  1. on a more serious, less hysterical note, is there a possibility he played a new/unheard song for this audience? i mean, if you're going to pay the man $1 million surely you're in the position to request some special treatment - not withstanding the obvious 'you're getting special treatment just by having him there' of course.

  2. lol? wait, wait, wait that son of a bitch gets paid to do this shit? uhh i feel icky all over, you mean this whole time, this WHOLE TIME!?!?!??! HE GETS PAID TO PLAY LIVE SHOWS?!?!?!??! I JUST CANT FUCKING TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  3. I honestly think the 2001 'Freak Show' lineup would have taken the world by storm if it had not been called Guns N Roses. It was such a unique band with an awesome sound.

i agree, definitely the most interesting lineup aesthetically and musically.

  4. I am sure this has been discussed before but I haven't seen any productive discussion regarding the cartoon+exorcist intro in 2001 at rock in rio. The cartoon itself seems to be laden with clumsy symbolism, as does the significance of the exorcist quote, but what does it reveal about Ax's state of mind at the time, and GNR? What message was he trying to get out via the cartoon+quote? Obviously there was a motivation behind the cartoon, a creative force, it's too nonsensical and metaphoric just to be 'a bit of fun.'

To this day that period in his life(late 90's/early 2000's), that band and that cartoon, are just so enigmatic and mysterious to me. So, what messages do you think are hidden within the cartoon, and what do they mean? eg. The alien, the midget, the weird "I think I shit myself" line. As an artist and lyricist Axl often uses symbolism, metaphor etc. hes a very poetic person, that's why I think these almost totemic images in the cartoon must have been/still are relevant in some way to a message or point of view he wanted to share.

to those who don't know what im talking about heres the vid

  5. i've always wondered about this. in 2001 he looked different to the way he did in 2002, something about the eyes and overall look of his face. now, and in 2006, not withstanding the mustache/braids, he looks exactly like you would expect him to at the age that he is - completely natural. there was just something 'off' about that 2001-2002' period, and illness could be the explanation for that.

  6. I agree his voice sounds great, unfortunately half the songs he is singing aren't any good.

i know, the old songs are really ruining the show! HAHA GET IT

    fucking idiot

  7. i was thinking this thread was about something else.

seriously, we should set up a mygnr x-mas drive for underpriveleged kids. I would put up $50 right now, and $5-10 every week, over the weeks leading up to X-Mas.

    underprivileged black kids you mean.
  8. After one listen of King Nothing, you know all you need to know. That song was written about Axl.

Not so sure about that. The song was recorded in 1994, while Axl was still the king of the castle.

Nirvana,Soundgarden,Alice In Chains,Red Hot Chili Peppers,NIN,Pearl Jam and the entire Seattle movement would probably disagree with you on that one. By 1994, MTV and American youth had already moved far beyond Axl Rose.

Besides, I'm pretty sure King Nothing was confirmed to be about Axl. I remember reading about it in Metallica's forum years ago.

Hadn't they just finished the longest tour in history? A lot of which was in the states. While temporarily the focus shifted if Guns had put out a proper album in 95-96 they would have been all over the U.S. media. Thats just a fact. The record company was begging them to do a record. Hardly seems like something the suits would do for a band that had no marketability.

That tour ended in 1993. Were you alive back then? Were you in high school? In America, no one was wearing Guns N Roses shirts anymore. Just bringing up the name Axl Rose got you laughed at. We all had greasy hair, torn baggy jeans, converse and Nirvana shirts on. MTV and the entire youth culture had shifted by this point. Guns N Roses were thought of as "your dads music" and they were no longer "cool" by any stretch of the imagination. Lollapalooza was all the rage.....it was a different era by that point. Seattle had taken over and won in America.

    lies, all lies.
  9. I was thinking oh dear before clicking on this thread but to be fair this is a good article. As for axl searching the Internet for his name...WTF?

please tell me you do not believe anything this jabroni is saying?

Actually, this isn't the first time it was reported that Axl does this. Someone else said before (I think Rolling Stone reported it in that old article from a decade or so ago) that Axl would sit in bed surfing the Internet on his laptop looking to see what was being said about him. Is it that surprising? Even when he finally made his appearance here, he referenced users and their posting histories which certainly seemed indicative that he was familiar with who was saying what here over the years.

umm no, this rumor is solely perpetrated by Mick Wall, sorry.
  10. i don't think anyone's saying it's okay to throw bottles. can't axl and the bottle throwers both be assholes in this situation?

i feel axl makes a bad situation worse by handling it the way he does. instead of addressing the problem -- one or two drunk assholes -- he addresses the crowd as a whole. it's all of them. they're all his enemies. he'll proudly tell them all to fuck off if one more bottle is thrown. why not pause the show, turn the lights on the crowd, ask them to identify who's throwing the bottle, have them ejected, and then thank your crowd. now you're all on the same team.

    ^ This.

This is definitely true and something I've thought of before. Why chastise and punish an entire audience because of a couple assholes? The ratio of people throwing things to people not throwing things was probably quite disproportional...

Because it's completely irrelevant what the ratio is? All it takes is one person throwing something to hurt someone like Duff was hurt back in the day (1993 or so). That's all it takes. Honestly, if that was you on stage, would you really take that risk?

