Was finally able to give everything (I think?) a listen.
All the instrumentals certainly leave more to be desired. I enjoyed them, but it makes me wonder if when Baz said there were three albums worth of material, if all those songs he heard actually had vocals on them.
Hearing all these slight variations on the songs that actually made it to CD is neat I guess, but we've been doing this for two decades now. The constant stream of nuances of each of Axl's hired hands is tiresome at this point.
At any rate, it was refreshing to finally hear more than just, "All cautions made, every chance was given, no effort spared, to save what we had." Hardschool had a vintage Rumbo Tapes vibe to it, and I can totally see why it was left off of CD--it really wouldn't have fit. Phenomenal song.
This is the best batch of leaks we've gotten since the old days, but that's not saying much when comparing it to BITW and Silkworms. Maybe CD was, for the most part, the best of what Axl had to offer? For years so many GNR fans have been holding out that Axl is sitting on stockpiles of absolutely soul crushing songs, and that's probably just not the case.
Since there will never be a new album, I'll see y'all in 2024 when Oklahoma with vocals leaks.

since slash has rejoined GNR he is as credible as dj ashba was in these type of proclamations
axl has the band exactly how he wants it since taking over the name
meaning anyone besides him doesn't have the slightest clue if they will produce and release something
I'm more inclined towards this line of thinking.
It's still Axl's decision at the end of the day whether anything will be released. Even if Slash redoes some tracks recorded by Tobias, or Buckethead, or Finck, or Bumblefoot, or Ashba--so what? Axl's had material for the better part of two decades that still hasn't been released, and maybe I'm just not imaginative enough, but I fail to see how Slash providing his input will finally allow those tracks (Checkmate, General, Atlas Shrugged, et cetera ad infinitum) to see the light of day. The same can be said of Duff--does anybody think Axl will release "Going Down" so long as it's Duff on vocals?
I'll be more hopeful if at the very least a new song is played in concert, let alone having a single released, album name, release date, etc. But Slash saying what so many have said before doesn't give me much hope.

Maybe they are jelous or envy her for being there because GNR is a legendary band. I see a lot of hate toward her (specially on periscopes), I don`t think she deserves that. I read on social media that she is nice with people and very thankful for being in the band.
Also, she is not a teenager. for what said other poster here, she is in the mid. 30s.
In my opinion she is talented and a complete artist: not only is multi instrumentalist, she also sings and helps in the programming department.
The most important thing is that if the guys (Axl, Slash and Duff) hired her to the band, is their decision.
Can you tell me your opinion of DJ Ashba so I can know whether or not I should right you off forever.

The only love for females I have in GN'R was Tracey and Roberta. I don't really see the rationale behind letting Pitman go, but my god, did we get to see how much of a bitch he was when he was let go with the whole "FU moneygrab tour" comment. I don't see the need for a second keyboard in the first place, they're making it just fine with 2 guitarists instead of 3, so I think they could live with just Dizzy. It's not like we're going to be hearing CD stuff that requires two keyboards anyway.
In regards to Melissa, the sentiment of most concert goers when I was at the Houston show was "who's that bitch?" She just looks out of place with a bunch of 50 year old rockers. Plus she's easily forgettable, which is probably a good thing: I don't even remember if Axl introduced her at the show, and I'm speaking from both physically being there and re-watching the show on film; I even googled her a couple days ago, and I had already forgotten her name until this thread came along.

2006 was spectacular. Axl had control over his vocals. 2009 Japan shows and the 2010 tour was Axl getting all of the, "Chinese Democracy didn't fucking sell, and nobody understands me, and I miss my braids, and my Tobias, and where did these 35 pounds come from?" out of his system. All I have to say is 2009 Nightrain, and you all know what exactly I'm talking about. Axl wasn't singing, he was screaming bloody murder into the mic; to this day I still believe Axl permanently damaged his vocal chords during the 2010 tour. What I'm most pissed about is that I took it for granted--I think a lot of us did, and we realized it as soon as soon as a yellow raincoat hit the stage.
(The fact that I'm even talking about this makes me feel fucking ancient. I remember watching the videos in 2006 as they were being uploaded to YouTube).
I don't think Axl will ever be able to get back to 2006/2010 form. However, I can say with ease that everything he's doing now is better than 2011-2014. Off the top of my head, I can think of two vocal highlights from that era: 2012 in Philly, and some of the screams on Prostitute and TWAT at the last Vegas Residency. 99% of everything else was Bridge School level shit.
At the end of the day, I'm just happy Axl's 3 year long "sore throat" has been healed.

