  1. Ahh, good subject.

This is going to be old school, but one of the Jet Set Willys, and one of the School Daze on the Spectrum I got near the end but never finished. I finished Manic Miner, but JSW was odd, couldn't figure it out.

I could clock Asteroids, then Gorf, Hypersports and Tron (hard game), then Pacman once someone told me the formula. I completed Space Ace and Dragons Lair back in the day at the arcade.

I never complete Final Fantasy 7 or Zelda, Ocarina of Time. Just because that is when I was in London and worked more, and moved onto other games.

It doesn't really work like that though does it - who you want me on your forum if I'd gone out of my way to get you or your spouse sacked from their job, or contacted your wife to tell her thing about you?

Or would you think I was a weirdo and remove me from your forum for your own safety and the safety of your members?

    Are you related?

Rather than changing the forum I would just give it up. Guns and TB are a band of arseholes and not worth supporting to be honest. They are also thoroughly boring - it isn't as if there is much to discuss? This doesn't mean a forum of (now former) Guns fans can produce discussions about other things such as about bands who actually release albums, films, politics and other things.

This is it though, fans become embittered and give up, and that is maybe what they are wanting.

At the moment, there is a common thing about YouTube takedowns, whatever it is, these places have to endure and find a way forward. To be fair to the band, they are still active and will probably remain active. My point is, if they are disconnecting from the forums, there are ways of making it more interesting. Social media is full of flakey folk that will disappear.

The forums have forever been about community and drama, and it can continue to be that

    Respectful to you, yes.

It wasn't much fun being MB when she was doxxed, and people called her house, and her work, and she was banned from all forums and ridiculed in every GNR community (and still is).

All because she believed this guy was Axl Rose, and she believed that backing him and defending him at every opportunity would result in them meeting.

I can understand that, but you have to let it go, whether you are MB or whoever else.

You can only control the present and future, but not the past.

  5. Just an idea

If GN'R are choosing to disconnect, maybe unban everyone. Let everyone back, let the characters return with a single name, Madison if you are there, let's have some fun.

It'd be good to see Highvoltage and UK Subs back, let's just party. Throw caution to the wind and let people do their thing.

    Could be fun

As Warchild, he was always fairly respectful to you wasn't he?

No history.  I remember him as Infamous, I remembered him as Warchild and Sailaway.  He went away for a bit, then I recognized him as Jim.  Everyone said Warchild/Jim was that woman from Florida (MB) but I could tell that wasn't the case.  Just from the posts he made on MSL's forum, mainly off topic - and comparing them to Maribeth's from before all the Warchild drama, when she was a well respected member of HTGTH.

I decided to look into who he actually was - which led me to his actual self.  Also led me on a real journey of weirdness and odd behavior, a few fictional characters across different websites/communities.

It's a fascinating case.  Basically, he has pretended to be someone from LA connected to the band for 20 years, whilst living in a mobile home in Alabama.  And because he has shown loyalty to the band for over 20 years, Beta communicates with him and gives him info.

Imagine that though - over 20 years.  A big chunk of his adult life - pretending to be a studio engineer from LA!

The dude can actually play guitar, knows a decent amount about the music industry and if he says something about GNR, it's likely accurate.  He'd actually be a decent member of the community if we wasn't a lunatic.

Also Downzy/Russ - I've no plans to name/doxx him.  I believe discussion like this has helped a bit - because he previously operated in the shadows with nobody having a clue who he was.  He now knows people can find out, and I believe it's calmed him down a lot.  The takedowns still happen, but IMO his alleged stalking, intimidation and harassing members seems to have calmed down?

They were always respectful. As for lunacy, there's a bit of it in a lot of us.

I may be getting old, but I have fond memories of everything, Warchild, Dark, MSL, Jarmo, Madison Eric and here, Jarmo and me over there, cd.com, newgnr.com. I like gnrevo and their thing, I like the gnfnr and their odd little community. For me it is all good. We have our own little gangs and although gnr might find it challenging, it is all about fans and their own ways of running their own communities, but deep down, there is a fan in there somewhere otherwise they would never post.

