the setlist has not changed much since 2002.
the core of the setlist is the same.the structure identical.
jungle, easy, brownstone opening, lead guitar segue into sweet child etc.
knocking on heavens door, pyro for live and let die.
ok,he has added some CDsongs and estranged, but in the BROADER PICTURE
it's same,same.
all the "moves" by the band are the same from show to show.
they are identically choreographed.
this isn't rock n roll./
this is "the setlist"
and "the show".
Even if classic gnr reunited the set list would be pretty much the same every night, because gnr doesn't have as big of a catlogue to choose from. Maybe they could throw some TSI songs in, but why? Some of you bitch about them not playing certain songs from the illusions but really? The crowd didn't go crazy for bad obsession or pretty tied up back in 1992, so why would the crowd get all excited now? Sure Coma or breakdown would be nice, but they hardly played them back then. Get over it people!!!!

Who is technically a better singer, Axl Rose or Pavoratti?
Technical ability is only one criteria. Pavoratti owns Axl on the opera stage, but Pavoratti would get booed off a rock stage. So which one is honestly better? It is all very subjective.
-
All of the above, except the gnr part. This is not intended to be a "who is best for gnr" thread. It is meant who is the best guitarist period. Technically profficiant, greatest impact, best riffs, best solos, best music, and anything else you want to consider. Just pick one and defend your pick, not that hard guys.
-
Ok everybody, I know this is going to start a shit storm, but why not? Sometimes we need a good ole' argument. It's good for the soul
For me it's a no brainer, Slash has left a mark on the history of rock that Buckethead hasn't even sniffed. I do think Bucket is the more technically profficiant player, but Slash's work speaks for it's self. The riffs, the solos, and his "feel" trumps anything Buckethead has ever recorded.
I look foreward to your rebuttles.....
I added BBF to the discusion just to add another "fun" little element.

@ Volcano,
I can respect that. Not every band is for everybody. Like I said in another thread I am a HARD ROCK fan not a METAL fan. SO I will always lean towards bands like gnr, zeppelin, ac/dc, and Van Halen. While I do like metal and some metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath, I do not consider myself a fan of these bands. No desire to go to their concerts. But I do own most of their respective catalogues. It is more of a respect and appreciate as opposed to being a "fan".
-
While I do really like Metallica, and appreciate them, it's gnr for sure. But I am a HARD ROCK fan, not METAL. Give me zeppelin, gnr, ac/dc, and van halen over metallica, maiden, and sabbath any day of the week.

I think it might be a mistake to release this right now, but not for the reasons you all have stated. How is this dvd going to stand a chance in hell when it is going up against the zeppelin dvd from the same venue? I just watched a bootleg of the zeppelin one, and OMG!!! It is going to piss all over the gnr one, sorry to say. I love gnr, current line up included, but it's Led Zeppelin people!!! 3/4 original members, and they really put on a great show. I was doubtful of how good it really is, but damn!!! It has mistakes in it, but on some songs they sound just as good as they did in 1975. ALL HAIL THE ALL MIGHTY ZEPPELIN!!!!
Plant can't really sing like he used to....
He sounds awesome on some of the songs, including stairway, kashmir, trampled underfoot, and whole lotta love. I just watched bootleg of the whole show, so I can't image how good the actual dvd is going to be.
I'm just saying that releaseing a concert dvd around the same time at the same venue is a little risky. People like me will buy both, but if I had to choose it's the Zeppelin one all day. Watching that concert made chills go down my spine at times.

can i say buckethead?
Don't even go there.
-
Overall?? Page for the riffs.
Live? Slash.
"Page has more blues in his soul than Slash??"
Yes on both accounts. Kashmir, whole lotta love, heartbreaker, how many more times, rock and roll, black dog, misty mountain hop, and thats just to name a few. That list is greater riffing than jungle, sweet child, and anything else slash has done.
And the blues part is a no contest. Just go and watch since I've been loving you. More blues inspired playing in the first minute of that song than slash's whole career combined.
And I also think slash himself would say page is better. And you guys are right it is a compliment to be in the same discussion with a true guitar legend like jimmy page.

WOW I am surprised by this so far. I completly agree with all of you, I just figured some would get their panties in a bunch about this.

I have been wanting to do this for a while so here goes. This is not intended to be a trolling thread, just an open debate. I am not going to get upset if you disagree with me, and I hope you all can do the same.
For me it is a no brainer, Jimmy Page trumps Slash any day of the week. The only honest adavantage slash has is I think he is more technically profficiant. Which some put a lot of weight into that, but I think feeling is way more important. Even though Slash does have a great feel, not like Jimmy's. But that is it for slash. Page scores major points because he is the only guitar player in his band. I feel it shows Slash's and others limitations that they need to another guitarist to fill out the sound. And let's be honest, Slash's body of work doesn't add up. Page has written more famous riffs, more famous solos, and has influenced more guitarists, including Slash himself. I am not trying to knock Slash, I am just stating my opinion. Page just has WAAAY more blues in his soul than Slash does. And slash had Izzy to help write those riffs and songs, Page is the only guitarist in Zeppelin.

