  1. rock n roll is dead? thank fucking God...*phew*

INTERVIEWER: how do u feel about being in what is potentially the biggest rock n roll band since the stones?

SID VICIOUS: nothing! what, the stones? oh fucking hell...rock n roll is a load of fucking shit, it should be killed

STEVE JONES: we ain't interested in music anyway, we're interested in chaos.

    _________________________________________________________

Tom: "Both you and John have said that you don't want this to have anything to do with rock 'n' roll. Why do you dislike rock 'n' roll so much?"

John: "It's dead. It's a disease. It's a plague. It's been going on for too long. It's history. It's vile. It's not achieving anything, it's just regression. They play rock 'n' roll at airports. It's about as like advanced as it can possibly get!"

    Tom: "But there was a . . ."

    John: "It's too limited."

Tom: "But there was a time when you didn't feel that way!"

John: "It is too much like a structure, a church."

Tom: "Yeah, but there was . . ."

    John: "A religion. A farce."

Tom: "A time when you did not feel that way! What made you change your mind?"

John: "No, I've always felt this way."

Tom: "Even when you were with the Sex Pistols?"

John: "I wondered when you'd get round to that one! Yes, even then! Because the Sex Pistols was going to be the absolute end of rock 'n' roll, which I thought it was. Unfortunately, the majority of the public, being the senile animals that they are, got that wrong. Too bad. All's I want is an image - something flash."

    __________________________________________________________________

Keith: "Yeah, we were saying we learned from our yesterdays, and our recent American tour... that it was embarrassing to go on stage and do gigs. Cause, um, it's... it seems to be an old fashioned format to go on stage with guitars and... play loud music. I mean, I'm definitely into loud, annoying music, but, um... like, um, getting back to the communications side of things. The people that we are communicating to . . ."

    John: "Instead of, like . . ."

Keith: " . . .is just the wrong people."

John: "A concept these days is a bunch of gits on a stage with all these idiots down in the pits, worshipping them - thinking they're heroes. There should be no difference between who's on stage and who's in the audience. And we've tried very hard to break down those barriers, but it's not working! So we have to think again So in the meantime, we'll put our attentions somewhere else."

    ___________________________________________________________________

Tom: "The music that you will do for the record companies that you mentioned. How will this music differ from what we thought was rock 'n' roll?"

John: "It's no more of that twelve-bar ditty, waving hair in the breeze, platform boots, flap your flair nonsense. It's not a packaged image of third-rate idiots. It's not a pose. We just do our stuff, hated as it usually is. I was very shocked by the reviews of the last album. I believe none of them. I think they liked us for the wrong reasons

but it case u don't wanna take it from johnny rotten...any of u ever hear rock is dead by the doors....Jim was sayin this in '69 people!!! soon after he along with jimi and janis died...

    ROCK IS DEAD

    Hi ya matey.

    Alright baby.

    Gonna love ya.

When I was just a little boy,

    At the age of five.

    I went to sleep,

I heard my momma and poppa talking.

    She said,

"We got to stop that boy,

    He's gettin' too far out,

    He's goin' wild, yeah.

    We gotta stop that child."

    And I lay there listening,

    Feeling bad.

    You know, people

    I was feeling bad.

    Momma didn't like

The way I did my thing.

    The old lady,

She didn't get with that thing.

But my daddy was a sailor,

    Get his head around,

    And he said,

"Boy you got to do it son,

    Get yourself intact."

You gotta love, love, love, love

    Love my baby tonight.

    Let me tell you, baby

    About the death of rock.

I used to be a boy

    In my home block.

    Used to feel alone

    Then I heard some news,

    Bunch of cats

    Got the rockin' news.

You know I love my rock 'n' roll people.

You know we got some fun.

    We gonna rock tonight,

    Yeah c'mon!

    Rock and roll is dead!

    Rock and roll is dead!

    Rock and roll is dead!

    Must be something else instead.

You got to lay right down and

    Die, die, die, die, yeah.

    It's all over, baby.

    That's it.

    We gotta go.

    We had some good times,

    But it's gone.

    It's all over.

I got a few things on my chest,

And I gotta get them off.

Now listen, listen, listen, listen, listen.

Now I don't want to hear

    No talk about no revolution.

    And I swear to God

    I don't want to hear

    No talk about no constitution.

