  1. I met Phil after an L.A. Guns show a few years ago - he's a very nice guy.

He's a nice chap, very respectful of other singers, when he is not being sarcastic

The first two LA Guns albums were great

I'd say the first three..."Hollywood Vampires" is awesome as well.

Is the third album the one with Crystal Eyes? Memories bad haha. For me that album was like Cinderella's Heartbreak Station, a couple of good tracks, but not a great album end to end.

  2. Money is still publicly linked to the forum. We still have member and non member scenarios

Allow everything for everyone and be done with it.

Sponge the cost, and allow private donations.

That was the model that ran for many years and it didn't work. Moreover, with this now being a non-profit forum, how would proceeds be distributed? Should those who donated receive better odds at contests and giveaways? Should someone who donates $100 receive more chances to win than someone who donates $5? And let's say we are, at some point, are able to secure some form of lucrative third-party advertising and we all decide to pay ourselves rather than fund various fan ventures? How do we determine who gets what?

Donations were essential to the survival of this forum prior to me becoming owner. They no longer are needed as we have made, and will continue to make, efforts to bring costs inline with usage and revenues.

The point of a one-time flat membership fee is so that those who want a deeper and more extensive experience at the forum are all treated as equals. Allowing for differentiation of support based on donation amounts is not a path I want to pursue.

Fair to disagree, but this will be the modus operandi going forward.

It is better. I can see you have equalised the members, that will help a great deal if you want to go down that road

I see a simpler way forward. Set up a paypal for -anonymous- donations, and get rid of all this paid membership hoohaa completely. People that have paid historically are not going to have to pay with your new idea, so how much are you going to make, realistically; is it worth the work or hassle? I say, trust in the decency of people.

If you are wanting competition prizes, bring people to the site with great ideas, then contact radio stations, the band, the band members etc.. who I am sure will be happy to give away stuff if you do something for them. Get someone on the forum to do some marketing.

We are not wanting to be a year down the road, something bad happens, all of a sudden you are needing your money back from the forum, your membership thing has not worked etc.. All of a sudden everything goes pear shaped again etc..

At the end of the day, it is a forum and it has to be fun for you to run, so the simpler it all is, the better. Alot of older members still read here, but do not post because of the way the forum has changed in recent times. The new members though are fair and fine, you just have to get to know them. Is there a way you can integrate old and new? I vaguely read your museum idea, and I believe that would be one great road to go down. But, the forum has to be free and equal with no division, apart from the banter on the forum, of course.

I get that I tend to post in a forthright manner like a Spanish Inquisition party. All it is though is food for thought in a Jiminy Cricket kind of way. You know what I'm like :)

I wish you good luck though.

Thanks for your feedback. I asked for all suggestions and criticsms so no worries about being upfront with your opinions.

Personally, I don't see the plan we put forward as something that requires a tremendous amount of work. So I'm not too concerned on that front.

In terms of getting greater participation with the band, that's an unlikely proposition considering the band has its own forum and fan club. I've reached out as the new owner to the band and its management with ideas on how to better the fan experience and have been given the cold shoulder. I'd love for contributions, but as it stands now, it doesn't look likely no matter how attractive I make it for the band.

While I understand concerns relating to cash flow, I can guarantee that many of the problems that threatened the survival of this forum previously have been overcome. When I became a mod and later an admin, Subs charged me with formulating a plan for putting the forum on a better footing. I did that, however, I came to the realization that it would take a lot of work and I wasn't sure i wanted to put that kind of commitment in without being the owner. Since purchasing the forum, the team and myself have been making the necessary changes to put money issues behind us. As a result, this forum will never depend on the charity of others for its survival.

The membership idea is based on the notion that some visitors on this forum want to be involved in both the fan experience and the business of this forum to a greater level than others. The members lounge attempts to deepen, but not broaden, access to this forum and being a GNR fan. If a visitor has no interest in contributing to a MYGNR cover or contributing questions to upcoming interviews or included in the contests, they'll still have access to all areas of discussion, which is the most important product this forum offers. Moreover, and feel free to disagree, I believe the most active posters (i.e. Those most likely to sign up) should get more in return for their contributions to the forum than those who only lurk and post very little. This is why I think buying into the program is an important component of what we're trying to do here. Just as there are casual and hardcore GNR fans, there are also casual and hardcore forum users. For the hardcore faithful, we offer a deeper experience and a cut of the forum profits through contests and activities that I think is worth the token financial contribution.

Anyway, I don't expect everyone to initially support this plan, as I accept the fact that it may not be for everyone. But I believe it's the right call based on my reading of what this forum cand and should be. Ultimately I want this to serve as the fan club fans have long deserved but have never received. It will be fan driven where all the benefits will be returned to the fans.

The great thing is, you can experiment with your idea for a while and see what comes of it No harm can come from it at all

I think the main thing is, don't be worried about changing ideas as you go. They key thing is to make sure you are enjoying what you are doing

  3. But, is it usual to trademark a DVD title or tour name?

After some research I've found that you simply can't trademark an album name. Not sure about a music DVD, but logic says that the same rules apply there.

Mysteron, what do you mean by new process regarding the band name?

I worked with The Quireboys, Thunder, The Almighty, Little Angels, Atom Seed etc. When you have a name in one country, you have to register it in other countries. There is a process.

With the ICs, 041 is live performance, 009 is DVD or CD. That is what they mean

The "IC" code stands for International Class code right?

