  1. I saw Bon Jovi for the first time about a month or so ago. I was glad they played the hits from the 80's because I haven't bought a new cd of theirs since then. lol

They didn't do "Wanted Dead or alive", so I was disappointed with that, but maybe because Richie S wasn't there. BonJovi is coming back to Dallas in October and I'm wondering if Richie will be there? The ticket prices are so high it's unreal that anyone would pay thousands to be in the little pit in front of the stage, but they do and they did.

I was bored for most of the show and a lot of people were since I saw a lot of people playing with their cell phones. lol

I saw GNR 3 times and was never bored with their set list at all. Love them all 3 times and hope in the near future I get to see them again.

I was at that show. Wanted was played.
  2. I wouldn't mind an intimate show at Granada Theater. I saw Adam Ant there last year and will see him there again in July.

Interestingly so, Velvet Revolver played there back in 2004. The show sold out almost immediately.

Really? I would have liked to have seen that. I only moved to DFW three years ago. I've had the fortune of going to at least one show a year since I moved here.

    Yup. Here's an article:

    http://theconcertman.tripod.com/concerts/dmnarticle3.html

DFW is definitely a great place for rock shows. So many rock bands come through the area. Texas in general is a haven for rock artists.

  3. I dislike how the production team mixed and mastered both records. They sound dated to me (as opposed to Appetite, which I feel has a crisper/fresher sound). In addition to that, Matt's drums are missing that swagger that helped give GN'R a more distinctive sound. The drums just sound muddy to me. Furthermore (as previously stated in this thread), Izzy's lack of involvement is evident in the lack of interplay between Slash's and Izzy's guitar work. To me, this was an integral component of the GN'R "sound" that is largely missing from these two records.

Overall, I think these are fantastic records that are undoubtedly flawed. They could have definitely been taken to another level had the mentioned issues been addressed more attentively.

  4. The last time GN'R played Dallas (2011), they nearly sold out the Gexa Energy Pavilion (maximum capacity - 20,111), so I'm surprised that they are playing such a smaller venue this time around. However, I've seen many shows there (including a GN'R cover band - some of you may consider this an irony), and it's a fantastic hall with great acoustics. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it as I'll be leaving Dallas two weeks prior to this show.

In my opinion, if they were truly downsizing due to lack of demand (as opposed to purposely booking a more "intimate" show), they would have booked a date at the Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie (maximum capacity - 6,350) rather than the House of Blues. Though, that is just a feeling I have.

On a different note, on their last Texas outing prior to the 2011 show, GN'R sold out Texas Stadium (maximum capacity - 65,675) on their tour with Metallica back in 1992. Things sure have changed...

  5. Lol, did somebody really say that Slash has never blamed himself for anything that happened with the old band? Seriously? Maybe you need to do some research. Axl is the ONLY one of the classic line-up that has refused to take any blame. The ONLY one.

Lol II at people who are still stuck on saying the Media has it out for Axl Rose. Quite possibly the most idiotic belief on this forum. Anybody that seriously believes that the media has a personal vendetta against Axl Rose shouldn't be allowed to voice their opinions in a public forum. For their own good. It is just totally idiotic.

    As for the original question.

For now, the answer has to be no.

Simply because Axl and Beta refuse to let the current band release their own music.

You can't become a classic band without releasing your own material. It's impossible.

If Axl and Beta allow the current band to release their own material - at least 4-5 albums worth - then yes, they have the potential to be a hall of fame band.

But until Axl and Beta decide to do that.........then how can anybody say they have a chance to be special? We haven't heard ONE song that this current band has created together.

Hey dude quick question.....do you think that just maybe there is some sort of bias with the media and the general public against Axl just like it was for Michael Jackson?

I mean no matter what they would shit on everything MJ did.

Yes, there is somewhat of a bias against him (not so much anymore as the media just doesn't care about him as much as it used to). However, it's largely due to Axl's eccentric actions that this bias even exists. In addition to that, he often gives fuel to the fire and puts himself in the worst possible situations to be in. So, I don't feel bad for him.

