A double-album would be a good solution to mixing old and new and also making up for lost time and the currently-small back catalog, as you put it. The problem tho is economic feasibility. Single-disc albums barely sell well these days, let alone a double-album! I suppose one solution could be to do two albums at once, like they did with UYI. Fuck, they could even go full nostalgia-bait with it and call it UYI 3 and 4, I guess! Or maybe have the CD leftovers as a digital-only “bonus” disc... idk. Something like that. There are options, here. The question is whether or not the band and the label have been reviewing any of these options.

Good point, unsure how much double albums retail for nowadays, I believe Stadium Arcadium was about £18 back in the day?

I'd hate for that Chinese material to be listed as a bonus disc though, all of those years working on material to be thrown in as an extra would be pretty insulting to the players during those years IMO.

  2. Yes. The Village Sessions rejuvenated my dwindling optimism and faith for new music.

As mentioned, we've had information that has alluded to the fact that something has been happening - I just hope it's a case of sooner rather than later, while Axl is still capable of putting on a great show along with showcasing to the world what more gems he's come up with. I would fucking love a double album. The follow up to Chinese with all the big hitters and whatever else they want to throw in on a second disc. Beef up the back catalogue.

  3. What a sickener that was. Another Cluj fiasco where our arse collapsed. This Celtic side has done themselves a grave injustice not qualifying to the last 16, especially with the talent we have. That mob were 9/1 to beat us last night.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rangers draw and paste Copenhagen both legs. At least it's another topic for them to sing about - us not being in Europe, along with their other staples of murdering Catholic's, their hatred of the Pope and of course the obsession with Paedophilia. Though as Alex Rae said, they were in fine voice

There will be a repeat of Beachball Sunday at Ibrox, though will be curious to see how that will work out if the gap continues to widen in that time.

Focus on securing 9IAR and see what happens with the Scottish Cup. Still on for a quadruple treble.

I love this song. I don't know if you're familiar with the music video for this song, but they made a 2015 version with the same people that were in the 1993 video. It's on youtube. (I can't link it anymore...)

Yeah mate, I've seen that. Pretty cool! Great song, I love playing it on guitar too :bucket::robin::slash:

Why do they need an old Axl? What is there to talk about?

I guess to touch upon the Chinese era. He'd have been 35/36 when the recordings were kicking off and then all through out his 40's. Arguably the most fascinating period of his life to some due to the secrecy of the Chinese sessions.

It is my favourite off Chinese. And I like it even more now

Fair fucks to you mate. I just feel Uncle Ax shits all over it now unfortunately. Not a big fan of the big intro either.

best version for me is Download 2006. You wouldn't find better vocals compared to this performance imo cause Axl was very pissed off and just stood there singing it with zero enjoyment. Was still a 10/10 performance for me but there were crazy Better 2010 performances as well.

Donnington was class. He'd won them over by the end of it and also featured one of the greatest performances of Nightrain too!

I was never a big fan of the tone from Ashba's guitar. I've just stuck on the Better from the second London show from 2010 and it's just missing a lot of the charm that it had with Finck on lead.

Refresh my memory on this part as I seemingly have no recollection of these 2 parts haha. Not calling you out at all, I'm just dumb a lot of the time.

Axl’s tweets canceling the 2010 tour that was the result of an alleged hacking. Re-appears in that document list along with DJ to be fired and sued. I believe the table of contents of the documents listed the shenanigans surrounding Abu Dhabi and Tommy too, and the possibility of Duff rejoining. Plus there was rumors of friction among them during this time. Mad as I’m sure it was that side of the world they done a brief promo vid, Axl included, where Dizzy talks about being locked out of his hotel room etc

This is all from memory of 10 years ago, I tried sourcing info earlier for Sauer, but I’d be at it for ages. It’s all out there somewhere.

    1) It's more of the "Axl's voice" thread material, but still: what you say wouldn't explain his 2002 version, which maybe wasn't as bad as 2011 or 2013/14... whatever, but it was still a major shift as opposed to the 90s, with 2001 being somewhere in between but closer to 02. It's more complicated than that, and theories are many.

    2) What did actually happen in Abu Dhabi in 2010? I've seen several allusions but can't find anything of substance. The playlist looks normal, Axl sounded good... What was the fiasco about?

No one knows for definite. Axl touches on it on the interview he done on That Metal Show, but says they were betrayed big time in terms of business. The rumours at the time was that Tommy was pissed at something, very drunk and refusing to play.

On your first point, I've got big love for his voice in 2001, particularly the HOB show.

Does that say more about Axl getting sick in 2011, or more about the lack of taking care of his voice? Sad that we can't have prime Axl anymore :/ stinks his singing style isn't more natural to his register (not sure i'm using that correctly)

I think he changed his technique, I assume he burnt himself out by the end of the 2010 tour and maybe felt that he was at a standstill career wise - this is all assuming we take the hearsay as fact. The label supposedly rejecting a follow up album, DJ Ashba to be fired from the band and then the band to be dissolved and then the whole fiasco in Abu Dhabi which was supposedly going to lead to more firings. The chat back then was that he was going through the motions at the shows, I dunno if I agree with that, but the shows did seem like a routine. We were hoping for new music to be debuted at Rio 2011, but what we got was the opposite. More or less the sign of what was to come for the next 3 years until that era came to an end.

I still prefer Axl's singing in 2016 though, especially the North America run, to the way he was chanting back in 2010. That may seem mental to some, but he had the right balance of rasp and clean, plus his clean voice had more power than it did from 2011/14.

I also hope that a new album will get his arse back in gear and he'll be wanting to fire on all cylinders to promote fuck out of it with some sensational chanting.
