  1. If they’re going to release a UYI collectors edition this summer it would make sense to rework demos of that era into singles.

Bring It Back Home, Sentimental Movie, Crash Diet, etc.

like they did with Shadow of Your Love.

It’s a better way to incorporate the history of the band and this lineup leading up to the re-release of their legacy material and upcoming tours.

A classic sounding Gn’R early-vault song would generate a lot more interest than reworked Chinese songs.

Not that I dislike Absurd or Hardschool. They just need some unreleased UYI stuff right now.

  2. This thread makes me want to go back and listen to old catalog again. I don't think I've ever noticed the acoustic guitars in Think About You.

    ...

All the mixing, recording of the drums and cymbals on Appetite-- They don't just sound like drums being banged and crashed-- They're very instrumental and melodic in their own right, if that makes any sense.

Duffs bass tone in general is so distinctive-- From It's So Easy to Hard Skool.

The moaning dolphin guitars in Estranged that lull you in before Slash's solo.

Coma's full of them.. "Zap the son of a bitch again"

The tin can left-to-right phase in If The World-- Then those drums hit with full force in stereo.

The coda in Oklahoma-- Those four little escalating notes in the background are so beautiful.

Old Silkworms intro/ Absurd "just another life slips away"

The George Harrison-esque slide guitars with the ambient "Hey heyys" in Hard Skool. Reminds me of Free as a Bird.

    Honorable mention: Yeah, we're fucked

    It gave me motion sickness.

    How stupid.

Yes— It’s really quite jarring and totally disorienting in parts.

Although I’ve seen plenty of other bands do the same with these overly busy motion graphic lyric videos.

Disappointing that the lyrics (in the lyric video) are obnoxiously illegible, but the rest of it is fine.

There's already been like four commercials for this in the first half of the Cowboys game.

I just saw one of them and had to rewind the tv— I was shocked.

Good morning football isn’t quite the same audience as if they just showed the video during the halftime of this game.

But the tease during the game alone is the most mainstream promotion they’ve received since the reunion.

    Looking forward to the video.

  5. I'm not one to typically complain about the live videos, whether pro shot or fan shot.

They never really do the in arena/stadium mix justice. Soundboard, iem mixes are too unforgiving to be representative of the actual concert experience, etc.

But these Exit 111 are embarrassing. First of all, as a video editor, I notice within the first 20 seconds there's a mistaken flash frame that was just left in there. Very jarring, clearly inadvertent and unprofessional. Who the fuck is editing these??

It's POSSIBLE that was a live error on the part of the live video director at the concert -- and that's all they had to work with-- But unlikely-- And even still, there's ways around that.

then the performances themselves... It's not just Axl. The whole band lacks energy at this point! As if they've been on a neverending tour, and are sick of playing the same shit, over and over.

Like everyone has said. They have plenty of pro-shot stuff from 2016, that probably looks and sounds a lot better than what they've been posting.

Why wait forever, to release mistake laden shit and expose your weaknesses?

Remember what they did with the Apollo show... AFD crosses everywhere, only to have a regular setlist and no Izzy/Steven guest spots.

    Right.

If Steven and Izzy weren't involved then, locally in the states-- I don't see them being flown overseas in the middle of all this for shows that may not even happen/ or be allowed to draw the crowds to make it worth the band's while to split that "fp money" with any former members.

but who knows... It'd be great if it happens.

Would be cool no doubt as the first time Axl and Slash shared the stage since 1993. Wonder how they’d work around Axl breaking his foot on Mr Brownstone. Anyone who was at that show notice he even injured himself?

He kinda jumped up onto one of the monitors on stage, and must've cracked the bone immediately because he just as quickly fell backwards. Got back up, pants split, broken foot and kept fucking going.

I knew the "ought" would get flack, obviously, there's a lot of "oughts"-- but seeing Duff talking about the Troubadour, spurred this post. I had to at least put it out there...

Initially I was thinking they could shoot something new from there, but as you guys have pointed out-- There already is footage from the 2016 show and streaming that odyssey would probably fetch more interest. People would certainly pay to watch the April Fools show.

