  1. Some people compare the current situation to the newGnR era. That's just ridiculous. This is huge. It's mainstream news.

GnR is like a blockbuster Scorsese movie, while newGnR era was like an indie movie that win prizes at obscure film festivals; loved by a few, meaningless to the majority.

The promotion must start sooner rather than later. Just a pic of them back together would get published in most newspapers in the industrial world. It takes zero effort.

  2. I had a dream last night about the first show.

    1. It ended after 9 songs. I don't remember why.

    2. They played Atlas Shrugged as the last song before the interruption.

If this happens, I'll be scared.

    LOL.

    On topic:

I have a feeling that Axl didn't do the Kimmel show because he wanted to loose a few more pounds and also be able to answer all the questions about line-ups, new music, tours etc.

I don't think he felt ready.

  3. If its age and partying, why is Steven Tyler retaining a lot of his old voice? He is waay older and partied just as much, and been to rehab lots of times.

that's steven's natural voice. the rasp/head/falsetto/chest blend that axl does is not his natural voice...it takes work. his real voice can be heard on patience or its so easy etc.

Kinda agree. But to hit the high notes with power/rasp takes exercise. Also for Steven Tyler. It's a muscle, you know.

Having good lungs/stamina is very important if you wanna keep that voice for a whole show.

And I think that's why Axl just rasps sporadically. He's out of breath.

I think he will come back in shape?

  4. This seems to be the million dollar question everybody is avoiding.

Remember that one of the biggest reasons for the initial split, were different opinions on which musical direction to pursue after the UYI albums.

Slash wanted to stay in the AFD-direction, while Axl's vision was different. He was the main mastermind behind the grandios UYI-era - some will say in a negative way - but he wanted it BIG. I love him for that, coz it's like Liam Gallagher of Oasis comments on todays music industry: "nobody wants to be fuckin' Elvis anymore".

    Well, Axl did.

Anyway, to me, GnR is awesome hard rock, combined with southern rock (is that the right term?) and epic masterpieces. With Slash's signature guitar and Axl's superb lyrics, it was perfect. Back then, that is.

Axl then wanted to go in an industrial direction. (Why on earth???)

    Slash hated the idea.

20 years later they're back together. Duff as well.

Has Axl gone back to his musical roots, or have Slash and Duff swallowed a couple of camels just to get back in what, yet again, could be the biggest band out there.

  5. I do not think Frank Ferrer fits the classic GnR sound at all. He over-does it in the wrong places. His fills are terrible. Adler plays rock n roll, but Sorum is a fucking drum machine. His playing is perfect; tight and consistent.

Sorum is the obvious choice for me. Both because of the sound and the fact that his chemistry with the rest of the rhytm section is fantastic and has been that way since the band broke up.

  6. The important thing is obviously to get Axl, Slash and Duff back on stage together. And in the studio.

The songs would most likely sound like GnR, but it would surprise me a lot if they can still come up with blockbuster hits. Aerosmith did a nice job in the mid-90s, but mainly through power ballads. I think a song like "Pink" in the Aerosmith universe and "Love is strong" in the Stones universe would be quality-wise the type of songs they would make nowadays.

BUT, and there's a big BUT here, GnR has a huge vault. They could probably make two albums from that. With Slash and Duff making them all GnR-songs. Not like Chinese at all.

A song like Jackie Chan/Checkmate, would be a true GnR-rocker if they made a riff to it instead of the power chords.

  7. I'll go to England this summer if this proves to be right...

This is my first post in years. Speaks volumes about the current optimism.

Even my non-GNR friends mentions this reunion. It's gone mainstream.

Axl is also "on a strict" diet, according to Slash's brother. Why would he care so much about his weight and condition all of a sudden? If it wasn't to run about on stage and snakedance as much as possible for a 50+ man.

I truly think Axl would put a 110% effort into it. His personal pride never really shone through in New GnR.

  8. It's so sad to get these insights into the Lebeis/Axl-camp. It makes Axl sound like a retard. Camp Beta shields Axl from the real world? It's all a joke! Talk about being surrounded by yes-men. No wonder there is no new music.

What can possibly be so fucked up in Axl's mind that he can't take a bit of controversy? WOW! This sounds incredible. Axl is truly a musical genious, but he is also one of the most fragile souls on earth it seems. And mentally - in some aspects - he's still a kid.

It honestly sounds like Camp Beta is a second option to a home for lunatics.

I love Axl and I truly wish him all the best, but being a "normal" guy myself, with a job and family and hobbies and a normal budget, this whole circus only alienates me from what should be our main concern: Axl's musical talent.

Ah yes, the Madison incident. One of the more entertaining moments in MyGNR history. Madison was like the female version of the Comic Book Guy, lording over her one little dominion in the world with a smugness and arrogance rivaled by few. Didn't she once claim that Axl personally told her backstage what the name of the first single from CD would be, and then refused to tell anyone the name of the song? Kind of summed up her whole persona.

I was in contact with Madison a few times over my first few years here. She came across as a nice person and a big fan. Never was she arrogant or selfish.

There are more clowns on this forum these days than five years ago. I guess the people who bash Madison are the same people who couldn't add 2+2 and conclude that MSL is a gem rather than an enemy.

    Sad.

  9. How much effort would it cost to record a little christmas gift for the millions of fans?

It's funny how many people don't agree with me as fans, yet all the other band members would rather have it my way.

  10. I've been coming to this board for several years and I believe I'm one of the seniors on here. Back in 2005 we were all so excited and optimistic. Many alike me on here used to be invaluable members and could only be described as die-hards. Madison, Username, Kaneda etc etc.

