  1. I always wonder if the rift between Slash and Axl is overplayed too much, and Axl is merely trying to look forward and complete a journey with his current band over and above anything else, and does not want to (re)visit his past

You often hear of the ongoing rift between Simon and Garfunkel, and from Paul Simon's perspective, very often, he is all about focussing on the now and next

But even Simon & Garfunkel reunite every few years for a show or a few dates.

Because their relationship does not involve others.

  2. Me other half has got me into watching True Blood after I swore for years I would not watch it. The first season was actually quite good, a proper whodunnit. Just into the second season now with the strange women with the boars head.

  3. Safe to assume that all of us want more than what axl has given us since the formation of NuGnr.

But I was thinking..if you told me back in 1995 when you basically knew Gnr was over and you may never hear from Axl again, that we would have tours in 02, 06, 10 etc..and have CD in 2008, i honestly would have taken that and been very happy, so i am going to stop bitcin.

I am just curious if anyone else feels the same way?

It's never really bothered me either way, to be honest. Back in the 80s, there were some bands, like Def Leppard, who did take an age to record an album, so you just got into other bands. I think the only problem I have now, and I don't know if it is because I am older, the quality of albums (in their entirety) has declined. The 60s and 70s were rich with good albums, even the 80s and 90s had alot of good albums (including general pop music.). Now though, I listen to alot of albums but cannot get to the end of them.

  4. I remember seeing FNM at the Marquee in London in the late 80s and the beer tasted like shit there. I wonder if Mike defecated in the barrel :) That was a great night, the Marquee let me in barefooted, and one of the guys I was with got into a handbags at dawn fight with a group on 10 years old just before we went in and he got his glasses broke, so he was essentially blind for the whole gig which was interesting

  6. The problem I have with this rumor is the economics of it all. I can somewhat understand the label refusing to release another GNR album under Axl's desired time-frame ("we've got a show in two months, here you go - have this out before then"), but I have a difficult time accepting any notion that UMG would prevent the release of a GNR album in general. So few albums make money these days that labels need albums from bands who can move several hundred thousand units to subsidize their losses from other bands. The brand GNR can still move a million plus units internationally so why a label would refuse to release another disc by the band defies common sense.

If the label refused to release the next album simply because it didn't make logistical sense, I don't see why efforts weren't made to release it at other moments when GNR was about to tour. How long did we know of RIR4? I can't remember but I think everyone was given at least eight to ten months notice about that show. There would have been plenty of time to plan for a proper release then.

I would really advise against any attitude that wishes to place blame on the label for the lack of GNR material. Unless UMG is being run by bat-shit idiots who don't care about their personal or corporate bank accounts, there's no plausible explanation why a label would hold up a release.

What noone knows is the legal framework that underpinned the original release of GN'R. It is plausible that GN'R were required to, at least, present an album of new material within a certain timeframe.

What I would doubt is that the material was ready to go, because if you are a mastering engineer, then you are going to want that on your CV, whether the album has been released or not. Sterling Sound had CD on their mastering list years before it was released, even though GN'R chose Gateway in the end for the final master.

  7. 2006 is probably my favorite and least favorite year in GN'R history.

Favorite because of all the cool shit that happened: The leaks, the Hammerstein shows (getting to see the first one in person!), the festival shows and streams the rest of the year, all the buzz, all the excitement.

Last favorite because of what could have been: I really feel like 2006 was THE year to release the album. Because of all the things listed above, I think it would have had a much better reception.

Everything was set up for the album to appear. Alot of hard work went in, alot more would have happened.

    Nothing happened, then meltdown
