I like the track and honestly think some of the backlash is because these songs have taken on mythic quality that they can't possibly live up to. And honestly, that's no fault of the band's. Axl recorded it, shelved it, but the title got out and we all got our panties twisted up over what the mysterious "General" could be.
I've seen a lot of people says things like this and honestly, it's bullshit. Soul Monster was definitely the most 'mythical' song after The General, and most here seem to think it lived up to the hype - it's a great song. The General just isn't very interesting though, it's another very repetitive, simple song, with production that does it no favours. But even as a simplified Slash/Duff version with NITL production, Monsters is awesome, there's a big jump in quality between it and the other singles.
Seven, Cuban Skies, etc. might also be repetitive and mediocre... but we know he's got songs like Monsters and SOG up his sleeve, it's weird that they keep releasing weaker songs

Problem is ,it was the worst pro shot since Rio 2011...the sound that the BBC gave us was pathetic for a good setlist, the flac & mp4 downloads are pretty poor....listen to Rocket Queen
Whoever mixed it did Axl plenty of favours on Rocket Queen

Because it had a great vibe, a decent proshot (video wise) and Axl was loving it...crowd (by video shots) were having fun! Also, just as a cultural moment, headlining a massive festival that is well regarded and important, is a bucket list tick for them and musical history moment. It matters more of you're British, I'd say....but it had by far, BY FAR the busiest thread of the tour...so i'd say, it was pretty important to their '23.
Yea, I should of stuck that on, but wanted to keep to "official" happenings...but that's what the "other" is for...any yes, amazing moment! Agreed.
It was a fun thread and it's nice to have such a high quality pro-shot, and of course it's a huge festival, but for all the hype around it - it's just another show on the tour. Nice that they shortened RQ, but no Anything Goes, Wichita, or rarities... also the European crowds kinda got fucked over not hearing Perhaps, they were sound-checking it for the whole tour.
I threw a couple songs from that show into my live GNR playlist but it's not something I'm gonna listen to in full.
And, as much as I enjoyed hearing a bunch of different songs this year, I gotta say - Wichita Lineman is still one of their best live songs.

Monsters leak, and it's not even close. Great song.
It's nice that they finally released The General too, but man that song (and it's production) were a let down. Still, I'll give them credit for finally releasing something that hadn't leaked years earlier.
This tour was easily their best since 2017, but I'm not sure why anyone would pick Glastonbury as a highlight. I enjoyed the show I saw, even if it wasn't the strongest night of the tour. It was nice to see Axl performing a 'new' song for the first time since 2010, and hearing songs that utilize his natural voice was great.

I can’t help it, I’d buy any media this band releases if it has new stuff on it. My guess is Atlas and Monsters are next.
Monsters seems like a given, and Atlas is likely too, but I don't think they'll release those until the next tour cycle. I'd like to be wrong, but I think they'll just re-package Perhaps next year. Maybe they'll add Monsters and 3 whole live tracks onto an EP, but somehow I doubt it...
I've said it for years, if this band releases new music I'll buy it. A few bucks for a single every couple years is definitely within the budget of what I spend of records lol. If they actually do an expanded EP, I hope they press it as a 12" 45, it would sound better and they could sell it for at least twice the price of what they're selling the 7" records for.

They couldn’t even be bothered to include two live NITL tracks this time. Would have been nicer having a few more songs on the CD.
I'm guessing they'll try to milk this CD for a while. An 'EP' with live tracks next year, maybe as the 'Nightrain exclusive gift'... Hardschool had multiple versions, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same with Perhaps
I'm not gonna play a 4~ song CD very often, but I'd like some good live versions of Perhaps, TWAT, Anything Goes, etc to throw in a live playlist.

I think Guns N'Roses added Melissa to show they are accepting of a young Female as a band member. 😇🤔 All of her Co-workers are old enough to be her Fathers. She's only around 33 and her oldest coworker is 61. The other Coworkers are around 58. Her Coworkers are all Baby Boomers and she's a Millennial. Guns N'Roses also hired Frank Ferrer who is fully black, once again showing how accepting they are. 😇🤔
I don't know why she lied about her age (her yearbook photos from 2001 are online...) but she was somewhat involved before Chinese was even released:
My friend Brain is the drummer for Guns N' Roses (he also used to be the drummer for Primus). He wrote two of the songs on the new Guns N' Roses record 'Chinese Democracy" released late last year. He and his musical collaborator Melissa Reese worked up a hip hop/club version of the song 'Shackler's Revenge" with programmed beats and additional loops and cool sounds. They asked me to mix it. I've been chipping away at it for a few weeks over the Christmas holidays and finally I think it is done. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, it is pretty wacky though! (later, sometime in February) Brain called to say that Axl Rose finally heard the remix and really likes it. Yay!.. (Sean Beresford Sunday,January, 2009)
The remix actually was posted on Sean's profile page for a short time before being removed.^quote from @Rindmelon on discord

Had the band picked the best songs from UL and RotDC and done just one album, it woulda been one of their best. My tracklist keeps changing slightly, but currently it’s this:
1.The Shape I’m Takin’, 2.Tippa My Tongue, 3.Here Ever After, 4.Peace and Love, 5.Eddie, 6.Black Summer, 7.It’s Only Natural, 8.The Great Apes, 9.She’s a Lover, 10.Nerve Flip, 11.Watchu Thinkin’, 12.Bella, 13.Reach Out, 14.Roulette, 15.White Braids & Pillow Chair, 16.The Drummer, 17.The Heavy Wing, 18.Veronica
People love to do the 'best of' thing, but there's never really a consensus on what should or shouldn't be included. Your playlist is good, but no Carry Me Home, Bag Of Grins or Tangelo? There's filler on every RHCP album, I'd rather get 2 full albums than whatever they might consider the strongest single album to be.
ROTDC has held up, imo. It's arguably one of their top 5 albums. UL has more radio-friendly songs, and I can see why they released it first, it's a good album... but DC feels like John's real comeback album.