First post here in a long time; I recognize some faces, don't recognize others, so, hi. I lurked around here during leaking season in 2006, and joined in 2010. Axl got me in the divorce and I've been very critical of Slash on these boards in the past, and I actually enjoyed Chinese Democracy (gasp!). However, I've also joined in on being critical of Axl's Mickey Mouse voice and general fatness.
Credentials aside, I saw the boys last night in Houston. I've never believed people on this board that say, "It sounds different when you're there," in regards to Axl's voice, but guys, it totally sounds different when you're there. I apologize to anyone I've lambasted for that comment in the past. I felt like the clean voice only came into play on a few occasions throughout the night, but upon listening to the videos I took, that was not the case. KOHD was not all that great on the video, but live it was killing. Better was the only song I wasn't digging while I was there, everything else sounded as if it were powerful 2010 Axl, even though I know now that wasn't the case. I haven't been paying much attention to their setlists, or this tour in general, so hearing Double Talkin' Jive was a surprise. PC sounded better than it did from 2011-2014. Estranged was average, but I was still freaking out because it's my favorite song; same scenario with Coma. I also felt he really killed CITR and Out Ta' Get Me, though I didn't take any shots from those songs, so I can't be sure how he sounds on film. The Seeker was great, as per usual.
I'm sure people have already talked about Axl stopping NR over his broken piano, but continuing on anyway. That was funny, and I'm glad he didn't go 1992 on our asses.
I gotta say, all that pettiness from the past about Slash kinda just drifted away once I was there. Being right there in front of him, and seeing him and Axl smile together side by side--I felt the magic again. I haven't taken the time to read through this thread or talk with anybody about the show as I didn't want my commentary to be influenced in any way. I really enjoyed it, and even though I wasn't planning on going initially, I'm glad I did.

More than anything I'm just kinda glad this whole ordeal is over.
Exactly this!
At this point I'm content with certainty over rumours.

This is an odd story. I agree with one of the first posts in the thread in that one would think this would have been reported the next day. To be fair though, Axl has done stuff like this before, so I don't deny that this happened. I do, however, think it's foolhardy to think we'll ever hear this new masterpiece. And the way the dude described it...fucking just get ready for a sadder version of TIL.
Always knew they would become a vegas act
You just hit me right in the feels. I've been suppressing that thought for years now but I think I'm finally ready to admit that that is the case.

Bumble is the better guitar player, I don't think there is any question about that. I like the DJ version of Better, but that's all we have to go on. I don't really like his solo's and I don't think the way he plays guitar goes with Axl. I think Bumble is just better suited and would be able to create a more seamless album.
I would rather see an Axl/Robin album...erm, or at least another one...before I would want a Axl/DJ or Axl/Bumble album though if I'm being completely honest.

People buy multiple copies in the hopes that Axl will see the sales numbers and perhaps want to release more music in the future. I suppose people see it as an "investment" in a future product. (This is the added "benefit").
If a new album were to be released, I can see myself buying multiple copies. Sometimes an insane band requires insane fans.

I didn't like it, up until I heard the snippet of the leaked studio clips.
Exactly how I feel. I've been saying that song is shit for years, but that leak sounded excellent.

My vote goes towards "pussy full of maggots," and "don't ya' try to stop us now, I just refuse, don't ya' try to stop us now, cuz I just won't let you." Honorable mention to the chorus of I.R.S., good music, Axl sounds great on the track, but what he's singing is absolute shit.
songs ≠ lyrics
blood in the water
Found an exception to the rule.

