It's so nice to see 2006 getting so much love - without wanting to be some sort of shitty hipster, I've been saying that '06-'10 GNR was my favourite era for years. Guns N' Roses was a hell of a band in those days. I miss them.

It was a great year, lots of momentum and positivity. it's just a shame the album didn't come out

  2. 2000ish was a good era for PES. There was a time when you just had total control and you really had to earn the goals. It was a game that run you through the mill and if you came out at the end with a 2-1 victory, then it was a victory well earned. I have liked various incarnations over the years, but there's nothing better than connecting with a game in that way. I have liked always games that reward effort and strategy

I did buy the Arcade1Up Golden Tee cabinet. It's VERY popular every Friday when I have people over to spin records haha.

I can imagine. Great game. I used to like the sports games. I remember Hypersports being popular, I wasn't good at that though. And Mortal Kombat, what a game that was when it came out. Like Street Fighter, but you could pull people's spines out at the end of a round, brutal at the time.

Has anybody tried this out yet? Google are giving 2 Months free access at the moment. All you need is Chrome browser and a controller to plug into your PC. My XBox One pad works fine connected via USB.

First impressions is that it runs like a bag of shit at 1080P over a a 35Mb/s wifi connection. Connected my PC to the router via Ethernet and it runs pretty solidly but that's with an 80 Mb/s connection speed so I suspect that the quoted requirement for 4K 60FPS is rather optimistic.

    Free to play games are:

    • Destiny 2: The Collection
    • GRID
    • Gylt
    • SteamWorld Dig 2
    • SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech
    • Serious Sam Collection
    • Spitlings
    • Stacks on Stacks (on Stacks)
    • Thumper

None of which I'm particularly bothered about but it's free. You can buy a few games as well but they're pretty pricey. I was going to get Assassins Creed Odyssey but £50 seemed a little steep for a game I could only keep playing after the trial if I wanted to pay the monthly subscription and especially since It was going for less than £20 on the XBox store.

I've not looked at it yet. We have good internet speed via Virgin, but it's up, down, on, off (unreliable), so it's put me off so far. I don't know if lockdown and people working from home has made that worse. Anyway, it's something I'll leave until I hear people talking about it more where I am.

  5. It's a really interesting subject.

I have always felt that a console is at it's best at the end of it's life. I go back to the Spectrum/Commodore games and a lot of the best games came out later on. If you look at some of the early games, say Horace Goes Skiing, and compare that to later games, I think that it takes a while for programmers to push a machine to it's limits. And, I actually feel there could be more to come from the current PS4 and X Box if they gave it more time

LOVE me some Tron. I have the game on the Raspberry Pi image that's in my Moonwalker cab. Can't really play it right without the proper controls though.

This dude went the extra mile and converted an Arcade1Up cab to a dedicated Tron machine:

    That looks great

Golden Tee was great as well, that was the one with the roller ball, very quirky at the time. Another game popular here was Gauntlet, but I don't know whether that has aged as well. Have played it in recent times, and it wasn't the experience of yesteryear. I used to enjoy Scramble as well, the side scroller. We had a sit down cabinet version here at a local club I used to go to, ages ago. There are some real gems from years ago

That looks really cool. Been looking into these the past couple of years, it's just finding the time

I was looking into getting a decent version of Tron, which I like and was bad at, and Gorf, which I could clock at the arcade. Dragon's Lair and Space Ace looked pretty when they came into the arcade but I prefer the earlier games.

Right. When the truth hurts, just delete it and shut the people up and pat yourself on the back afterwards. And how convenient you happen to like the other person's post. At least the dimwitted people, the ones lacking reading comprehension and thrive on getting off being butthurt and offended are protected. And threats?? What threats are you talking about?

There are lost lives, lost jobs, lost money on holidays and entertainment related activities, lots of random things going on.

Noone has ever planned for a pandemic, it is what it is, but complaining about money related things when people are dying or in dire financial need to live is never going to come across great on a forum. Everyone will have a story to tell at the end of it all, but perspective and decency are needed.

You are not on your own in anything happening right now

24,000 - 62,000 people died from the flu in America according to the CDC.

    2,000 deaths due to Covid-19.

Be more afraid of the flu.

The only way the true impact will be seen is when we compare this years mortality statistics to last year. The UK government scientist chap said that a lot of the people dying probably would have died this year anyway. In Italy, I think 1700 people a day die anyway, so there's probably a spike just now but it could balance out as the year goes on.

I think the only thing new we can figure with the next chapter Instagram stories popping up now is that maybe it means the Super Bowl show is the start of that and not just another NITL show?

I also fucking hate these posts because I’m started to get hyped for whatever it is even though I fully know as a Guns fan it probably won’t be new music or really anything interesting.

    It's just interesting.