I think the only IEMs from 2016 are the first two Vegas shows. Better than nothing
Of course. I was at those shows and I'm glad to have such a high quality recording of them, but the NA tour was another level. At least we got a couple songs from Houston, Coachella, Mexico, etc.
But a compilation with WTTJ from Detroit, RQ from Houston, This I Love from Seattle, OTGM and My Michelle with Steven... they could release a legitimately great live album from that leg if they wanted to.

There's plenty of soundboard & IEM shows from 16 onwards, best you'll get is flac burned onto cd though
Well, only a couple from 2016, which means most of what we have sucks
I'd love a live record from 2016 but I'd pass if it was from 2018 onward... they couldn't release just Houston 2016 (because of November Rain) but a compilation of Houston/Arlington, or even the NA leg in general, would be great.

Check out scraped. There’s “hidden” lyrics in the last chorus. Pretty cool, spotify has the lyrics now and I never could figure out what he was saying on my own
Don’t you try to stop us now, (I’d give anything to know)
I just refuse (I would have never made it so far)
don’t you try to stop us now, cause I just won’t let you (I’d give anything to know)
Don’t you try to stop us now (how you live with yourself)
pretty cool! Those spotify lyrics are a bit off. The 'background chorus' is:
I'd give anything to know
How you live with yourself
I would have never made it so far
All by myself

Are we listening to same vinyl rip? Original digital version is clipping like crazy on almost every bassdrum kick, but vinyl rip has almost no clipping...
I haven't listened to the rip, I listened to the actual vinyl and the digital releases.
But, it's fucking hilarious that people were freaking out about The General being vinyl-exclusive at first, and it turns out a vinyl rip is the best version

I really didn't notice much difference when I listened to the vinyl. Exact same mix with the exact same problems.
If the leak and eventual release of The General has taught me anything, it's that a surprising amount of people don't know what the word 'mix' means.
It's a shame, really. Perhaps sounded nice, but I probably won't bother listening to the record again since The General still has noticeable issues. Guess I'll hold out hope for an IEM recording from the next tour...

I'd really like to hear Fortus take the lead on There Was A Time, and Shackler's if they ever bring that back. His solos on CD, SOD and Madagascar are all solid, and definitely better than how Slash plays the CD songs.
I've mentioned this before, but if they ever do attempt to write new music I'd love to hear a long, epic instrumental - Axl driving the song on piano while Slash and Richard trade solos for like 10 minutes...

What player did you get? I’ve been thinking about getting a record player for ages, but don’t know which to get. I want a quality sound but my budget isn’t huge.
Depending on where you live, you might be surprised by what you'll find on craigslist, facebook, etc. and in thrift stores. A small budget will go a long way if you're willing to piece together your setup over time. The only equipment I've ever bought new were some bookshelf speakers, because they were on sale.

What's wrong with the kick drums?
Not the electronic verse drums, but the real drums in the chorus are clipping all over the place. It's most noticeable in the fills leading into and out of the chorus, can you hear a 'click' or static kind of sound on the kick beats?

Spun the vinyl yesterday, it sounds fine... aside from the kick drum. I really don't know how so many people here don't notice it.

Got my Perhaps/General 7" today, Perhaps sounds fine but I can't believe they released the General with the clipping bass drum...
I looked through my other 7" records, I've got a Fall To Pieces/Slither promo and a Loaded split single. Anyone remember this song?

My Perhaps/General 7" arrived today. It sounds fine, aside from the bass drum clipping on TG... can't believe they released the song like that, and can't believe so many people here don't seem to notice it.
Also got a copy of RHCP Live In Hyde Park, 3LP set from the By The Way era. Fortune Faded, Leverage Of Space, Rolling Sly Stone, Universally Speaking and Throw Away Your TV are all highlights.

My record just got here, gonna spin it pretty soon. My CD should also arrive sometime today.

I got lucky with the AC/DC records. I found 2 out of the 3 Hired Gun ones on eBay for like 70 bucks. I think I’m missing Touch too Much
The box i can’t believe I scored. Got it just last month. I got that, Roses are Rad (80s boot of the 87 Lost Horizon show), and a boot of the OG AfD with yellow vinyl for 200 bucks. That’s a steal to me!
I got the Hired Gun records when they were still fairly new releases, on average they cost me probably $50 CDN.
$200 for that bundle is a great deal, even for just the Axl/DC box that's a good price these days.

It's not about style, we agree that CD has plenty of styles and influences, but the singles feel unfinished. Silkworms was never a great song but at least it had a decent structure, then they re-structured it into Absurd and repeated the same verse throughout the song. It's boring, and nothing on CD feels as half-baked as the singles.
Hardschool is on the same level as Scraped or Rhiad but the production brings it down. Perhaps could've been a great song but it doesn't go anywhere. Maybe they would've worked better in the context of CD2 but I can only judge them as leaks or standalone releases because that's all they are.