    Ali

Yeah, if I were going out on stage billed as the most dangerous rock band in the world

Where is the ad that says they're the most dangerous band in the world? Sturgis? obviously handled by Sturgis promotion, is there an ad for the Euro tour that pegs them as the dangerous band in the world? If so, would Axl have been responsible for it? Its totally irrelevant.

  11. I'm impressed. Looks like a killer show/set despite the intial problems with bottle throwing. Also sounds like most of the crowd came back and had a blast at the rest of the show. I give major credit for Axl for not doing like his old ways and just leaving. They came back and delivered the full show that fans came to see.

Of course, the media is only going to pick up on the negative things.

are they? or are the obsessive fans on the internet only going to pick up on the positive things?

so far, the tour was cancelled via twitter and rescheduled, reading got aborted, leeds was cancelled by axl from the sage and rescheduled, this last show started late too, then ended early because pissed off fans were throwing shit at axl. i mean, if all these things happened in a row at a lady gaga concert, everyone around here would be making fun of her for being an incompetent twit.

for instance, to a non-gnr obsessive, those recent youtube links sound like axl's out of breath and out of tune. but internet obsessives will say, "yeah, but his passion is incredible!" and they're right too. axl's passion is incredible.

michael jackson fanboards are full of people who still think he didn't rape any kids. they focus on the positive. because they're fans.

The show was not ended early. The show was delayed, yes, but completed. And, while Axl's pitch hasn't been perfect from what I've heard from these recent shows (via YouTube), he hasn't been consistently out of tune like you make it out to be.

As much as fans focus on the positive aspects, haters focus on the negative aspects. It goes both ways.

    Ali

you'll have to forgive me. i haven't been able to dedicate enough time to watching every youtube video shot so far on this tour. i've clicked on a few that people were raving about, and i wasn't exactly bowled over. but it's nice to hear that he sounds better on some other songs.

but to me, this debate seems like another example of you, an obsessive internet fan, trying to focus on the positive. while it's awesome to think that axl can still sing some songs well at a show, you may be surprised to know that many other singers (especially those on axl's level) can perform an entire concert on pitch, in tune and without running out of breath. and if they couldn't, they'd practice, diet and exercise until they could.

again, if lady gaga sang that poorly on that many songs a night, i doubt the fans around here would be trying to hard too focus on the positive.

One hopes you're trolling, you've got 4500 posts on said 'internet forum' yet you're oh so 'holier-than-thou' with your "these obsessive internet fans need to remove the cotton wool and take a look at the big picture(like I have) " what a sanctimonious, walking contradiction and down right fucking idiot you are.
  12. I've only seen Homme and Maynard from your list and I found both of them to be fairly boring. Your list does drive home the fact that bands of today suck balls and don't compare to past decades.

typical response of somebody still in the "dad rock" phase

you don't know what you're missing

    no, hes right, they do.
  13. Not anymore, but he's got a whole new generation of younger more energetic frontmen to compete with

Back in the late 80's, early 90's, he was king

He does? Could you name even one guy from the 00's that can compete with (old) Axl?

He was specifically referring to the current Axl, not "old Axl." So asking him to come up with names for people better than Axl in his prime when he just said that Axl in the '80s and '90s "was king" is a bit pointless.

    thank you

but I will answer the question, well the version of the question that would make sense "who is a better frontman than Axl today?"

    Jacob Bannon - Converge

Josh Homme - Queens of the Stone Age / Them Crooked Vultures

    Tom Gabel - Against Me!

Greg Puciato - Dillinger Escape Plan

    Adam Senko - The Armed

Cedric Bixler Zavala - The Mars Volta[

Mike Patton - Faith No More / a ton of other shit

Thomas Erak - The Fall of Troy

    Frank Carter - Gallows

Keith Buckley - Every Time I Die

Maynard James Keenan - Tool / A Perfect Circle

Claudio Sanchez - Coheed & Cambria

to name a few in my opinion

none of which who could really hold a candle to Axl in the late 80's or early 90's

sorry but i actually lol'd and spilled my tea at the very sight of some of those names. the bolded ones are the only acceptable suggestions and you try too hard.

  14. Just to play devil's advocate... If the roles were reversed and Axl had "allegedly" thrown a paper at someone, and his lawyer denied it had happened, people would be saying how the press loves to demonize and lie about Axl. But the same thing happens to Azoff and nobody seems to mind it; in fact, you're mocking him.

Not saying it didn't happen...just saying you shouldn't rush to conclusions based on second-hand reporting.

Really this is the thread you post in?

WIth all the racist and homophobic rhetoric that has been posted on this board lately...and you as a mod are posting here?.........I love you as a poster, but seriously?

    Where's Madison.

anyone else sick of this idiot constantly saying 'this isnt politicaly correct, boohoo, Axl called madison a lesbian, boohoo, People are making jokes about gays, boohoo, the world will end in 2 years, boohoo, the interwebz is my whole life boohoo

Get the fuck over it, now your telling the moderators here , how to do their job? while your at it, why dont you just ask the admin to whipe your ass for you?

fucking princess, grow the fuck up or log the fuck out.

its because hes black. that and the fact that he still hasn't gotten over one and a million.
