Dizzy's rocknroll piano is an important part of the UYI sound. I love it.
Everything else, apart from the core members' instruments, is abundant in my view.

Frank sets the tempo om f.ex. Rocket Queen, while Slash sets the tempo on f.ex. SCOM.
Playing songs faster live is very normal, due to energy/adrenaline levels etc.
To people on here thinking they have "decided" to play faster: that's not the case.
-
SCOM isn't full on Mickey. He's better now than ever since 2000.
But Slash needs to calm it down a bit from the intro. Too fast.

Axl is really singing good at the moment. Even great. He will get better, and by the looks of it, he is currently very healthy and will drop a pound a week in the future.
Hence, he will get even better and better.
He has already proven that he is really into it this time. He means business.

They're on fire tonight.
Axl's voice is amazing - they absolutely bring out the best in each other.
The chemistry is totally there - as if it was 25 years ago.
And Axl is looking fitter and fitter, sounding more and more confident.
I think in a couple of months, he can move around A BIT and still sound great.

Sorum is the real deal. Frank is too experimental.

We don't have enough evidence yet. From what I've read though, nobody in the audience has been anything but in awe of the performance as a whole. Axl's as well.
He is in ok shape. And if he is on a diet and training regime, his physique will only get better week by week.
Anyway, in my view, it's clear that he means business this time. But he has already conquered the world, so that maniac angry behavior that pumped adrenaline through his body and made him jump tall fences voicewise is gone.

Was it old school KOHD? I haven't seen an answer yet...!

Stop this guys. He is The BEST.
Also, from what I've read, he has a defibrillator. Not a pace maker.

It bothers me zero. But if I could choose, I'd want a man.
Why are people talking about showing true colors? Having a woman in GnR has never been an issue, so I doubt that people have pretended like they were alright with having a woman.

Oh my god!!!!! I don't know who is more crazy? The middle east or us westerners?!?!
1. It has absolutely fucking NOTHING to do with sexism wanting GnR to be an all-male band, as it has always been. I didn't know so many of you "rockers" on here were married to or involved with feminists that keep you on a leash... FUCK OFF
2. She is just a stand-in. I'm sure of it. I guess it means Pitman is in. Maybe he's I'll or something. She not a MEMBER of the band. I can tell you that.
Oh, and did I get my point across? This is not The Bangles.

Not at all. This was just a rehearsal.

I envy the lucky fuckers that joined this board in the last few months. Ten years of your lives have been spared.

They have always tuned a half step down. Makes the sound more "hard rock".

I don't know but it is a dumb one.. All 5 of the originals were important and Izzy is far more important than Duff ever was.
That's one of many accepted half-truths. Ask most musicians in bands, and they'll tell you that the rhythm section is really what makes them tick. Bass and drums are the foundation on which to build on.
I don't think Izzy was more important than Duff. They had different roles. Izzy brought a certain spice to the mix, but so did punk-Duff.
Izzy wrote more songs maybe, but god knows who discovered the riffs first; Izzy or Slash.

Guns N Roses was the biggest spectacle/event in the rock world back then.
I remember it very well.
That said, GnR wasn't the biggest gig around. That was Michael Jackson. He was almost from a different world.
That said, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the rest of the BIG bands that occupied the vacuum created by GnR's break-up and Metallica's decline, were not even in the same division back in the early 90s.
GnR was on their way to becoming the next Stones, like f.ex. Ozzy O. has said several times.
Personally, I have never fallen for the Whole "grunge took over" thing. I think that what happened, was that when the KING(s), GnR (and perhaps Metallica) fell away, the rock scene took a new direction, or rather; it split.
Aerosmith and Bon Jovi somewhat took over the mainstream rock market again, while several new directions hit the ground running. Nirvana was AS MUCH a product of this, as it was their own brilliance. Punk rock began eating its way into the mainstream, With bands like Greenday and The Offspring. Britpop/Britpop also got its Renaissance, with Oasis at the culprit, followed by f.ex. Blur and Pulp.
Hip hop became more and more mainstream as well, so the whole industry was changing. Gone were the 80s hair bands and synth pop. This was a new beginning.
Nirvana was, indeed, the biggest alternative underground band ever, and became world famous quite quickly when they took off. However, they were mere kings in a portion of a once much larger country, now divided.
Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna(?), and to a degree GnR (and maaaaaybe Metallica) were virtually on top of the world.
IMHO, nobody has been since.

I much prefer that 2011 version to the 1992 version. Some reasons:
- Too much rasp and push in Axl's voice that make it sound like some caeicature. It is just VERY grating. This is the exact reason why people overlook his amazing range and voice control when they dismiss him as a horrible singer with a horrible voice.
- Bumblefoot played the solos much better than Slash. Tone aside, Slash was less gentle in his bend and tone tarnssitions leading to plenty of very short pitchy notes, or notes verging on being picthy. He was also much rougher with his attacks and tremolo. Bumblefoot plays much more more smoother making it sound more professional.
- The overall band is tighther and the sound is more fleshed out.
- Axl looks even more ridiculous in 1992 than in 2011.
The main problem with the 2011 version is the Axl's thin voice ("helium") in the outtro. I don't need him to sing it with lots of rasp, just with a much fatter voice. I think many people are confusing this aspect of his tone quality with raspiness.
Luckily, you belong to the small minority.
Your statements make me feel that you don't really "get it" in regards to GnR.

Yes. I believe we are going to see a release of new material... 5-8 songs not including the one about to get released.
It is useless to throw around statements like this without any further information.
None of the other forums talk about this anyway, so where did you get it from?

Which brings me to the following follow-up:
Will they bring back the REAL Don't Cry, full blast?
(And please, the Illusion era KOHD)
DUFF (The King of Beers) McKAGAN -- Underrated Bassist?

What are you takling about? Even an amateur/hobby guitarist can play the bass if the want to adapt.
I am so sick and tired of metal heads thinking an abundance of notes equals good music. That's the biggest misconception of the metal head community. Less is more, more often than not.
I can guarantee you one thing: there are 6 year old asians AT THIS VERY MOMENT that would outplay both Mozart and Beethoven on a piano.
So many people get it all wrong. Being a song writer has nothing to do with being technically gifted.