And in my frame of mind,

    I am in no mood

    For no talk about no

    Cremation.

The only thing I'm interested in,

I wanna have a good time.

I don't wanna hear no talk

    About no riots,

    No demonstrations,

    No calcitrations,

    No impablermations.

There's only one thing I want to see,

    That's some dancin'

    We're gonna have some fun!

We're gonna have a good time!

    Let's roll!

    Ah boogie!

    All night long.

    Yeah!

Rockin' little woman be my pal,

    Gotta beep bop boo.

    Gotta deek dock doo.

    You gotta love, love,

Love ya baby little lotta gee dow dow,

    Yeah c'mon!

Yeah, wait a minute, wait a minute,

Wait a minute, wait a minute,

Wait a minute, wait a minute,

Wait a minute, wait a minute.

    Wait a minute.

    Now listen here people!

    I'm talkin' about

The death of rock and roll.

    And who killed it.

    I'm talkin' about the blues.

    I'm talkin' about the news.

Have you heard, have you heard,

    Have you heard the word?

    Rock is dead.

    Rock is dead.

    Rock is dead.

Now I didn't want to be the one

To lay it on ya, sweetheart.

But I used to be a little fellow traveller.

I used to think we had the whole thing

    Sewed up, momma.

    Then I realized,

Rock and roll is dyin', baby.

    I wanna see some fun.

I wanna see some hanging out.

    I wanna see my people

    Non-political,

    Arithmetical,

    Transcendental,

    Irathamadental,

    Coolambindang-bopalooka-nimbow.

    Are you ready?

    Are you ready?

    Are you ready?

Are you ready to sing the blues, my baby?

    Yeah,

    I like it real slow,

    I like it real bad,

I like to get myself together.

I love to hear you get undressed.

    Naked woman,

    Out of doors.

    I don't care,

    How loud you snore.

    Sun go down,

    Way out on the sea,

    Here she comes,

Little girl, gonna set me free.

    Alright c'mon,

    Now, one more time!

    Yeah...

    Train arrive,

    Sixteen coaches long.

    Train arrive,

    Sixteen coaches long.

    Well I got my baby,

Gonna get on that train and run, yeah.

    Well that big black train

    Gonna get my baby.

    Big black train.

    Yeah, the big black train

    Gonna get my love,

    Gonna take her,

    gonna hug her,

    Gonna,

    Whoa...

    Gonna love, love, love,

    Love a diggow, yeah.

    Big black train.

    Now when I got home

    I heard my daddy say,

    "You want a little peace?

Do you want a little peace?

Do you want a little soul?

Do you want a little soul?

Do you want a little soul?"

    I could not help myself.

    I could not help myself.

    I could not help myself.

    I could not help myself.

    I could not help!

    Help!

    Help!

    I'm dyin'!

    I'm dyin'!

    I'm dyin'!

    I'm dyin'!

    I'm dyin'!

    I'm die, die...

    Digga digga dooh dah, whoa!

    It's over.

    It's over.

    It's over.

    Have mercy!

    Have mercy!

Have mercy on your poor son!

    We had some good times.

We had a few good times.

    But those good little times,

    You know where they are?

    They're absolutely, positively

    Under the ground.

    And...

As long as I got breath,

    The death of rock

    Is the death of me,

    And rock is - dead!

    Well, we're dead!

    Alright!

    Yeah...

  2. Pet0: the reason u still hear crap rock despite their influence is that taking someone elses format doesn’t garuntee u have the talent to pull it off.

Igyhi: what’re u talking about? Its not just of cobains death, they were a multi-platinum phenomenon in music, both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Their lyrics were either whiney shit or didn’t make sense huh? Ok, whiney shit, rock n roll is based on the blues, rhythm n blues…so take away the rhythm and u got the lament of the blues. Its half of the genre and as far doesn’t make sense well I dunno about you, when things don’t make sense to me initially I actually deem that a lacking in myself and go out to of my way to understand it…maybe the fault is in your understanding, its ur job to interpret, u can’t cite that as a shortcoming on Kurts part.

Luvaxlforever: ur not kurt, u weren’t there, u don’t know how he felt anymore than I do so u can’t pass judgement on him for being a selfish asshole cuz u don’t know squat about the situation, no one really does but ol’ Kurt.

