The more I think about it, the more I think I'm just gonna skip buying

Yeah I’m not buying that shit.

i have a 7” single of sympathy so no need for that terrible GH release.

  2. I’ve seen him a few times live since 2014 and very up close, fortunately enough. It is always a blast. He puts on an amazing show and the newer material blends in perfectly with the newer interpretations of zeppelin tunes his band does.

Picked up the 3 LP Roger Waters live album Us+Them.

Gonna try to get a couple of things from the next RSD Drop but there's nothing of interest for me on the RSD BF list.

I'm going for that let it bleed, hand poured album strictly as a resell item. With only 900 made, if you can get one, it will go for A LOT.

And yeah, this 3rd drop from the "april" RSD is the one I've been waiting for. I think there are like 4-5 titles I am after.

  4. 4x in 2006 (inland invasion and all there nights at gibson amphitheater)

1x in 2011 (the la forum)

    2x in 2016 (Dodger Stadium)

3x in 2017 (twice in London and once at the LA Forum)

so 10x total for the name GNR

I also saw VR 14x which is just as much GNR to me as the 2006/2011 shows.

As well as plenty of shows by Slash solo Adler, Gilby, Duff projects including 2x with Janes Addiction, etc....

Out of all of them, VR was the best, especially the show at the Whisky.

  5. I ended up passing on anythign on this particular RSD. I had thought about getting the Ace Frehley and Lennon releases but 40 bucks is way too much for the Ace LP and the Lennon single is pretty much just a promotional piece for the album of remixes coming next month.

I think the next 2 drops have releases I really want (slave to the grind, austin powers, McCartney, etc)

    Well....Amoeba is completely fucked.

But it looks like I got lucky....for a minute there was a guy selling on discogs for retail price so I clicked order as fast as I could.

Looks like I can finally unclench my asshole.

All this for a fucking stupid record with two songs on it.

Why do we do this to ourselves, as collectors??  Ugh.

    Yeah amoeba is totally fucked.

Yeah I checked Amoeba.   Sounds like it's gonna be a lottery type thing, like getting tickets at ticketmaster used to be in the 90s.   If you aren't one of the first callers in the first minute....you're shit out of luck.

it's not a lottery. They are just posting them online at 10am pst. First come, first served.

Well, the day is almost upon us.

I haven't found any sites that are selling online.  After all, the whole point of RSD is to drive in foot traffic to the stores.

If anyone has any links to stores that are definitely gonna sell that Slint record, please let me know!   Otherwise I gotta pester poor Russ about it...

literally the post above this tells you where to buy online.

Very nice. I live not too far from the camp grounds at Goose Lake. The outer shell of the stage is still out in the field. I have friends who have a camp site adjacent to the field. I always find myself day dreaming about the amazing concerts that were held on those grounds.

that's awesome the stage shell is still there!

  10. I generally go with my lady but I have gone alone to plenty and it always ends up being a good time.

Some of my favorite shows I went to by myself were the MC50, GNR in London and Jack White in the Blue Room at Third Man Records.

Oh and Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band back in 2010!!

  11. It doesn't matter. It's Aerosmith.

Yes some songs like IDWTMAT aren't my favorite but it's part of the greater whole.

At least they don't do shitty 15 minute versions of songs like that, like when GNR plays their neutered cover of KOHD. Actually, the last time I saw Aerosmith, they didn't even play IDWTMAT which was super awesome.

Yeah and it depends on what you call a ballad I guess, because Wither, Kings/Queens, Mia, etc etc are all great songs. Does slower tempo always mean ballad? I guess that's up for debate.

I picked up the new Margo as well. I dig it. Next things up for me are the Crowes reissue on RSD, then the Prince Sign boxed set.

yeah it's a solid album. A handful of really good songs on there.

I know I have that Stooges boxset coming and then there is a new live stooges album coming out and after that I guess I have to go back through the RSD lists as I kind of lost interest when it got pushed way back. I remember there were a few things i wanted.

True, but Brian had the advantage of being in a time when there was still ground left to be broken. What Dylan was doing lyrically, Brian and the Beatles were doing sonically. I'm not taking anything away from any of them, I think they're geniuses, but things were ripe for experimentation. Fast forward 35 years later and pretty much everything had been done. It's like something I read the other night, a person asked a musician why songs don't have that "classic" impact or sound anymore. He said it's simple, we're running out of melodies.

I agree with what you're saying in terms of there being more to advance in the 60s. I was more making the point that Axl "experimenting" is really more an evolution of axl's tastes in music rather than him really experimenting.

  14. Also, for the people saying they were both experimental...

Brian was experimenting with things that hadn't been done before and changing the way music is recorded even until this day.

Axl was experimenting in what it would be like to be like NIN or other similar bands he was into. He was never breaking new ground, he was just breaking (or trying to) the perception of what GNR was which when you think of it isn't a big deal at all.

No. Brian Wilson released a shit ton of music and influenced the Beatles.

This is sort of true, sort of not.

They were more contemporaries who were on similar levels doing similar things. Rubber Soul made Brian go holy shit, we have to do better and he made pet sounds. The Beatles heard pet sounds and realized they had to do more technical stuff in the studio and made sgt. pepper.