We are a quirky community, but it is not for social media

Cineater's reading :) So also the Dizzy Reed place and the GN'R bar, before it all went ezboard. Lisa Reed used to post on the Dizzy Reed board before their separation.

Just so we are all on the same page, everyone know this is like wwe right? Like it’s not real, this is all fictional. No one has connects with the band not even MSL or really Jarmo. I met Jarmo in Vegas he’s an ok dude. But at the end of the day we are just dudes who listen to the same band and some of us like them way more than others. Kinda like girls who followed the Beatles in the 60s. Axl will never know our names, Slash will never give a fuck. Beta and Fernando don’t care about us (and shouldn’t because they are in charge). We will never influence the band or management. This is a old nostalgia act that has been long in the tooth for shit..at least a decade. I just see these forums turning more and more into a creepo fest. I don’t want to dress up like axl that’s off putting. I don’t care what amp slash uses because I’m me and I jam in my tone. If you care that cool but don’t blow your butt hole because someone may have quoted something or said something wrong. Also there won’t be a new album and I’m 99% sure the band doesn’t care that anyone wants one. And they have half a billion reasons as to why they don’t need to make one. So please everyone lighten the fuck up

In 25 years or so, the band have only released one album, and it is the forums that have solely kept the band relevant, despite what they may think. All the journos, novelists, everyone came to the forums at some point during this time.

They get popular again with the reunion then appear to burn the bridges that kept them relevant in the first place. For me, alot of people have put a lot of time and effort into the band over many years, and all people are wanting is some kind of recognition, which I see no problem with.

As I said to Downzy, I am guessing the band are wanting to push the band towards social media and let the forums die, but I don't like social media, I am used to forums and there are probably others that feel the same. When the reunion novelty does eventually wears off, we are the ones that are still going to be here because the paper tiger social media people will go toxic very quickly and move onto the new thing whatever that may be.

True - but ultimately, you maintain a friendship online with this guy.

So (in your opinion) what's the story - are we all wrong and he's misunderstood, or is he the weird loner that has lived an online fantasy character for 20 years.

His posts were (and in some cases still are) cataloged online since 2000.  Read them yourself on here (Warchild and Sailaway).

    Do you like this guy?

Just out of interest, in the public arena, what is your history with the said person. I have always wondered given the constant mention.

Discord was too mobile phony, not my thing, I just wondered.

    +1

(I am now one step closer to 3k, yes!)

I think whatever the plan is, there are always snakes. It has to be trusted people initially. People who have been around for years will always have established alts. It has to be forum staff only initialy. Then add people slowly.

Wow, how the fuck did this happen? There are countless fora throughout the internet where this stuff gets shared without issue - why should ours be any different?

None of it makes any sense, and I think it would be a good idea to try something out, just to experiment if nothing else. Set up a secret section, upload a few things to YouTube, post some links, then see what happens. In the beginning, just have the staff here in the section, then see what happens. Make sure the uploads and links are unique to this forum, and make them unfindable on youtube, if that is possible.

For those freaking out over an IDEA. Here are some revisions to chill you out. All are IDEAS

    1. A very high post count gets you in. This is a very easy way to verify you are a regular and not a lunatic

    2. Verification gets you in. You need x amounts of posts but less than the above point. If you can prove you are not one of the circus freaks with an ID or something, you are in. Yeah, that sucks. A lot of people wont do it

    3. Years active. If you havr been ACTIVE on here for years and don't meet the exact post count but are clearly trustworthy, exceptions can be made

Yes, people will get left out.Too bad, that is the point and this is where we are. It is an effective solution

Or some invite system maybe. Some people could have a low level moderator status, and that group could get access to your hidden area where you would post your youtube links. You could link it in with your downloads area.

A rerecording of Shadow Of Your Love with this line up of the band would be fantastic.

Well, if management have disconnected from the forums, this is what they are missing.