  6. I thought it was okay. However, it's not as bad as people are making it out to be. It didn't scare me (wasn't expecting it too), but I thought that it excelled in its technical aspects such as cinematography. I don't 't think the original was that good to begin with. Imo, the only reason to watch it is for its early 80s camp vibe and Bruce Campbell (his character, Ash, doesn't do anything cool until the second one anyway).

  7. That photo of axl isn't in Perth, look at the drinks - they aren't Australian.

The photo of the WACA is taken from the old Hyatt on Adelaide Terrace. Don't know the name of it now.

^ the drink look like Canada Dry whatever that is, he's in a transit lounge somewhere not even in aus yet.

So, by this logic, if I'm in a picture standing next to a Honda, I must be in Japan.

Did it ever occur to you that Canada Dry Ginger Ale and soda water products is marketed and sold around the world? Or maybe Axl has his own stash of food and drink with him. I guess next you're going to tell us that Budweiser, Marlboro and Coca Cola isn't sold in Austrailia, or they are and you're simply unaware that they're not Austrailian products and originated in the United States simply because they don't say "American Budweiser" like the soda Axl is drinking has "Canada" in it.

I mean, I know Austrailia is surrounded by water and somewhat isolated, but I didn't know it was this bad.

And if you're going to put my country down, learn how to at least spell it right. Fuckwit.

What the hell are you talking about? He wasn't putting your country down at all. He was just pointing out why your previous post was stupid.

  8. "Contract issues" was also the same reason given for the cancellation of the show's theatrical release. I don't know if they think that they really can pull a fast one one us or if they just can't get their contractual shit together.

  9. Can't say I'm surprised. Guns N' Roses is wildly gifted in the art of cancellation and disappointment.

He maybe cancelled one show on what 200 since 2006? He rescheduled the ones he missed cause of Tommy's wrist. Where have you been?

The global theatrical release for this same show was cancelled just a few months ago. Where have you been?

Btw, just to nitpick, the 2007 American dates were also cancelled, so get your facts straight.

  10. I'm a fan of horror movies and have seen so many horrors movies. Last night I discovered this one and I can't understand why I've never watched it before. It's really great and I think I like it best  I especially like the ending

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR5MRz5a8Qc

Saw it when it first came out. It's very good indeed. I usually don't take newer horror films seriously, but I admit that this one, at times, had me on the edge of my seat.

  11. In all fairness, he did sound sick at the Chicago gig. A couple days earlier at The Ritz he was pretty good.

I still say he knows he can't give rasp all the time without deteriorating his voice quickly in the long run. Look at Brian Johnson and Lemmy - arguably the 2 raspiest voices in rock and they both sound like utter shit nowadays. On the other hand, look at some vocalists with a cleaner style like Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, Joey Belladonna - they've all maintained a consistently good voice, and their music has all the same requirements of GN'R, just no rasp.

My best guess would be he's in the process of going for a cleaner voice, and he just isn't 100% accustomed to singing totally clean any more. And I'd say the nights he's having a good time and he's really into he throws some rasp in. The reason I say this is because even when the rasp isn't there, the pitch is still usually pretty good.

If people want to slag off Axl for his weight, that's one thing. But the weight isn't a factor in his voice. Drives me crazy when I see people say the voice is a result of the weight.

In a nutshell - a clean voice is easier to maintain longevity and is less detrimental to the vocal cords than a raspy voice. It's not hard to believe either - he started using the clean voice after a long break between tours. But it's also not fair to say a long break between tours causes the loss of rasp since he had it right from the get-go in 2009, which was after a 2 and a half year gap, as opposed to 10 months in 2011.