For as many greats that have played there, Gn'R is probably the most prolific band to have played their very first shows there.

Technically it's in West Hollywood, but more broadly LA City/County officials have not been very kind to historical properties... the wrecking ball has become very popular.. The Sunset Strip is nearly unrecognizable, with spots like Viper Room, Tower already in jeopardy of being torn down and turned into high rises.. I've worked with local preservation groups and getting historical landmark status is tougher, than one would expect, even for such a classic venue.

It would be a fucking travesty if the Troubadour closed it's doors.

  8. Last night, Los Angeles KCAL 9 did a piece on the Troubadour being in danger of closing for good as a result of the pandemic.

I didn't catch the whole thing but they interviewed Duff. I don't know if it was new or really what was said.

They haven't posted it online yet but this is their sister station's month-old report on the Troubadour Go Fund Me.

    https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2020/05/06/troubadour-gofundme-coronavirus-west-hollywood/

Got me thinking though. What if they did a live set from the empty Troubadour?

Do a kickass warm up gig like 2016.

Help a classic venue stay open.

    Promote the hopefully upcoming tour/album/etc.

    Just sayin'...

Huge problem can be with large amounts of bass/sub bass. Daft Punk has problems with skipping on certain tracks; the deep curve for the bass notes and cause the needle to jump

Hmm, I've never heard about anything like that. Then again the only DP records are I have Random Access Memories and the Tron Legacy Soundtracks. Adding to that, there's a whole world of issues that I probably don't know of lol

Chris Pitman and his sub-bass strike again!

  10. There were plenty of poor pressings that came out at launch. The one I got had issues.

The album itself is really dynamic and well mixed, which got some high praise in the time of Death Magnetic loudness. I've mainly listened on CD and there are so many layers, you can hear something new everytime you listen.

I watched the Outlaw episode when it was on during it's original run last year. I thought it was awesome.

One of the best things they've done in awhile. It gave me a much greater appreciation for Kris Kristofferson. I haven't caught the whole series but it's interesting looking back on that era of country and how mainstream it was, still scrutinized by many-- But without being hokey. It was authentic, fucking heartfelt, well crafted and produced. This mainstream stuff today, is like parody party music. Makes Cletus T. Judd look modest.

The zenith had to be the 90's, but even then it was getting goofy-- guys trying to make wacky music videos for airtime.

  12. I'm rolling with CDs in the car. I never thought that would become antiquated, but here we are.

Most iPods I've had pretty much bit the dust in the battery department fairly quickly after warranty (planned obsolescence).

Had a classic iPod years ago. Certainly one of the best products of the 00's. Eventually the battery had to be replaced, then the motherboard went out some time later. That thing was a beast though. If you wanted to get tricky you could even play a few games on there. Phase was the music/ rhythm game that used your own tunes.

Had two or three iPod touches. Battery went to hell on them. One I still have, only works if plugged in-- Which is even difficult because the lightning port's worn out, and it's gotta be firmly held in, in just the right way...

I agree with others on disliking the user interfaces on phones, or big touch screens period. The phone is fine for podcasts, but I miss having a high capacity portable music player on the go ( in conjunction with a flip phone)

Does anyone have a Zune or Neil Young's Pono?

Just brought On the Beach vinyl during the lockdown. What a zinger, Revolution Blues, great great tune. Any recommendations for post 1990 (Ragged Glory) Neil aside from Le Noise. Never got into his later stuff.

On The Beach is such good album-- Top to bottom. Neil has put out so much, I've barely scratched the surface of his later works.

As others have said Psychedelic Pill is a great throwback, but personally Greendale & Are You Passionate -- are my favorite recent albums of his. Not every song is a hit, but I would bet there's at least one or two tracks that would resonate with any Neil fan.

Wasn't Harvest Moon in the 90's? I don't remember the whole album but that single is right up there with his best. Also Philadelphia and Out of Control on the CSNY reunion album. Very touching and sentimental.
