  1. Yes, I give to charity but I'm not a millionaire or famous, so don't want to discuss it.

One habit I will share though, is that I carry around a woolly hat and a pair of gloves around with me, so if I don't have any cash on me, I can give homeless people something if they do need it. I think those are useful things to have on you anyway, in case someone you're with is chilly.

That's a great idea. Once in a while I pick up some coffee cards and give them out, but warm hats and gloves are always needed and also easy to carry around in winter.

Yeah, I've given money to WWF and two local organisations in my home town. One called Heart To Heart and the other one basically "The City Mission". It's not much I give and it's not regularly any more since my economy is shittier than a few years ago. Haven't given WWF money in two years, the others get money sporadically.

Heart To Heart is a Christian organisation which helps homeless people here in town, particularly Romanians and people from Bulgaria that are here to beg, but also has a lot of projects around in Eastern Europe. I've been on three charity trips with them too. One to St Petersburg, one to Riga and one to Albania. In St Petersburg we visited a women's prison, gave them some stuff like pillows and blankets, because apparently the Russians don't think they deserve to have those things in prisons and the prison we were in barely had any heating at all, it was really cold there. We also visited an orphanage. In Latvia and Albania we mostly visited families on the country side, helped them out with some money, clothes, shoes, tools as well as visited orphanages in both places.

"The City Mission" is an organisation that's working to help homeless people here in my home town, as well as families with addiction problems. Because although it's law here that the cities must help everyone in town and make sure they aren't homeless there are always people falling through the net in the system. The last 8 years we've had a right winged government too and it has all become a lot worse since with a lot more homeless people. Last year or two we've gotten people from Romania and Bulgaria, mainly gypsies, coming here with the help of their EU passport to beg on our streets. We've got hundreds of them in my town, it's sad. They're sitting there in on spot all day. I used to feel such a disdain for them, but a few weeks ago I saw this young woman, she looked like she was 20, heavily pregnant sitting down outside a store. Sad, sad, sad. I can only imagine how it must hurt for her to sit down on the street like that in her state and it's freezing outside. I guess it was a bit of a revelation for me, because ever since I've pitied them. It really upset me to see that pregnant woman. I used to despise them for being lazy and begging instead of trying to work their way up, but life where they live must be pretty shitty for them to want to sit outside in those conditions all day. At night they have been sleeping under a bridge, because there isn't enough shelters. I read in the local paper two days ago that someone had lent them a house now though, so at least they are inside. The house had no electricity, but they could use an open fireplace in the house to get some warmth up.

At first I thought "Why would he donate to the world wrestling federation." Some days I'm blonder than others.

  2. No, and I don't feel the least bit guilty about it. I worked hard to get where I am and I work hard to make my life comfortable.

Why you even thinking about guilt?
Because most people that talk about charity are doing it for 1 of 2 reasons, to make themselves sound like saints, or make you sound like shit.

Or because they were asked the simple question and decided there was no problem answering.

I'm talking about people that pepper it in whenever they can with a warped sense of superiority. Like vegans.
Can't argue with that. I don't like that either.

So some farmer who makes $2 a day in some 3rd world country doesn't work hard for a living?

Didn't say that, but I won't be guilted into giving away my hard earned money because other people get a raw deal.

I don't think everyone is required to donate money, but I do think everyone should make an effort to do something in supporting your community. May be volunteer work, or shoveling a neighbour's driveway when they cannot, or spending time with a kid who needs a big brother.

  5. Yes, I hink it is important to be charitable. It is one of the ways you participate in your community, if you can. But check them out. Some are dodgy.

I have a few charities that I give to regularly, and yes, I give to the guys in the street. I can so I should, and I want to.

  6. I'm really sorry your grandma is so ill. I don't really understand all the negativity in the thread. It's a really sad thing. Coming to a forum like this to talk about it is somehow helpful because you can talk about it without being as careful as when you talk about it with your family.

So I'm really sorry and I hope you can find some support here.

And as far as doubting if it's true, I read the OP and respond in good faith that it is true. In a case like this, don't you want to give the benefit of the doubt?

  7. I reckon i should get shitposter of the year, not just for this year but for my dedicated commitment to shit-posting throughout my time on this forum. I have blazed a path in the field of shit-posting for others to follow, shit-posting simply would not be the same without my input, I am the Muhammad Ali of mygnrforum shit-posting, I mean just look at my credentials, I've thrown Miser-fits, I've left and comeback...several fucking times, I'm pointlessly horrible to everyone, I've been racist, sexist, age-ist, young kids-ist, fuckin' everybody-ist.

I ramble, i type too much about nonsense, I've been fannying on about the Sex Pistols for about a decade now on this forum, it having been 10 years since i first landed, I say pretty much the same thing to the same questions repeatedly, I go on about a football team like they're the best in the world when they've only won one trophy since 2005.

I've frequently insulted christians, jews, muslims, european people, swedish people, english people, arabs, indians, australians, no stone has been left un-turned in my unerring capaign for total equality of prejudice.

Also, i think my music taste sits over and above all of yourses (cuz it does), I'm arrogant, I'm rude, I repeat myself, I post WAAAAAAY too much and I have the same opinions on the same shit in complete perpetuity, I'm impossible to argue with, quick to anger, unreasonable and, possibly worst than all, thick.

I am heading to the beach in a couple of days and so too happy to be appropriately irreverent to compete for this award.

Therefore, I must throw my support and vote to Lennie, for his consistent dedication to posting shit.
