Thank goodness it’s awful. Didn’t feel like worrying about getting one. With this heat and GA tickets. Each Wrigley shows I was really, really expecting/hoping for a baseball theme. They went with Big League Chew last time. How do you not use the ivy, the brick, the marquee, etc? United Center show has a great one (Michael Jordan inspired).

Merch truck tees are of a shit quality too..my Glastonbury one isn't that great..poor print onto a Gildan cheap shirt

My Athens tee is OK. But years back when I copped a Chicago tee, it was such garbage I sent it back for refund. The Athens one, IDK. The print is soft. It might end up peeling or fading. But I do like this one.

Okay, so now, after two performances ... this song doesn't work live - at least on in the way Axl does it. Even the verses are bad, he sounds like he's just shouting them. The chorus is a mess.

If you told me that he never tried to sing it before the first performance I would absolutely believe you. Especially since he said that "I'll have to figure out how to sing it".

The chorus 100% needs to be split up. Either do the lyrics or the All Alone-part, both doesn't work.

I’m shocked he goes for both. I’d be more into Duff and Dizzy handling the low register part with Melissa and Axl singing “you’re all alone.”

It’s been days now, Perhaps has been on YouTube and available on streaming services. But I don’t know about you guys in your city, but here in Montreal, the local rock station hasn’t played it once….. Am I missing something??

I don’t listen to radio, really. I’m not sure Chicago even has a rock station that plays new rock music. There’s one that plays classic rock. So right now, for example, it’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Then there’s another station that’s alt rock. They seem to play older stuff too. I see Gotye “Somebody That I Used to Know” and “Blitzkrieg Bop” recently played.

The best rock station we have is probably WXRT, but they don’t play bands like GNR. And honestly, I am not sure why. They play Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Death Cab, Smashing Pumpkins, Ramones. Bunch of new and old stuff mixed in.

Therein lies the problem with legacy acts and new music. Chicago is a huge city and doesn’t have a radio station that plays new rock music. So I didn’t expect “Perhaps” to be on the radio, really. I wonder if it’s getting rotation on any Sirius stations.

If they were going to keep anything from Robin, it should’ve been those guitar bend licks in the pre-choruses. They really added to the track and would’ve sounded great alongside the ascending synth lines that replaced them

I do like the weepy nature of the guitar in the verses and then the pre-chorus of the locker leak. But there is also something messy about it. Not the way Finck is playing. More so there is just too much going on in the mix. A cacophony of sound, if you will. The studio release allows Axl’s vocals to breathe a bit before that killer chorus. It’s more piano keys and bass.

  6. I said this in the big “Perhaps” thread, but Finck’s solo wouldn’t fit on the studio version. Slash’s matches the vibe of the studio song based on the new riffing in the verses and amped up bass. The song has become groovier overall, which is something the classic GNR was always known for.  Conversely, the guitar in verses of the locker leak is more screechy and lends itself well to the guitar bends solo.

The studio version sounds cleaner, less messy, and distinctly GNR. I know we’re comparing a final mix with new players to a demo leak, but I love what the guys did with “Perhaps.”

It’s not so much about Slash’s solo being bad as it is that Finck’s was just definitively better. Masterful, even. It’s hard to listen to an average solo after that.

Definitely better … in your opinion. I love Axl singing “you’re all alone” while Finck’s initial bend comes in. That part was retained in the studio release. The rest of the solo is good, but I think Slash’s fits the song better. And I think Slash’s solo is just better overall. Finck’s doesn’t really do much.

Edit: When I say Slash’s solo fits the song better, I mean in the studio release. Because the guitar riff and bass are groovier in the verses. The solo matches that vibe. The demo we heard with Finck’s solo has a screaming guitar licks in the verses. Which is cool and ends up being bolstered by a similar solo as he goes into the bends.

The bend being left in definitely sounds like an amateur mixing job, wether it was intentional or not. I find it rather jarring tbh and wish the solo just started the way it does when Slash plays it live.

Idk. I think it’s cool how the bend plays over the last bit of Axl singing “you’re all alone,” then fades to Slash’s solo. I don’t get the love for the original solo though. It’s not awful. But that initial bend was the best part. Slash’s solo adds classic GNR groove to “Perhaps.”
