I must be the only one who likes Bukmle's solos on Shackler and Riad. I actually thought the Shackler one was Bucket, but since I heard studio version of Riad I've loved that solo, it's the best solo on album. Bucket is genius but Ron is underated. If Ron, Dj or Fort bow out I wouldn't say no to Justin Hawkins from The Darkness (Hot Leg) coming in.

the shackler's solo is nice, but i'd be willing to wager that if there were a bucket solo for the song it would not only compliment the song more, it'd be more pleasant to listen to. riad on the other hand, well, rons riad solo is terrible imo. it sounds as if it were just plonked on top of the song, irrespective of theme or its overall contribution to the song itself. its sounds as if axl simply said " ron, play something only shred enthusiasts can appreciate, then when you think you've nailed it, embellish even more and make it ridiculous."

now, bucket may shred, but he does so in such a way that its melodic and serves the song, rather than leaping out of it and screaming "HEY LOOK AT ME IM DOING CRAZY SHIT WITH THE GUITAR, I AM STRUMMING IT WITH A FUCKING XYLOPHONE"

ron may have a unique style; his choice of taping, thimbles, notes and the way in which he applies these techniques to his music may be extremely difficult to replicate, but these things do not necessarily translate into a pleasant sounding solo or riff.

this is exemplified if you compare the two's work on CD: TWAT solo to Riad and the Bedouins solo for example. one is genius, one is nonsense. now, i don't know which of the two solos is more 'technical' or which requires a more extensive array of guitar knowledge to conceive and play, but i do know which one sounds better, and thats bucket.

bucket sounds better to me, i love his work, and he has more charisma on stage. ron has an 'every man' type quality to him, which is endearing, but bucket is larger than life. hes a like an alien entity or foreign life form on stage.

thats why i would prefer it if bucket were in guns; hes a rock deity, an eccentric one obviously, but a rock deity all the same. the same i do not think can be said of ron. which is not necessarily a bad thing, ron is a lovely man, and if i could have my way i would have bucket on lead and ron on rhythm. however, if you're looking for the man that could've replaced slash, bucket was the one.

Because he uses backing tracks for songs that have 2+ layers of vocals on the studio version. The thing is, besides a verse in Shackler's, he's almost always singing the lead vocal over the backing track, so I don't see what the issue is.

Yes but, there's a video where it's clear he's using a backing track on WTTJ. It's one thing to use them because you feel without it, the songs aren't going to be represented correctly. It's another to use them because you're unable or unwilling to rise to the occasion.

Personally, I hate it. I'm disappointed that he's chosen to use them after all these years of keeping it real in concert. I don't think there's any place for it in rock. It's something I expect out of the Jonas Brothers, not Axl Rose. We all know he doesn't need them and imo, he should quit using them ASAP.

Axl has too much pride to play to 5,000 people in a half filled arena in the US. He needs to go back to Europe where they still think this is guns n roses, especially asia. They probably think ashba is slash.

Why are you rofl-ing at that? He himself said he took Brian's solo off catcher because of lack of enthusiasm on the boards for it. It's very likely he's made other major decisions about the new music based on what we've said regarding the leaks. Why is it such a stretch to suggest that after tens and tens of threads on all the boards blasting his 'helium mickey mouse' voice in 2002 that when he came back in 2006 he made an effort to start singing more like he used to in the early 90s?

I don't just think it's likely to be the reason why he decided to start singing in such a damaging way again, I don't think there's any other plausible reason why he would do it. Like I said, the press reviews of the 2002 shows virtually all said 'he's still got the amazing voice' before going on to trash the band. So the press wasn't the reason, with the exception of the reviews of the VMSs where people understanadably said 'his voice is shot' because it sounded like it was gone.

He's said that in 01-02 he was trying a different way of singing and since that way happened to be singing properly without damaging the voice I think it's pretty likely that was the whole point. Why else would he suddenly go back to screeching and screaming and damaging the absolute fuck out of his voice in his late 40s if not because most of us trashed him for singing clean?

Korn were good I guess - pretty much played their well known songs and the sound wasn't awful, but they should probably upgrade their gear.

GNR were good. IMO they were better in 2007, but I think It had something to do the crowd and the sound. Compared to 07, the date, time, support, location were different, so this would've been the main influence. The crowd were more of the bogan pisshead crowd and weren't that loud, and I feel that Korn were louder than Guns. The setlist was pretty much the same. I was hoping that being the last night they would go all Japan show on us

With the Axl lip synching thing - I know that he wouldn't sync a whole show, and he does have some back up vocal track on some songs, but I do feel that on some songs he could be synching the song or parts of a song. Either that or the oxygen tank does some wierd things, because sometimes he comes back on stage and fucking kills it, or comes back on stage and sounds like he is 80. And then if he sings a few in a row he is inconsistant with voice. Maybe it was the sound in general, Im not sure..

Ashba is great acquisition. Not technically a master, but a good showman and someone who is easy to warm to. Sometimes he hams it up too much, but yeah, Axl doesn't seem to mind. Bumbelfoot certainly took the back seat but was still great. Kudos to Tommy for coming back to back to Perth after a funeral.

All in all a good show, though if you had've been to the 07 shows, you wouldn't have missed much.