I have always wondered why these albums are not held in higher reguard. It seems like everytime I read or watch anything about the 90's they might include november rain, but they never include the albums as best of the 90's or anything. They really have become forgotten. I have read magazine after magazine and the illusion albums are never included. I mean I was alive and aware of my surrondings during the illusion era, and they were FAR more popular at that time than anything nirvana, pearl jam, alice in chains, or any of the grunge bands were doing. But when people look back at the early 90's all they talk about is those bands. Without the illusion albums in their cataloge, gnr isn't half the band they are historically. Yes Appetite is amazing, but the illusions is where gnr went epic. I just don't understand why albums that have sold a combined 14 million plus are lost historically?

I was there for the whole thing and this is my take. The kid posted a PM he had with BBF on this forum. Which is a pretty shitty thing to do. Anyone that doesn't agree with that is just being Bias. Did BBf give him some shit in the chat, yes. But IMO that kid deserved it. Did BBF cross a line, maybe. It was nice of him to apologize. But really guys, why isn't anyone else bothered that he did that? What is this world coming to that people can do a pretty shitty thing to start the controversy, and in the end get apologized to?

Axl still sounds great!!! Better than MOST rock singers in the world. I do think he has trouble sometimes when the whole band is playing loud sometimes. But when things are stripped down and playing at a quieter level, like this, he still sounds fantastic.
At risk of starting a shit match, Axl owns Myles at this level. He just has waaay more power to his voice. These acoustic gigs really showcase his unique talent IMO. Someone should send slash a link
-
This is great!!! Good job Axl. How much you want to bet he is going to be nervous and guarded during the interview. It took about ten minutes into the Trunk interview for Axl to warm up. We shall see.

Wow I can't believe the video saw the light of day, and somehow I managed to completely miss out on it.
it's the best guns n roses music video ever!
Are you high or simply retarded ?
If you have read any of his previous posts then you would know it is the option B.

@ Bionic,
Again I don't care if you believe me and it's not for attention. I could post the conversation but I'm not a douche like the OP. Call me a liar, that's fine. Because again I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK!!!!

I used to fight cupcakes on skyrim
then i stumbled on mygnr and realize that it's more fun to slay real cupcakes.
I usually just ignore them. If I do engage in a coversation with one, I will get out of the discussion on my own terms. I make my points and leave it at that. Because honestly most cupcakes can't disprove any of your points, they just try and turn it into a mud slinging contest. Which I don't care to get into those.
-
@ Bionic,
I could really care less if you believe me or not. Your opinion matters to me not.
-
I talked to BBF on fb last night and I will share the just of my conversation because unlike the OP, I am not trying to garner attention. And because he said something that some of you will appreciate. He said that the "bad fans make him appreciate the good ones even more." Saying that it's all about respect. We talked for a bit, then I left him alone. I didn't badger him with questions.
Sometimes we forget that these guys are people too. If you treat people with dignity and respect, usually they return the favor. He is a really cool guy, and he really cares about us fans, more than Axl probably does, but thats a different topic.
I agree with most of you, nothing would make me happier than some sort of gnr reunion. But that's not up to me. And I'm not going to take it out on BBF or any other new memebers liek a spoiled child. And I am not going to judge the music this band makes because it's not slash and the boys. Music isn't sports people, not a competition. Listen and enjoy, if you don't like it then don't listen to it. Find something else to do with your life, it's that simple.
Jimmy Page vs. Slash
in 2012
Posted
I really liked this post. I also really like both a lot, and clearly Slash was influenced by Page. I know many will disagree with this but the three best guitarist period I feel are Hendrix, Page, and Van Halen. Hendrix was the gypsys. He raised the bar on guitar playing in every single way. Say what you will about Berry or any guitarist before him, but Hendrix really wrote the book blues based rock music. And Page was the Wizard. He could create a mood with the guitar like nobody before or sense. So many bands of so many different genres of music wouldn't exist without his playing. From gnr all the way to Tool, and all bands inbetween. And Edward Van Halen raised the bar that Hendrix set. He was the perfect mix of technical ability and still have amazing feel. He really is the "orignal shredder." Without those first two Van Halen albums, guys like Buckethead and Bumblefoot wouldn't have done half of the things with a guitar that they did.
Argue if you will, but these three guys are the holy trinity of guitarists.
