I think Axl is one of the greatest of all time actually. It's clear that he is better with the old group, however. I'd be curious to know who wrote which lines of particular songs. What I've always liked about Axl's writing is that I can relate. The fucked up childhood, the unrequited love, the depression, the anguish, the suicidal thoughts, the middle finger to the world and the rugged individualism. When Ax puts words to paper, I feel like he is taking pages out of my book.

I think what makes Dead Horse so great is when the tape rewinds at the very end of the song, it instantly puts more power into "Sick of this life, Not that you'd care, I'm not the only one, With whom these feelings I share."

I prefer to think Axl's creative peak was around the time of CD's initial recording and that maybe the best is yet to come. I know CD gets a lot of flak for TIL, CD, ITW, but there are some really good lyrics on the record. They are just different. I find CD lyrics to be more "beautiful" and definitely more mature. These are all definitely written by a man in his late 30's.

I could never quite understand the stigma of how Axl was a bad songwriter, because I've yet to find one who is better.

Slash doesn't hate Axl. He LOVES Axl.
I don't agree with this statement at the moment, but at one point and time I think I would have.
After Slash was kept out of the Hard Rock 14 years ago, he went on a radio show. He jokingly called Axl "that little bastard" and didn't seem too bothered by the whole ordeal.
It seems to me like this was all something that Slash thought would just blow over after a little while, and once he realized that wasn't the case, he went full on passive aggressive.

everyone is speculating but no evidence ever surfaced other than him leaving the band that was becoming the joke it is today.
As the other person said, I belive all members up to 1994 feel sorry for Axl rather than hate him. including Matt, Gilby, Adler.
We won't ever know until Axl comes out with an autobiography.
I choose to speculate that something happened, along with most everybody else. I don't believe deep down that Axl is insane enough to hold a grudge against Slash for no reason.

This, as of late, has struck me as one of those things where one person doesn't know what he/she did wrong, thus angering the other person even more.
I don't think Slash has a lick of hate towards Axl, and while Axl has mellowed out a bit, he still would never want to be in the same room as Slash.

'06 RAR was stellar. It's impossible to even come close with Axl nowadays. If they do headline RAR '15, I really hope it isn't their first show. Last thing we need is another proshot RIR disaster.

That's funny, refusing to call it quits when the UYI lineup fell apart but stubbornly labouring on despite all the problems -- including those caused by his own shortcomings -- to continue with his vision of the band, speaks of integrity to me
And what would that "vision" be exactly? playing the same setlist filled with old Guns songs over an over and never releasing new music?.................that speaks integrity to you?......................really?

That entire night sucked. I didn't particularly like that performance of that song.
Someone posted a video a while back of Axl's monitor mix of Don't Let It Bring You Down from Zepp in 2012. I said it was absolute shit. I've since changed my mind and actually really enjoy the performance.
I just can't find myself to ever like anything about Bridge School.

Surely I'm not the only Tesla fan here, but I looked around and didn't see a thread for their new album.
Has anyone else given it a listen? Same great Tesla sound, they have been able to preserve their sound for so long now. They still sound as good to me as they did in 1990.
