  1. I'm sorry but There was a time is a mess of a song, Catcher in the rye is average up until the outro, which is epic.

The only part of TWAT that I don't like is the whole "Linkin Park" aspect the Pitman added to it. I just think that is completly unessicary. But overproduced is the biggest problem with the whole album, other than maybe sorry and this I love. If Axl would have went for more of a traditional sound with these songs I think they would have not only sounded better but been better recieved by critics and what not. I know that Axl was trying to make the album very "current" sounding, which I respect that. But if he would have went with more of an "old school" approach it would have worked better IMO. Songs like Catcher, Better, CD, TWAT, and scraped would have excelled with a more traditional rock sound. I honestly think they suffered a bit because of the added layers. All of the songs are great, the material is stellar, just a little over done. Street of Dreams, Shackler's, Maddy, This I love, and Sorry are perfect the way they are. The songs I didn't mention are the weakest parts of the album, filler is filler however you slice it. And Prostitute is a great song, just not very Guns like. Other than OMG I would say this is the closest to a solo Axl song.

But back to TWAT, the "linkin park" part with the keys is the only part I don't care for that much. But calling the whole song a mess is rediculous. It is amazing vocally, lyrically, and musically. The guitar parts are all very Estranged like IMO. If This I love is the sequal to November Rain then TWAT is the sequal to Estranged.

  2. But Catcher has a more estranged mental state. And TWAT is about a fucked up chick. But Prostitute could be like Rocket Queen for the 21st Century. This I Love is a pocket sized Nov Rain. Sorry is Don't Cry meets Pink Floyd. Shackler's is Double Talkin' Locomotive. Better is like Head Like a Hole meets Sweet Child O Mine.

I was talking more similiar musically not lyrically. Lyrically yes catcher and esrranged have more in common. But musically I still feel twat is closer. I like your other comparisions except rocket queen and prostitute, I dont see that at all.

  3. On a side note, I don't quite understand all the love Prostitute gets. While I do think it is a good song, and Axl is being really honest and open on it, it isn't very "gnr." Honestly the beginning of it sounds a lot like a Michael Jackson song, and the whole thing sounds like something MJ would have done. Other than name it prostitute. Am I the only one that feels it isn't very rock and roll? If it were on an Axl solo album I would be more understanding, but not on a guns record. And on that album we already have street of dreams, catcher, maddy, and this i love. I just feel Prostittute is one ballad to many. Again I do really like the song a lot, I think it's an amazing song, just not very guns n' roses sounding. Anyone else share these feelings?

  4. @sweetness, I dont think so. It sounds like Nikki has the final say, just like what axl wanted with guns. And from the sounds of it vince has the least amount of say, which he seems fine with. I think this exactly what axl was going for, him, then slash, then duff, then whomever else.

  5. If I was Slash or Duff I wouldn't want to be 'employees' in the corporate version of the band I helped create. If that was me, I'd feel it would be a slap in the face.

But it does make me think how many of these guys would actually want to be there if they were not getting paid.

Did you see the credits where bumblefoot comes out of the closet... lol :)

I DVR'd the episode and I just watched the part where Bumble comes out of the closet. It made me laugh when Eddie makes him get back in it. It was cool!!! I like that show a lot, one of my favs on tv.

  6. When I was watching the newest episode of That Metal Show I found something quite interesting. While the guys were interviewing Vince Neil, Neil told them that "He is an employee of Motley Crew." He said he likes it a lot and it works out really good for him. He also stated that it allows him more freedom to do his solo projects and other things. But also comeback to do Crew stuff when all the guys are ready for tours and what not. He said everybody in the band is in a good place with the band, first time in a long time. Maybe this employee status that some of the band members have allows for this, instead of fighting over every little thing. Basically too many cooks in the kitchen syndrome.

I couldn't help but think about gnr when Vince was talking about this. This is what Axl wanted to do way back when that Slash and others freaked out about and essentially started the beginning of the end of the classic band. To hear Vince talk so highly of this situation makes me think that maybe Axl has gotten a bad rap publically about this. I know this is going to start another Axl vs. Slash thread, but it really does beg the question. If Slash and Duff would have given things a better try gnr would never of broken up, and they both would of had the freedom to do Loaded, snakepit, and other solo projects. Maybe Axl isn't as much to blame as so many like to think.

