These were the type of arguments I was making a couple of years ago. Surprised to see people like Reich come on board as soon as Musk buys Twitter...

    What a total dickhead.

You have to be a fool (or just have your head up your political tribe's ass way too hard) to be upset about the Elon news. There is no drawback - I think some people are acting as if he is completely anti content moderation, which isn't the case. I'm pretty doubtful that he'll be able to improve it that much, but Twitter either gets slightly better or a lot better here.

If nothing else, Twitter's reputation (which has fallen especially after the Hunter laptop suppression) gets better, which is good in general.

Before the above, i would love a poll with the standalone official released tracks, soundtracks, b sides eg (Sympathy for the devil, Oh my god, Absurd, Hardskool, shadow of your love etc)

Do we put Perhaps and Atlas Shrugged in there too?

    also, state of grace?

  3. Great songs: Songs I will intentionally listen to for a long time
    1) White Braids & Pillow Chair
    2) Shes a Lover
    3) The Heavy Wing
    4) Its only Natural
    5) Bastards of Light

Pretty Good Songs: Will throw on for some time

    6) Veronica (anyone peep that She's So Heavy chord progression in the outro?)
    7) Here Ever After - This song doesn't hit hard for me, but the band sounds so at ease in this song that it makes me feel good
    8) Not the One - I actually love the instrumentation of this song, especially Flea's bassline at the end, which fun fact was supposed to be the vocal melody
    9) One Way Traffic - yeah yeah it's a dumb song. This might not last.

Alright Songs: Never going to throw on, but not skipping
    10) Black Summer - Might be higher if not for Anthony's folk accent
    11) Whatchu Thinkin - like John's guitar parts, not much else
    12) Poster Child - Way too long, and RHCP has done this song 1 if not 2 times already but better (Walkabout comes to mind)
    13) Aquatic Mouth Dance - This would be a great live jam. I want to like it more.

    Bad songs: Will likely skip

    14) The Great Apes - Some cool parts, don't like the verses, a bit simplistic or something
    15) These Are the Ways - Anthony terrible
    16) Let 'Em Cry
    17) Tangelo

It seems I have a thoroughly different look on CD than most of you. I hope IRS doesn't get voted off yet! I really really like that song, even if the lyrics are a bit ridiculous.

And If the World has that bit where Axl goes from the left ear to the right ear in your headphones  I can only conclude people voting it off have never listened to it through headphones

Also agree that the “la, la da da…” part should’ve kept ITW around for at least one more round

  5. I’ve now listened to all 4 Rick Rubin interviews with the band members. Surprisingly, Chad Smiths interview might’ve been the most interesting. I definitely recommend throwing them on at least as background noise.

I’ll try and do a song tier list today

  6. Shacklers is a swing at something out of GNR’s wheelhouse that IMO actually does land. The genre they were going for, while you might not be a fan of it, they nailed it. It’s a solid nu metal with a catchy hook and some impressive shredding. By the time 2008 rolled around this music was way out of style which made it even weirder as a GNR song, but this is not a bad song and I’m surprised to see it disliked so much.

I’m still voting CD, I think it’s a boring song that doesn’t show off Axl’s vocals or sense of melody.

This was what I was trying to say re: the mix of "Rhiad" in yesterday's thread. I know a lot of people don't like the "layers" on Chinese Democracy, but none of them bother me on any of the other songs. This is the exception. I still think it's a B-/C+ tier song even in older mixes, but the power of the riff rings much clearer in older versions. The one that ended up on the album sounds absolutely muddy, and no instruments get a chance to shine.

For sure. By the time the song got to the album there was no longer a discernible riff. I have to try pretty hard to hear the bass (this is a CD problem in general). The mix also doesn’t do justice to the cool drumming going on.

  8. I’ve always liked Riad. The intro is ridiculous and the lyrics suck (though they’re apparently about someone really interesting, according to that note he wrote) but the song has some really great vocals including one of Axl’s highest notes near the end - “sweet salVAAAAAtion”. This song suffers a lot from the instruments being buried amongst each other. It’s hard to pick out what’s actually happening. I always felt it sounded quite modern (at the time…)

I voted Chinese Democracy. This song has never impressed me. It was cool in 2002 when it was sorta grungey, but IMO lost its identity the more it got worked on. It starts with a generic riff (rock you like a hurricane adjacent), has lackluster vocals (especially live, axl sounds like he’s trying to take a shit when singing the chorus), and also not good lyrics. I like the solos and outro, but this song doesn’t melodically grab me at all.

I felt that JF took over stadium arcadium too much at times.

I'm very glad he has cut back on the falsetto backing vocals - he went way overboard with that on SA.

I feel so different. I straight up tell people, only joking a little bit, that RHCP is about the backing vocals!

To me, By the Way is John taking over too much (still a great album, just a bit too pretty for what I want from RHCP). SA is a good balance for me, with John being very prominent but it still feeling like the band’s effort. He’s one of my favorite musicians. That’s why this album disappoints me, but at the same time I do enjoy that I can clearly hear how much of a band effort this album is.

Look Around and Hump De Bump better than Black Summer? Are you for real?

I’d agree on the basis of Anthony’s accent in Black Summer alone

just noticed Turn it Again being at the bottom - troll list!