The whole new chapter thing separates the last tour from the new one. I know people are sceptical, and that's fine, everyone carries different expectations. However, it would be good to know when the new chapter officially begins so we can see what it means. I've not seen 'new chapter' attached to tomorrows date or the SA tour, so for those dates, at the moment, I am not expecting much.

Maybe im going for the Dublin show, how is Marlay Park? and 99 euro for Standing and 338 euro for gold circlecle early entry package, little bit expencive for GS...

No idea. People were bigging up the venue on Irish forums years ago when GN'R were due to announce a Euro tour. We thought about moving to Dublin many years back, so was on Irish forums for a while. I like Dublin, nice place with nice people.

I would guess that “The General” will make the cut. Curious if they went back and checked out their abandoned sessions from the mid 90s.

I've not heard the leaks, I just saw people on Discord talking but was not sure of the list. The General sounds quite dated, I'm not sure if that was one of the songs, and I'm not sure how it would translate to 2020. Same with Atlas, sounds like a 90s song

Also, it really depends what GNR's attack plan is for the album, assuming there is one.  Are they dropping a single, and then announcing the album, or going for a full-on surprise album release?  And in what proximity to a US tour would it be smart to drop it?

I would think that if the idea is to really re-brand, a release months before the tour kicks off would probably we wise to create a new wave of hype.

    It'll be interesting to see

Just to say, I am in the positive camp. If it was just Dizzy and Fortus saying stuff then I would stay in bed. But I will listen to what Slash and Duff have to say because they are partners in the band, and Jarmo is not putting me off my positivity, so I will go with the flow just now and see what happens

As for the dark side, I can understand that too as the band missed a whole decade, but hey ho, let's see what happens. There's a long way to go in 2020.

Stupid question, but i'll ask ayway

Is it normal for band big as GNR to release record and start touring it outside US first?

The Green Day, Weezer tour is starting, in earnest, in Europe. I know they have a couple of random dates before, but bands just do different things. The UYI tour kicked off at Rock in Rio in Brazil (I think, anyway)

yes, common sense can also be disregarded now that the band has reunited but it will only lead to disappointment. It's naive to think the situation with how Axl operates is completely different. It is different, yes: the band probably will have way more support from the record company and Axl could be more confident and open to new musical ideas thanks to the history he shares with Slash and Duff and the success they have known together.

but nothing we know has indicated Axl changed the way he creates music. he is still a tinkerer/perfectionist call it what you like. His instinct is to try everything under the sun in the studio, piecing it together. His process is painfully long and the name Guns N' Roses on an album seem to have a very deep meaning to him like it's gotta be "right". The reasons for why he has released 1 album in almost 30 years consist of more than just money or lack of support. Those are factors, but he obviously takes this shit very seriously to the point where if it's not exactly what he wants it doesn't gets released.

He has admitted that he changed his mind about which tunes got to be a part of Chinese until the very last moment. That's the sign of an artist who always questions himself, his work. It's a problem that no one can really solve and it means until the album is handed over, the process can still be prolonged.

Old interviews indicate that it was the record company frustrating the release of CD, and material post CD, not Axl himself. They also indicate that there was a period of writers block early on due to various factors. It is only an opinion, but it feels more positive now. Axl isn't on his own anymore, there are three equal entities carrying the band. And, I think Axl going on stage on time shows that he is feeling more comfortable within himself. Plus, the band have two powerhouses in Universal and Livenation behind them. Universal have long since got their money back from the making of CD, and they have got what they wanted in getting the old band back together. Also, Slash likes to make new music and tour it, I can't see him hanging around in a band that is just going to constantly tour old music, probably the same with Duff as well. Duff was going on about his legacy in a recent interview which shows he is looking for something more meaningful in the future. The band still have the capacity to make new music that can mean something to a lot of people, so why not try. That is what you are looking at when you talk about legacy.

And in 2014 Axl said he had CD II completed and after the tour he'd start looking very seriously into what he was going to do in that regard. Means nothing.

I'm honestly not interested in arguing this with any of you anymore. I'm convinced you're all masochists.

What Axl wanted and what happened were two different things. The record company appeared to frustrate a lot of things back in the day. With every manager, there was the ultimate goal to reunite some form of old GN'R.

Anything historical can be disregarded now, money things can also be disregarded now. What is happening now can be taken on more literal terms.

Do they owe the label any more records?

Surely they’ve made enough money over the past 3-4 years to record and release an album on their own.

just need a distribution deal which I’m sure iTunes would love to do, like they did with U2. Then Sony or someone to distribute the physical copy.

part of the endless touring may be to get the money together to pay off the label and cancel their current contract.

I think it is still better to be with a label. A lot of artists are on these 360 deals now, so the record label should be in a good place with GN'R