Why were TM and Broski banned?
Why were TM and Broski banned?
Because they broke forum rules
Holy crap! I leave for a week and they get banned, and the ghost of admin's past messes with Manets.

What do you think of this Trilogy of songs SOD, Better, TWAT - how does it match up against the Illusion trilogy?
maybe This I Love and Prostitute also considered.
Then its a pentalogy then; I don't think there is any doubt that they are all about Seymour. Don't Cry/November Rain/Estranged still hold their own against those five songs, even though TWAT is probably in my top ten GN'R tracks. The CD songs are good, but the UYI songs are legendary.
I think they just make shit up as they go along.
I have yet to really make a comment on the "THIS I LOVE IS THE WORST FUCKING SONG EVER" type of threads because I haven't really been able to express my sentiments for the song. Your post sums it up, "This I Love" seems like an awkwardly ad-libbed song.

Hail Hail! It was only a matter of time.
-
In my ever fluctuating top ten GN'R songs at the moment. Love everything about the song, lyrics, vocals, whistling, guitar. GN'R Lies was Axl's raw baritone voice at its best.

Fans would just hate him for not making new music with Slash.
FUCK! Axl can't win can he?
*Axl finally reunites with Slash, against all odds, and tours the world again*
"Yeah, but why didn't they record new music?"
Geez, you could send people free Benjamin's and they'd complain the bill isn't crisp enough.
You guys are just being sarcastic, right?
Axl has released one album in the last 20 years. He helped break up the greatest rock band of all time, fought tooth and nail to keep the name/brand GnR alive................for what? A revolving door of musicians and one album.
The overwhelming majority of fans would love a GnR reunion. The overwhelming majority of fans would love a new album from the current band. There is a small minority of people who will complain no matter what he does - that's part of life, part of every band or artist, it isn't mysteriously tied to Axl.
People that focus on the minority of complainers spread just as much negativity to the forums as those people they are complaining about.
**********
But to answer your first question. Yes, Axl can win. Put out music more often than once every 20 years. Communicate occasionally with fans. Change up the set-list a bit during tours. And do a couple interviews a year. That's all he has to do to "win." Pretty simple stuff.
Yeah, I was under the impression we were both being sarcastic.
I'm in agreement with you.

I'm actually kind of shocked that the label hasn't gone after Axl for breach of contract, or something or the other. It's my understanding that GN'R is still under contract to produce more album(s). (I've yet to get a clear answer from anybody showing how much music GN'R still owes the label). If they ever decide to, I imagine we'll just get GHII, instead of CDII, like ProstituteComa said.
Even at that, new music is more likely to happen, whether in the form of leaks or if Ax actually releases new stuff through the label. The grudge with Slash will go to the grave, and he's made that clear in actions and in words. With new music, Axl has kinda made that clear with actions, but has definitely left the door open with his words, and lack thereof.

All this did was make me appreciate 2006 even more.

In a recent interview Gilby told Eddie Trunck that Duff wanted Axl to make peace or something like that , I'm not sure anybody got the video ?
Gilby starts talking about GN'R around 14 minutes or so. He says that Duff is the one who wants to make peace between the "two camps," and that he doesn't know if Duff constructing that bridge is supposed to lead to something in the future.

"We discussed all this last April as we flew kites in Singapore. I decided against bringing my mom with us, so I saved him a little trouble."
huh? who is "we"?
It was a joke. Chris 55 quoted my post and added on that Slash and I go to the park and fly kites and talk about Axl.
I was just keeping the joke alive.
Chris Cornell Cover of "Patience" Dropping Tomorrow
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS

Chris's voice was/is one of the best ever and I thoroughly enjoy anything he did, including the controversial album Scream. This cover sounded very Higher Truth-esque, and would've fit in on that album nicely.
This cover was not anywhere near as good as Axl's: the lack of whistling threw me off and I was expecting Chris to really go hard on the last verse.
At any rate, fortunate to have new music from Chris.