On a side note the guy on That Metal Show mentioned the gnr vegas residency because the show was being filmed in Vegas.

  7. How is Slash able to do this? Doesn't he have to ask permission to record and make money off of old guns songs? And I doubt Axl would give him the ok. It's the same as anyone else covering a song isn't it? I know he can play the songs live, but recording them is different. Unless you guys know something I don't I could see a lawsuit in the future over this.

Slash owns the same percentage of the old GNR music as Axl does. Also this performance is live.

I understand that owns the same amount of royalties of the old music, but I thought he couldn't try and make money on that stuff anymore. And isn't that essentially what he is doing? So are you saying that he could essentially rerecord appetite with myles and sell it and Axl can't do anything abou it? I highly doubt that. Even though this performance is live, putting it on an album to sell seems like a different story to me. I don't know the ins and outs of these sort of things, please educate me.

And besides the fact, Myles sounds like complete ASS on this. I have a gnr tribute album with a chick singing in that is WAAAY better!!!! And tha's not a knock on slash, just my opinion. He really doesn't sound good.

  9. So you thought of a list of best albums of all time, and the you put Metallic, Back In Black and Van Halen I in and left Blonde On Blonde, A Night At The Opera, Exile on Main St. and Pet Sounds out. Just to name a few. I mean....dude!

I went with the highest selling albums, because they have made the greatest impact worldwide. None of the albums you stated have out sold any on this list.

    Everyone is so cynical!!!!

Pick other and state your pick, it's not that big of deal.

  10. Here are some of the top selling albums of all time, but which one is the all time best? Appetite will probably do well considering this is a gnr site, but is it the best album of all time?

I am actually going to vote for other, because I think the greatest album of all time is Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. I couldn't include it on the list because it hasn't sold as much as the others. But it still gets my vote.

  11. Comparing musicians is silly in the first place. It's not a sport.

While I do like Fortus, I think he is clearly the least talneted of the three. He does the same licks over and over again

You don't play or know anything about guitars, or any other instrument, do you?

Actually I have been playing for over 15 years now, and could probably play you under the table so FU!!!

    Shit. Sue your teacher!

Anyway, I think it's hard to say who is the perfect guitar player for GN'R today. Slash is the perfect guitar player for what he wrote himself. But Chinese Democracy is a different, and Slash would "suck" if he joined GN'R now and had to play what Finck or Bucket wrote. Bumble is to me a bedroom guitarplayer - he is skilled but I just don't feel what he's playing the same way I feel for instance what Slash or Finck is playing. Fortus would in my opinion fit in with both the old lineup and the CD era, he's great at filling the "empty spaces" and he's a bit like Izzy that way.

Ashba is great if you're looking for image, stage appearance, posing with a guitar and stuff like that. And he's good at replacing Slash that way.

I don't have time for you.

Don't get me wrong I really like Richard, and he is incrediably talented.

  13. I also like Ashba. Not as much as Slash, and I have no delusions that he is better than Slash either. But saying that I feel he fits axl and gnr better than any guitarist post classic band. Even Bumblefoot doesn't fit what gnr is as good as Ashba. But I do think Bumble is an overall better guitar player, but the constant shredding does get annoying. While I do like Fortus, I think he is clearly the least talneted of the three. He does the same licks over and over again, so even though their is a thread talking about his brilliance, I for one think he is in his perfect role.

  14. I have to give honerable mention to Detroit in 2002. I was at that show and Axl threw the mic up in the air during patience and just walked off stage and then the lights came on. It was just a really lackluster show the whole time, and that ending was just horriable. This show is one of the main reasons why I never truelly embraced that version of gnr.

  15. Mike -

You said: "I don't know why people like him."

Then you listed the reasons you don't like him.

Then I listed the reason I do like him. I enjoy his music. The music should be the main reason to like or dislike a musician, no?

I was talking about the man not his music. I am a firm believer in a good song is a good song. I dont care if it is michael jackson or chucky e. Cheese. If they wrote a good song I give them credit for that.

So someone cant like a couple of songs by someone but still dislike the person as an individual? Because I respect manson as an artist but think he is a joke of a man.