It could be a niche B side on vinyl single, or something else. That is what they would be missing, and why there is value here and anywhere else forum like. Good and sensible suggestions.

What I mean is, all the fuckery that came with making and releasing that album, the lukewarm reception to it, etc. I mean, all of that clearly took a toll on him for a long time. But it's been 11 years now, do you think he still holds any resentment, anger, or insecurity about this album?

Edit: I should clarify that when I mention anger and insecurity, I’m not referring to the album itself, but the process of releasing it and the reception of it.

There still might be some resentment, but there must be a sense of everything being in the past.

The whole making of CD saga was a shame on many levels, but a triumph for Axl at the same time because he persevered and it was released eventually.

Slash and Duff coming back will be forever a big thing, and I am really happy for the band and their recent tour success. They deserve it, and I hope they are now able to do their thing, whatever it may be.

It's strange that people constantly refer the leaks as 'damaging' - I don't see how they are at all personally.

Has it made ANYONE who went to the trouble of finding them and listening less likely to buy future product? Or really impacted in any negative way whatsoever? I'd argue that the leaks are actually really positive- they get people excited, they renew interest, and show that some people, somewhere, still care about GNR as a creative vehicle.

I'm just looking at it from their possible perspective. It was more to point out how much more dangerous modern methods of communicating were.

  15. 49 minutes ago, SoulMonster said:

I think they have kind of tried that with Nightrain, but it was -- in kind words -- poorly executed.

It's all odd. As others have said, once the glitz, glamour and the novelty of the reunion wears off, it'll be them and us again further down the road. It looks as though they have attempted to change the way the fanbase posts, and the thing is, these forums have been around so long that people are not going to change. And with regard to the leaks, it was non forum avenues (social media, reddit, discord etc..) that were more damaging as well.

If whatever response TB has had towards our previous attempts at civil communication feels like being bitten, then yes, of course people would stop trying. No one likes being bit. But is it really that bad? Some harsh words and arrogance? Are we really this sensitive? I feel like that is what I get thrown my way at an average day on the forums  Maybe I am too stupid to withdraw?

That being said, my communication with TB it have always been civil enough. The problem isn't that, but more a fundamentally different way of seeing things. But again, it must be possible to align such differences through communication. Again, not over night, and not by pushing them away through accusations or "woe be me's". Secondly, as mysteron and downzy have discussed, entering such communication from a platform TB perceive as "the enemy" probably puts you at a significant disadvantage from the get-go. Doing it from the official forum, or directly without coming from any forum (as in my case), might be a lot more effective. And again, just to stress this, my posts in this thread have never been about this forum only but the hardcore fan base in total wherever we are (here, there and everywhere). I could of course post this on Nightrain, but I am not paying money to access that shitty forum just to spread this message. And I am not really active on other social media.

I think if GNR are going to ignore these forums, they should really develop their own forum so people do have a platform to communicate. It's not for me because I am used to these ones, but there should be somewhere. Social media isn't very well structured for that purpose.

  17. It feels weird. I think alot of us feel more at home on the forums. They feel safer. I don't know if that makes any sense.

It'd be a shame for the band to abandon these places completely. I know social media is the new thing but I hate it. And the official site has forever been a running joke for 20 years. How can the band expect anyone here to go there

  18. 5 minutes ago, downzy said:

    I whole heartedly agree.

I still can't fathom why we exist in some respects.  GNR's official forum should have knocked this place off as the primarily place for fans to talk about all things GNR.  But it has been so poorly mismanaged (allowed bitter and racist posts to remain, poor discussion and member moderation) and run, with short-term business calculations (i.e., kept behind a paywall) that it has allowed this place, a relic of the pre-social media era, to remain viable and relatively popular among GNR fans.  I use to believe Facebook pages and groups would eventually sap energy from this forum but it's a completely different medium and not really well set-up for fan discussions (difficult to review topics and little to no anonymity).

This place won't last forever, but it has continued despite the fact that other online destinations should have usurped its place a long time ago.

    Oh well.

Just keep going and remain slightly maverick. I never realised.