I am going to go off-topic for this, but...you and Black Sabbath where pretty much in front of me at the Wilkes-Barre show. The Brazilian girls who got backstage later that night were standing to the right of me (and an American Idol semi-finalist was standing next to them!). Anyways, while Axl's voice did not hit the highs that night that it later hit in Philly, his voice seemed to be in pretty good shape. Axl blended his rasp and clean voice very well through out that show. However, since then, his ability to blend these two types of singing styles seems to have deteriorated. I am wondering why that is.

Could be a byproduct of using the cleaner voice much more than the rasp. Not positive though.

Shoulda said "hey" to us at the Wilkes-Barre show! ;)

That could be it. I know that when I sing in falsetto for prolonged periods of time, my "normal" singing voice turns to crap for a short while. Yeah, I definitely should have, dude. I didn't want to seem like a forum creeper though haha.

  13. While the Philly show may have been better, it was by no means excellent. I'm not sure why people around here so quickly point to Philly 2012 as an example of a truly great vocal performance when it still pales in comparison to most 2010 performances. Was there improvement between Chicago and Philly in 2012? Sure. But was Philly a return to form? Not even close.

Compare the performance of Rocket Queen (especially the outro) in Philly 2012 with what Axl was able to put down in London in 2010:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsbhd6nLLek</media>

I was at the Philly show. His vocals were incredible...absolutely mind blowing. I could not believe what I was hearing. I heard the best vocal performance of Street of Dreams and a stunning performance of You're Crazy that night. During Live and Let Die, I thought Axl's head was near explosion. He attacked those screams with a level of ferocity that I had not seen in a very long time. While his rasp wasn't as intact as it was during the 2010 London shows, his control and stamina more than made up for it that night.

  14. I think Axl's peak vocals were between 1986 and 1987. It was the rasp in its infant form pre-damage from extensive touring, and a life of substance abuse. The voice at this point came to him totally naturally, the songs were effortless.

There were parts of 2010 were Axl really upped his game vocally - probably to the extent where he strained himself and hasn't been able to regain such quality. I was blown away by performances in Canada and in Europe.

Couldn't agree more (on both points). Prior to Appetite's release, Axl's voice was absolutely phenomenal. It was raw, natural, angry, beautiful, and much more.

  15. His voice has been shit since Rio in 2011 - way before Bridge School.

I want an explanation for that.

Go watch videos from Wilkes-Barre '11 and Philly '12 and get back to me.

Hah, those were exactly the two shows I attended on their last go-around. His voice was indeed awesome at those shows.

  16. The success of this show, much like most shows, will be determined by these factors:

    1. How long crowd waits for GNR to come onstage.

If GNR can take the normal amount of time to get on stage after the previous act, this will go along way to win over an already skeptical audience. A 90 minute or more wait will likely seal the performance's fate.

    2. Axl's Voice

If Axl can get his voice back into shape, like he did in 2010, he should win over a lot of skeptics and critics. If he sounds like Rio IV, gives critics reasons to say "told you so."

    3. Song selection

Heavy on the hits, low on the new stuff. As much as this goes against what people on this forum wants, the truth is that festival audiences really only want to hear hits. Open with Jungle, not Chinese Democracy. Play some of the Illusions stuff that people have fond memories of (Civil War, Don't Cry, Estranged, etc.). Stop trying to sell people on Chinese Democracy, that album will be almost five years old at that point. People have either heard it or don't care to hear it at this point. Play one, maybe two, songs off of Chinese Democracy (and the songs most casual fans seem to like, i.e. Better, Madagascar, TWAT). If they're going to add covers, do songs that they do well (the Seeker comes to mind).

Then after posting I said to myself "why the fuck am I defending this band? What reason have they given me to do so?" So I was conflicted to say the least

No kidding. I gave that up years ago. Always felt as though if the band wasn't willing or able to do what was necessary to support and defend itself, then why should I waste my time.

Number 1 is the most crucial in this case. Axl's voice is decent enough that its current weakness will not really carryover through the PA and be noticed by casual concert goers.
