shows in Canada and failed to sell out a 3,000 seat venue. They did however sell out the 2,400 seat venue. HHmmm. So GnR is a band that can reasonably be excepted to play - and sometimes sell out - Canadian venues in the 2,500-to-3,000 seat range. Well HELL, you guys are right.

GnR is still as popular as ever overseas.

You guys who worship and praise Axl's every move keep doing so. It really is fun to watch. Brainsaber can make post jerking off icons and Soulmonster can win/ridicule and educate all of us. Gunzen can post angry rants at people who aren't praising Axl's every move. This is the guy who said NOBODY has the right to judge a GnR performance off of Youtube.....then an hour later made a post that Axl sounds awesome live - his proof being that his wife walked by his computer and heard Axl singing on Youtube!!!!!!!!! (you seriously can't make this stuff up).

The rest of us will continue supporting our favorite singer and hoping he'll put out another album in the near future (oh crap, that will bring pages of responses of how GnR puts out music on the same time frame as other major bands and how much of an entitled jerk I am for wanting new music). I'll continue to love Chinese Democracy, but do so with a clear and logical understanding of where the band sits in terms of success and popularity.

What are you talking about? This is very simple:

On average (that is, per show), Guns N' Roses today sells more concert tickets outside of the United States as opposed to within. As a matter of fact, this is true for most major international acts (for reasons already cited in this topic).

The majority of your post is irrelevant, "holier than thou" garbage.

  8. Your argument is mute. When people are speaking of the issue, they are referring to touring figures. Obviously, album sales matters, but most of those records sold consist of music made by the old band. Also, you must take account of the ratio of people within those countries in relation to the number of records sold (in addition to rates of disposable income, size/relevance of the country's music industry, etc.).

It is no opinion that this current incarnation of the group has had much more success (in a live setting) outside of the Unites States as opposed to within. That is a fact.

  9. Easy. This band reached its peak in 2006. They had so much going for them at this point. The super-succesful release of the Greatest Hits album in 2004 brought the band (or should I say, "brand") a new, young fan base. In 2006, much of this was still evident. In addition to that, the band (especially Axl) both looked and played like ferocious beasts (with the exception of Ron who was still getting used to being in the band).

Those four gigs at the Hammerstein Ballroom were incredible. You could just feel the energy and excitement in the air. This forum turned upside down (in a good way) on the eve of that first show. In that summer, the band played to over 600,000 fans in total; a fantastic achievement in itself. I never felt that things were the same after the band failed to deliver an album that fall. That is when I, for the most part, stopped caring.

  10. It's quite a change in approach given that during the early eras Axl was quite vocal in his criticisms of politicized music. Have you ever seen his interview talking about Iron Maiden? He basically said he disliked them on the basis that their musical message was entirely political. Yet, he later recorded huge statements like Civil War and the entire Chinese record, which is steeped in politics.

    No.

You completely misunderstood what Axl said in that interview (as many have). Axl was simply making an analogy between bands and political parties. Basically, he said that bands are like political organizations and that each band's brand of music is like a political party's ideology. By using this analogy, he then said that he saw Iron Maiden's and GN'R's music as being part of a completely different spectrum and that he would never want GN'R's music to ever be like Iron Maiden's (in other words - GN'R's music at the time was greatly autobiographical and full of swagger - something that Iron Maiden's music was not).
