  1. I'm bummed it got postponed but it was to be expected. Hanging on to my tickets as they are awesome seats and will make the trip up to oakland whenever it gets rescheduled.

Whoa.... I must've missed Slave. I have an original, but I'll pick up that reissue!

Yep, that’s my situation too. And it’s expanded on to two LPs with 4 bonus tracks.

I imagine beggars day is one, and maybe fire in the hole but not sure about the other two.

The RSD list is out. I'm only in for 2 records but they're ones I've wanted forever.

    The Black Crowes - Lions

    Various Artists - Sweet Relief

Those are two HUGE releases for me!

I'm in for the McCartney reissue, Slave to the Grind and at least one of, if not all of the austin powers soundtracks.

They could do a surprise drop but they'd have to do a lot at once - drop the album, a single (with at least a lyric video), have physicals ready to pre-order, maybe some special edition or colour-variant vinyl, and do a real interview. Basically 10 years worth of activities in GNR-time, in one moment.

They're not really in a place where they can just drop an album, tweet about it once, and watch the cash come pouring in. They're not as popular as they think they are, but the draw of the reunion album is still there. It's really the last ace they have up their sleeve. It will be big news, but they'll still have to do some promo. I agree with your last paragraph though.

Yeah and it could be done. It's little harder with a bigger band like this and so many moving parts that are involved to make it happen.

Last year on 4/20, Third Man Records dropped a new sleep album and it was in stores that day. No on even knew they were signed to the label at the time. But when you are talking about a huge company like Universal Music, all the band members and their separate entourages, etc...it's not that easy to keep a secret.

  5. The funny thing is, I could see them being stupid enough to do a surprise drop because "oh, other big artists have done it and it made a big splash"

The problem is, they aren't nearly as popular as they think they are anymore. To make a new album really sell, they need to do a lot of promo including interviews with Axl and Slash together, real band photos, etc.

They will probably land somewhere in between those two ideas and do a similar campaign to what they did with the AFD remaster/box set and the just continue touring endlessly with a setlist that remains 95% unchanged because that's where the money lies. Albums are flyers for tours these days.

  6. All of the "ithos" are absolutely amateur.

Look at bands like The Raconteurs, Primus, Tool, etc...

They get a range of good to excellent and very well known artists to make posters, and they are screen printed.

They aren't even lithographs anyhow. They are just inkjet printed, prints...more of a giclee than anything. Management just has no idea what they are talking about and calls them whatever term they think fits.

To be fair, I work in art and work with many incredibly talented artists, so my view is skewed and I understand that people just like having a poster form the show they went to.

Fair enough, I totally get that this type of show isn’t for everyone. I’m really into the 80’s thrash stuff, so this is right up my alley. Plus I’ve actually never Mike Patton at all, so I’m really excited for this.

Well if you haven’t seen Patton, anything is worth going to. He’s incredible live. My buddy went last night and said it’s one of the best shows he’s been to in years. Nothing beats FNM though...although I really want to see a Fantomas show.

I don’t mean now, I mean when the shows were announced. I can’t imagine anyone ever thought that Mr. Bungle’s first shows in 20 years would be playing a demo tape that hardly anyone had even heard of until they said it was happening.

Yes. The only song they didn’t play last night for, whatever reason, is Grizzly Adams.

oh got it...yeah I actually ended up selling my tickets to help fund a trip I'm going on next month.

I was super excited at first just because "oh my god, bungle is playing!" but after listening to the demo a few times, I was like eh I don't really need to go see this live. It's just another thrash show. I saw Patton with Dead Cross the previous year and while it was cool, it was sort of the same thing. (though that's more of a hardcore album)

It’s a very Mike Patton-esque  thing to give people the reunion they’ve been clamoring for...and play a bunch of music no one knows. Completely subverting expectations, I love it.

Well, they've been clear from the start that they were playing the original demo in it's entirety so it's not really subverting expectations that much. I think most figured they might throw in a few off the other albums in the encore but otherwise, it's as advertised.

  10. I wouldn't say it's a mess but at this point, I am just bored with it.

I was excited to see Axl and Slash play together in 2016 but once that novelty wore off (which was pretty quick for me) it just felt like I was seeing lesser versions of both of them as well as Duff. The VR shows I had seen were far more captivating and energetic and I saw Axl a handful of times in 2006 when he still sounded great. So this felt like watching a reboot of an old movie franchise you love, where you're excited for the name on the poster and because the original actors are back but maybe the director has changed or isn't as hungry as he once was and the writing just isn't there anymore either. It's just a lesser version of what you've always loved.

It's really just become what every other band from their era and previous eras has become...a corporate jukebox tour and in that case, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Bands should really fucking hang it up before it comes to the point where they're publicly eating each other alive in their old age. These dudes are all at or nearing their 70s, do they really need MORE money that badly?

They're still an absolute blast live, one of the best shows you can see. Why would they hang it up?

April 2019. The beginning of the residency.

No, it was later than that. I saw him with them in June. I think it was right before they took off for the east coast shows in July sometime or even August.
