  1. November Rain and Estranged are the only songs of his I'd consider to be great songs.

    Not Locomotive or Coma?

It's funny that the songs you mentioned plus the songs I mentioned are basically Axl and Slash only. You take away one of them and they absolutely decrease in quality. I don't know, indirectly, maybe, they knew they complimented each other perfectly, even if they hated each other's guts at some point.

We're talking about Axl songs, not group collaborations or Slash songs.

Someone called Axl up there with the best and as a sole composer, no way.

  2. I think Axl is a truly great melody and lyric writer. I'd put up 'This I Love' against any musical number from Rodgers & Hammerstein or Sondheim.

Songs like Sweet Child and Jungle are perfect. Songs like Coma and Locomotive have great moments but are a little too wordy for me. I prefer simplicity.

Slash is also a great melodist. That is why they were so great together, their melodic sensibilities really complimented each other.

    That's unfortunate.

Unfortunate for the band of which Axl took complete control and tried to be the sole composer, yes.

I always thought that was a dick move to not give Slash writing credits on those songs considering his guitar melodies are my fav parts.

I prefer bands that stay pure and just credit everything to the core members like U2 or the Doors. Once you start coming up with percentages then thats where things fall apart and everyone gets resentful.

Yea. Once they start dividing credits, everyone starts a war over their songs versus another. Too much ego and greed gets involved.

Hey, everybody got paid and created great music together, and I have Chinese to listen to.

I just meant that you have way less songs to enjoy, so it must suck is all. As a Guns fan, or former Guns fan, or old Guns fan.

I enjoy plenty, just not the whiny songs, bland rockers and messy wannabe epics that is CD.

  4. If Slash considered him to be so important, why no Gilby?

I've already given you a reason - twice in fact.

The actual reason is because Gilby was nothing more than the guy that replaced Izzy in GNR. He wasn't even auditioned for VR before Kushner played with them. He wasn't a serious choice for GNR, VR or Slash's new project and all you have is a HOF performance(where he was once again "the guy that replaced Izzy), pinball machines and TSI. At some point, you gotta wonder who the real fools are in this discussion.

And one more thing since VR is a subject:

Ask yourself why VR were considered a GNR reunion minus Axl. Because the public can accept no Izzy and Gilby. And before you say they weren't, I suggest you remember the time of their albums and touring. Every discussion about VR revolved around GNR also.

Put Axl, Slash, Duff, Matt/Steven on the stage and the 5th will not hurt it. Izzy is definitely first choice and a bonus but It wouldn't hinge on Gilby after that except for you.

  5. Let's see....... All of GNR minus Axl start VR. Izzy bails and they get Gilby...oh wait. No they didn't. Surely in DD's world, Gilby would have been the next choice because pinball.

To be fair, Kushner was already there and Izzy was in VR for his songwriting skills, not to solely play rhythm. Not an accurate comparison if we're discussing a GN'R reunion where Izzy is absolutely the first choice.

The point is that DD claims Gilby was more than just a hired gun for GNR and that he was Slash's choice for multi-million dollar productions YET Gilby was not involved in VR after Izzy left or even before Kushner was auditioned. Izzy wasn't going to be a singing scarecrow without a guitar. That project was all GNR minus Axl until Izzy left. If Gilby was so important, why did Slash overlook him for the audition and replacing Izzy's void.

There are obvious reasons why Kushner played in VR over Gilby, the most obvious being that VR were not and were never intended to be 'Guns N' Roses'. Gilby was brought into GN'R in 1992 because he had a similar Stonesy vibe to Izzy and could learn 30 songs in one week. With VR, with Weiland and the changes to music that had developed post-Guns, there was never a motive to draft in an Izzyesque Stonesy player. VR wanted to differentiate themselves from Guns.

The show at the RnR HOF was not intended to be GNR without Izzy and Axl either yet you throw it out there. Can't have it both ways. If Slash considered him to be so important, why no Gilby?

  6. Clearly it's because Slash saw the TSI picture.

Don't ignore the earlier point. Gilby wasn't in VR in place of Izzy and guess what....no one cared then either. Gilby was always and will always be "that guy that filled in for Izzy." Unless you like that Supernova crap.

I know you like to think there's a large group of people caring about this discussion but there isn't. It's only a few of us and no one is bothering to argue the validity of Gilby Clarke in a reunion. Imagine what the opinions of the general public would be.

  7. "Me and Matt were not credited as band members."

Were you ever considered or auditioned for Velvet Revolver?

"No, because I'm a lead guitar player and so is Slash so it wouldn't have worked."

    Slash's decision,

You keep going back to the HoF. Which of them were inducted, again? Matt's there. Dizzy is there. Maybe someone should show the RnR HOF TSI and the pictures!

I was replying to Barcardi. He said ''no one in...Slash's camp would ever ever consider this pub playing mongoloid for a multimillion dollar reunion production'' yet, someone in Slash's camp did clearly consider Gilby for a performance at the televised prestigious event, the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. That person was Slash himself in fact!

The HOF gig wasn't a multi-million dollar production. It was another live gig. Just like the other live gigs that the touring member played with them before. It wasn't a reunion the moment Izzy and Axl were out. Gilby didn't fill the reunion void of Izzy. Not only was he not inducted, no one cared that he took the stage except for the Gilby fanboys. If it isn't Izzy, it doesn't matter.