Jochen: why is he praised as a guitar god? See, people don’t get this a lot on this forum so im gonna break it down a little. Being a great guitarist doesn’t necessarily mean that u can do textbook solo’s that last for 20 minutes and other such stuff, it could just mean u make a fresh inventive sound that is hard to duplicate. I’ve said this before here but listen to the guitars of Keith Levene, specifically on the Public Image Limited album Metal Box (or Second Edition) now that, to me is great guitar playing cuz it’s fresh and inventive…people like kurt alter formats, Thurston Moore too is in that kurt vein of experimentation. Its alternative music (or was meant to be, I don’t quite see it that way) don’t expect loooooong solo’s and that kinda stuff cuz it’s not what the musics about…don’t mean they’re incapable of em it just means that they choose not too…there are certain rare practise sessions u can get of kurt where he shows that he can pull that shit off but it just didn’t interest him, he didn’t wanna float down that same old stream merrily, he wanted to break ground. He always said of In Utero that for nirvana it was the last chapter in 3 chord rock n roll and from then on they were gonna do something REALLY different. Just didn’t get a chance. Whats so great about his lyrics? The fact that u hafta go out of ur way to understand them as opposed to havin’ it laid out on a plate for ya. The fact that he evokes amazing imagery with his words and odd parallels that paint an interesting and thought provoking picture. A mosquito, my libido? Ok, how about the great degree of bands on the planet that make their woah woah yeah’s and yeah-hee-yeah and ooooohs…something Axl is really guilty of. Listen to most of his lyrics, quite thought provoking actually.

Nirvana are quite probably the greatest band rock n rolls seen in a LONG time. for two simple reasons...honesty, passion.

    oh, and Boogie Down Productions

    EPMD

    De La Soul

shit..theres too many, hip hop fuckin rules...(or ruled?)

  4. this is the very same man who refused to have an interview on johnny rottens tv show Rotten TV for the following reasons "i only do interviews with people i know of" despite writing a song with the lyrics:

"the king is gone but hes not forgotten, this is the story of Johnny Rotten"

that pretty much sums up Old Man Young for me...besides which his skewed bob dylan/frank zappa incest music doesn't do it for me...

funnily enough, Axl refused the interview too...citing "studio time" as his reason. along with aknowledging that johnny rotten is one of his "main vocal influences".

  5. what i feel is of no account...its an a to b thing, he wants to rape/kill her...he does it. my reaction is outside of the point/equation. do i think they SHOULD do it? thats judgement, not my job...thats the rapists/murderers perogative, what i want doesn't influence the thought-process of an outside entity. i can't really, be flippant about such a subject and...guesstimate, i'd hafta be in the situation because each situation is different, reality is very specific. aside from which my mothers dead and im not married.

  6. Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana.

"Punk Rock should mean freedom, liking and accepting whatever u want, playing whatever u want, as sloppy as u want, as long as its good and it has passion" Kurt Cobain aka God.

  7. i think his point is that the beatles weren't malicious in their drugs use...taking drugs u hurt urself, not other people...besides which they were "expanding their conciousness", something i believe drugs do and even if they dont it was naivety on their part, not stupidity, where as murder etc is just a moral crime....personallly, im all for both! :) lol if u think it's right, go for it, don't supress anythin ever...

  8. nah, i must say, i do like a bit of insane revolt...maybe they're acting on something they believe to be true...however surreal it may seem to me or u...go for it dude, if u think its right...just dont blame me when u get the proverbial stake crammed in ur ass.

  9. the beatle probably did touch more but...where that does have a LOT to do with the music, i think a lot of it is about just luck...they were the right band at the right time with the right look....like elvis, there were a million better rock n rollers than him but he'll always be the king...people in those days were...creating, every step they made was a step forward...they were so pioneering because up until then so little had been done in the progression of popular music/rock n roll...it was a young and exhuberant art form...so u can't put it all down to the genius of john paul george and ringo.

i dunno if it's negative though, it's just energy...as long as ur alive and creative i'd say thats positive enough...people...see negativity in things that aint really there

e.g. WILD example, Nirvana trashing their stage after a set...a lotta people saw this in the media as encouraging violence or making violence look cool, destruction...negativity...if ur gonna get all subliminal and abstract about it, destruction breeds creation, the big bang, an explosion, is typically a destructive force yet responsible for the creation of our everything. besides, its just fun, it's passion, its climax...anger is an energy (quote, john lydon) it's not necessarily negative. i totally agree with the trying too hard bit...a lotta the stuff cited here is outside of metal anyway, metal is like Judas Priest...ur getting a lot into the gothy end with i think is a pathetic vagueness of a genre with no real...definition to speak of...a definition that seems to mean nothing. it was pretty much invented as a genre by Siouxsie Sioux anyway and she was punk (goth that is, not metal).