It covers as you say entertainment (cultural activities), which in this case are live performances, and reproduction of sound or images.

If it is indeed a name for a tour and subsequently a cd and DVD release from that tour, I can see that this is covered in the above categories.

Since you've worked with bands, is it normal to trademark the name of a tour?

GNR haven't done it before. I've searched other band's tours as well, and nothing came up.

Bands attempt trademark things all the time, but they very often fail

Seems like Axl's came through. He only needs to fill out the Statement of Use.

I was just asking about the tour and DVD trademark since Axl hasn't got any trademarks from before, aside from Guns N Roses.

I mentioned that you can't trademark an album title, but isn't it true that you could if it's a series of albums called the same (vol 1, 2, 3 etc.)?

    Could that be a possibility?

I am reasonably confident it is a live release of sorts, whatever it is. Not a band name or an album

The whole endeavour though is forward thinking and the means the band are functioning and pushing forward with ideas and releases.

You get muddy boots the longer you go on, it is why alot of bands split. Seeing this, whatever it is, represents something good, something positive.

Like I said, muddy boots, everything is slow and difficult, but the intention is there. And if it was there June last year, it means there is intention for this year as it takes a year for these things to process.

    All good

  5. I think the sound quality is superb. It's simply an album that doesn't work very good at low volume.

    The dynamics are impressive.

You are right. It is superb.

On the average stereo, in the car, or on headphones from a phone, it is too quiet.

The Ice and Fire is lost unless you have a country house and a hi spec stereo

  7. Saw this on a few other forums, thought it was an April fools joke, did some digging, and found out it's real....

So, what would Axl need a trademark for "Stay of Execution" for? It was filed in June 2014.... Maybe the next album? A new band? A book?

    http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=doc&state=4805:mg4zxk.14.1

Given the ICs, it is a live release. A DVD or cinema release.

I think the ICs cover everything for a band.

    - Music releases, both video and audio.

    - Live performances

    - Website with news, photos, videos and music

To me, this trademark is for a band name. It's been filed to be used in connection with the above things.

    Maybe

Based on the numbers, if I was a betting man, I would bet on a DVD or film release first, then possibly a tour moniker

The band name thing would be a new process I have never seen before if it does happen. We live and learn though

.. Or there is the possibility nothing will happen because of the legal process or Axl does not pursue the idea

  8. I think Chinese Democracy is a great album. There are a couple of Marmite songs, but overall it is a strong album.

For me, the mixing and mastering has been over tinkered far too much. Prostitute is not the fire and ice that Buckmaster heard, that we heard with the leaks, because the solos are too quiet. Catcher in the Rye wounds watery. Better is also diluted a little, earlier versions were cutting, scything almost; a real powerful song.

When the new album comes, the sound wars experimentalist who mastered CD needs to be sidelined. Go back to Sterling Sounds, get the album mastered as God intended.

  9. 2006 should have been very different. There was huge momentum for the new album, and for a long time, it was a very exciting time to be a GN'R fan.

Given all the build up, Merck tried to force Axl's hand late 2006, it didn't happen. Bye bye Merck.

Let's be fair and let's be clear though, all the Hammerstein stuff was down to Merck, and also alot of other exciting oddities. He was real decent to the forums, despite some quirkiness and mystery.

Even now, he is a big Axl fan and has nothing bad to say against him.

Just another chapter in the story that is GN'R.

  11. I wasnt gonna say anything, but for a little while GNR social media has been promoting Del James a lot. It has become weird, seriously. Today their Facebook shared a picture and wrote #FollowDelJames. What the hell? Are they aware that 99% of the people dont even know who Del James is? Why are they doing it? Is it Del James himself using the social media to promote himself? I honestly wouldnt be surprised.

Del James promotes GN'R and GN'R promotes Del James. They are intertwined

Your post is disrespectful towards DJ and the work he has done for GN'R.

  12. Seems like the current trend by top-tier music artists is to ditch the single and release an album all at once. Here's an article that outlines how artists like Drake and Beyonce have had success by forgoing the single:

    http://qz.com/367586/urban-artists-like-kendrick-lamar-are-saving-the-album-format/

This strikes me as the way to go with the next GNR album. Or maybe, this would have been the better approach when Chinese Democracy was released. Everyone and their grandmothers knew about GNR's long lost next album. I'd argue that releasing the song Chinese Democracy as a single (and the first single at that) sucked all excitement out of the release and dampened first week sales. Had people been forced to listen to the entire album, and hence expose themselves to the albums' better songs (Better, TWAT, Madagascar, Catcher), the album would have been better received.

So my question is whether GNR should forgo the single when it comes time to release their next album? Assuming the material is strong, would such an approach help endear the album to more fans?

I think there has to be something visual and online, earlier than the release of the new album.

I am enjoying the lead up to FNM's new album. I have listened and watched the new songs online. I am enjoying the trip there

  13. There is something between Dee and Axl. I think someone mentioned it a while ago, here or on another forum.

Dee, or one of his cohorts will probably read this thread, so it would be interesting to hear from the horse's mouth what the beef is.

    Dee played with Slash

Dee thought Axl should have showed up at RnR hall of games for the fans of GnR.

And Dee's last statement about hired guns.

Weird thing is that once you step away from the GnR forums, the large majority of people agree with Dee on both accounts.

Ahh, it'd be fun to hear from Dee or friends.

Maybe that could be a forum interview or project? It's informative for historical purposes.
