It was 10 years ago. Sorum never had the relationship that Axl had with Slash, and didn't have the major fallout Axl had with Slash. It's not shocking after such a long absence from an old bandmate to "make amends", so to speak.

And yes, VR is moving on just fine. All you've heard is BS rumors. There's been plenty of quotes from Duff, Sorum and Weiland on them working on the new album. The first single isn't reported to be hitting radio until the end of summer, so Duff touring with Alice in Chains is irrelevent.

Axl's management company refuses to say if they've found a new guitarist. They want it to be a "surprise" for the first show.

When has Axl's management ever said anything about anything? We're lucky to get more than 5 words out of Merck in a given week. It doesn't mean Slash is coming back, it just means they're dicks who don't bother keeping the fans informed.

The band and management have gone out of their way to make ammends with their fans - tight presales, a string of small venue shows right before the big tours start. As a long time GnR fan, I can say this is highly unusual behavior.

Because Axl's reputation in the U.S. right now is, in a word - TERRIBLE. He's become almost a running joke at this point in mainstream music, and he knows he needs to get himself back into the good graces of american music fans, so he's going to cater to them any way possible.

Call this part II to an earlier topic I start, where I said it was ridiculous how the Axl-haters do nothing but bitch and moan about Axl ruining or tarnishing the name "gnr" and it's legacy.

And then it just dawned on me. It's not really because they think Axl is going to release shitty albums and turn the name Guns N Roses into a joke. It's not that AT ALL.

I'm talking about the people who just rip Alx, who say that GnR was the sum of all it's parts and that without mainly Slash/Duff, but also Izzy/sorumoradler, that GnR will never have that same special feeling and meaning that they had for Appetite and Illusions.

I finally just realized that the reason these people freak out about the GnR legacy is absolutely because of the music Axl is releasing.

BUT THE OPPOSITE REASONS THAT THEY SAY!!!!

They heard the first group of songs on the 2002 tour, compared them to Contraband, and had to start getting a pit in the bottom of their stomach. The Blues and Madagascar have classics written all over them. Chinese Democracy has the potential to be a strong rock song. I like Rhiad, but realise a lot of people don't.

Then comes the new leaks. IRS. TWAT. Better. Catcher.

And to those who think that Axl's going to be the force that he once was back in the late 80s/early 90s, it's time to be realistic. Back then Axl was a young 26-30 hellraiser, he gave something to the kids (myself at the time) to listen to and tell their parents to fuck off. You're not going to have the same 13-18 year olds listening to a man who's as old as their parents wanting to rebel alongside their parents. But hey, that's just my take. I hope Axl proves me wrong 'cause it would be awesome to see.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The appeal of GnR was their musical innocence and youthful fury mixed into their songs about things that could only happen in the movies. You turned on the record and just got completely kicked in the ass by a group of young pricks who didn't give a fuck. Since that's gone, the music is terribly overproduced generic rock, with a 44-year-old man who's voice isn't nearly what it used to be.

I was probably in third grade when Appetite came out, and I remember listening to it with my friend in her basement. She had stolen her older brother's tape, and we listened to it and freaked out over "It's So Easy" because they said fuck and bitch. It was the first thing that I listened to as a kid that seemed dangerous. It just gave off a totally rebellious "I don't give a fuck" vibe.

And I'm sure everyone has a story like that, and I'm sure if you really sat back and thought about when you first popped in AFD, you'd realize how ridiculous it is to post the "I hate Axl/Slash" garbage. That is gone now, and there's no way to ever recapture it. You can't plan something like that, it just happens. We're left with middle aged Axl and Slash bickering back and forth through lawyers, and Axl taking over a decade to make an "epic" album, when all people really want is Guns N' Fuckin Roses.

Well, at least he's still big in Sweden. Too bad he can't sell out shows like that in the U.S. anymore.
