  1. I love Slash and it's amazing he can solo for 30 mins and I get that there's an audience for that, but, in my opinion after 5-10 minutes the soloing gets kinda boring when you're watching a show.

A good show is like a good movie. You might have material for a 3 hour experience, but trimming it down to 2 - 2.5 hours might make it more impactful for audience. The age old wisdom of quality over quantity.

But then again, Guns N' Roses is pretty much a synonym for excess :D

  2. Shackler's intro riff sounds a bit like Korn's Good God, but other than that, I don't hear any resemblance with Korn. Not that I would mind, because I'm a Korn fan. That aggressive bridge part of Better sounds a bit like Korn too.

As NIN fan I have to say that Shackler sounds nothing The Hand That Feeds. When it comes to composition at least. On ChiDem there's some metal/nu metal/alternative moments (mostly with guitar tones), but it's more like a hard rock ballad record with excessive production. I don't think there is actually a word or a genre that can describe ChiDem. It's a good album, but it is not for everyone.

  3. Dj comes off a little bit fake-ish or poser-y, but all in all he did an ok job when he was with Gn'R. Towards the end of his tenure he started to get a bit sloppy, but I don't see why hating him is so cool on this forum. He ain't no Slash or Robin Finck (who I think is a true artist, outside of Gn'R), but what he does with his solo stuff ain't that bad. At least half of Sixx AM is actually enjoyable.  I think he is ok.

  4. 1. Nick Raskulinecz - He did a great job on Korn's latest album. Also Alice in Chains' last album, which sounds great, was produced by him. I feel like he is really good at enhancing the essence of a band and knows how to capture that essence on tape.
    2. Brendan O' Brien - Well, he is Brendan O'Brien.
    3. Rick Rubin - Sabbath's 13 sounded great, probably my favorite Sabbath album after Paranoid. But Slash and Duff might not be willing to work with him after the VR's second album thing.

  5. Locomotive outro. I remember listening to it years ago on a freezing and dark friday morning during the winter (I live in Finland) and the city lights were creating this eerie ambience and then the piano kicked in... I can't really describe how cool and urban-y melancholic that outro sounded, at that moment.

Actually, like MyPrettyTiedUpMichelle said, better than sex. That whole description was spot on!

  6. It's about time these corporate sell-outs (Axl, Slash, Duff) really piss off their fanbase! That would be refreshing. There's fucking Gn'R net casino games and Gn'R Funko Pops! Dj being back in the band or doing something with Axl isn't nearly as bad as whoring your bandname and putting it on every goddamn product available. And Dj is also a corporate sellout, so he would fit right in!

Dizzy's song is more "listenable" because it has basic stuff like rhythm, groove, etc, even though it appears -- at first listen -- to be the ultimate generic rock song. Axls album is almost unlistenable because it lacks all of that, because the songs go nowhere and because the best singer ever decided to -- or had to -- change his voice so drastically that he became the most annoying singer ever in the process (with the exception, of course, of bono, myles k, the coldplay guy, bono, the green day guy, barbra streisand and bono)

If you want to listen to a fun rock song and have good time, have a few drinks, Dizzys song may not really work -- unless you are drunk, of course. For that, good songs -- like Guns n Roses songs -- are perfect.

And if you want some albums that 3 decades later are still interesting and filled with emotional and thought-provoking great songs, then GNR albumS take the cake. They are great albums. At least that's how I see it.

its pretty bizarre and you notice there is something really fucked up when a completely generic rock song from the biggest yes man in the music business is actually waaaaaaaay more listenable than the entire solo album of the guy who happens to be your favorite singer ever

They are different kind of projects for different kind of moods. At least that's how I see it.

  9. Not sure if trolling or delusional? Fortus "blowing the entire world away"? I dig the guy and he IS a great player, but come on...

He is a great live guitarist and a great session musician and I don't doubt there's new Fortus-fans and it's cool that people appreciate his skills, but I'm pretty sure no one thinks he is a king of anything, let alone a legend.