But after many years in limbo and ultimately disappointments, many have lost touch with the band. The so-called Nu GnR fans on here have become - in my view - the dominant force. Stupid morons more interested in technical ability than musicality. I guess they all hate The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Elton John, AC/DC etc etc etc. Jerks.

    Anyway, my point is this.

People seem divided on whether Axl/GnR actually OWES us anything. In my opinion OF COURSE they do. We put food on their tables, a car in their garage etc etc. Without its fans, a band or a football club is nothing. If you treat your fans badly, they might not quit being a fan, but does that make it right to beat the shit out of a kid because "he doesn't tell on you"?

If the willingness to meet the fanbase's wish was just a little bit bigger than it is today, no one would complain.

Only Axl Rose refuses to do so. How about just recording a studio jam on the fly in a studio a couple of times a year? Then release it through their website. By NO MEANS Axl, would it have to be an "official release". Just record it and call it "Cocksucker Blues" or whatever. And PLEASE, do stress that it was made in a hurry and that years of over-production was therefore impossible.

A song like "Used to love her" could easily surface from such a session, and the Lies-songs were indeed made at least halfway like that.

Is it so hard for a musical group to string a song together every now and then? Just a little teaser until the next masterpiece record is ready to drop?

I guess it's hard for some of the newer fans to appreciate my views, but I think they're brainwashed by the musical genious that is Axl Rose.

I'll never stop admiring Axl and Guns n Roses. They will forever be my favorite band.

But things gotta change. I know they won't, because we've been saying these exact words for many YEARS, and that is as far as I'm concerned unacceptable.

I, for one, demand one tenth of the respect I have for this band to be returned.

    Happy New Year.

  11. I remember my own first impressions on the new songs back when they were played live and then leaked. "Street of dream" would have been their best shot at the general public, simply because it's melodic, somewhat GnR-ish and great. Personally I got a bit tired of it a few years ago, but it would still have been the obvious single from that album.

Those who think TWAT would have made a great single are totally naive. Potential as a classic, yes, but no single after a 15 year hibernation.

  12. And you're right, something did feel a bit off with Axl and Izzy not being there. But they chose to miss the event, the others chose to show up. If something didn't feel right, wasn't Slash's fault.

I agree with your whole post but I quoted this part because it stood out to me. It's true. Slash seems to be getting most of the blame with Steven not too far behind.

Duff is getting off easy. I haven't seen a single post criticizing him for showing up/performing. He is the mutually loved member between the people who chose sides (Axl or Slash).

I really don't know why people are criticizing them for performing in the first place. My only problem with that gig was the singer, seriously, I wasn't expecting Axl, but come on! Myles? I could make a list with better singers.

As for the "showing up" thing, I didn't want anybody to show up, RHOF doesn't deserve Gn'R, but it's not like I'm gonna start hating them for showing up.

So tell me kid, why don't the RHOF deserve GnR? It's an honour for legendary bands. And while you - some stupid internet fan - is sitting at home making excuses for yourself and Axl, the likes of Green Day and Rolling Stones members embrace the event like a worthy ceremony. Why don't you give Ron Wood a call and tell him how stupid the RHOF actually is.

  13. I think new music is 50-50. But I have always said/thought that a new album would coincide with the american tour. The band hinted at that some time ago as well. Well, THAT didn't happen, but according to their plans, I think new music is overdue.

I have a feeling that the "new" website has something to do with new music. Could be wrong, but I don't think the band will announce a record release well in advance this time around. They don't need more leaks.

  14. Taken from the other forum , thanks to Estebanf :

    Estranged :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfIZr_z_K4w

Gotta admit that I'm quite impressed! Let's hope we get some pro-shot material sooner rather than later. The RIR concert was probably just a working accident due to the conditions etc. Guns rock again! Now go take the US by storm and release the next record according to plan.

Mind you, there is no doubt that they wanted a US tour to coincide with the next release. Lets hope they're ready.

  15. Ashba is a very important member IMO. Both on-stage and off-stage. He is our link to the past and our hope for the future.

Speaking about guitarists, Ron does a great job on Estranged, but Slash' magic was that he was imperfect. THAT, Ron can never be.

  16. Buckethead is prolific as far as music creation in ways that DJ can't even fathom. If he couldn't get Axl motivated enough to finish and release music, then color me skeptical that Ashba is going to suddenly get Axl to open the flood gates.

I find comments like this annoying.

We get it. You like Buckethead more than Ashba. And yes, Bucket is one of the most technically gifted players in the world.

    Fine.

But I'm pretty sure that Ashba is much easier to work with. He could prove to be Axl's "normalizer". Do you think Mozart and Beethoven could have collaborated? I don't.

IMO, Ashba is the perfect rock n roller. He's got the attitude, looks and feel, but he is also hard-working and productive. I think Axl really appreciates him and realizes that they perhaps (hopefully) fullfill each other.

  17. At least has a good solo. But what if everyone here opening a thread like this ,dont make sense to me, ex."Why do people like Scrapped?","Why do people like Prostitute?","Why do people like The blues".nah. :sleeper: :sleeper:

Probably because we have absolutely nothing else to talk about with the band hibernating again.

why do people like the album period.

Because it is leagues better than anything else out in mainstream music today.

I have been a Guns-ONLY fan for 18 years, but I think 21st Cenctury Breakdown by Greenday and the latest Foo Fighters album are better than Chinese Democracy. For all you morons out there who think advanced, technical geek-music is COOL because "Slash can't play it", listen to Foo Fighters. They understand that they can't abandon the good melody in order to show off. Still, it's quite complicated.