  10. i think metal has entirely too many divisions and a lotta scary talk but not a lotta scary follow thru...too much phoney image pedalling...if they went out and lived it a little more, then it'd be cooler...

  11. i despise the beatles but i do recognise their FUCKING IMMENSE contribution to contemporary music...what amuses me to the extreme is how, people who diss the beatles diss them for being simple and pop. uh, have we been listening to the same albums? even fans of the beatles, people r supposed to have knowledge of the band, seem to be defending them based on the "simple & pop" criteria...have u heard abbey road, the white album, revolver, sgt peppers? these are not entirely simple and pop tracks. they were to begin with, but so was rock n roll...always has been, listen to the stuff that influenced the beatles, its simple music, it's just how u play it, the stance, attitude etc. the beatles entire album output is like a timeline of the evolution of rock n roll...it hasn't really gone too far beyond what was laid down in their blueprint.

i dislike em cuz i think they contradicted themselves in ideology, i actually quite enjoy the music, plus i am always wary of things that are like, granted as good. the beatles r like the royal family of rock n roll and that kinda thing always warrants closer inspection. plus my sister is a fan and i had it forced down my throat at an early age otherwise who knows, i coulda loved em. also, i was kinda...raised in the snotty punk rock "fuck the beatles, fuck the stones, fuck the who" attitude which i grew up to understand as mere predudice but...i genuinely don't like em too much anyway....

    "imagine nooo possessions"

yes john, ur one of the most richest entertainers in the world, please don't insult us (not a beatles track, i know)

and metal touches people in a way possibly beyond the beatles....the beatles r a band, lotsa people like em as with metal BUT...take ur metal fan, u can (generalising here) see a metal fan coming, a true blue metal fan, its a way of thinking, it's a way of looking its...influential to tons of facets in a persons life. beatles fans are kinda ambiguous...the point im tryna make is that metal is like a lifestyle, a mettallar or a punk or whatever...the whole beatles angle doesn't progress much further than mere entertainment (although i wouldn't've been sayin that in the 60s). flat out music-wise? its kinda unfair to compare one band to a whole movement wouldn't u say? personally, i think metal died with Alice Cooper, he took it about as far as it could go into its own self parody. listen to GG Allin, thats extreme.

  12. talent = something that u r capable of that no one else is...and thats ALL it is, everyone is talented more or less, doesn't mean dick...and i'd say spearheading a revolution in contemporary music counts as a talent....wheres rick wakeman been post pistols?

  13. drummers are good based on a lot of factors, topper headon by virtue of the fact that he could play just about ANY style of music...listen to his work, then judge

"try listenin to music other than GnR" yeeeeeees, cuz topper headon was in both those bands wasn't he? lol sorry sorry, whoose the moron? remind me...

  14. i wanna stuff dynamite up my ass, shoot up, light the fuse and jump off the grand canyon so theres nothing left for a funeral...fuck that false morbid lying bullshit.

"he was a good person, he'll be sorely missed"

although i guess u don't specifically need a corpse for the ceremony...

  15. krissirge....u should check out GG Allin.

and uh, 90s band? does that mean to say a band that came to being in the 90s or came to prominence in the 90s or just were around in the 90s? i didn't think gnr were a 90s band....but yeah, prolly nirvana for me.

  16. more black: u want me to describe why the sex pistols r the greatest rock n roll band in the world ever? I could really go on for millenia on that subject but simply put they're the most orignal, thought-provoking, relevant, defiant, decisive, honest, passionate, intense musical attack that i ever knew...they're the most controversial band too, the most influential, changed like....god knows how many facets of popular culture, total trailblazers...fresh new and relevant and a total relief from bands like Yes, ELP, Uriah Heep, Gong, The Small Faces, and other bands that im gonna refrain from mentioning cuz its just gonna turn this whole thing into a replica of a thread i started before that got locked lol
