  1. I've long fantasized about a Gn'R AfD lineup reunion though I knew it'd likely never happen.

The thing is, though it would be kinda cool, they'd still be a shell of their former selves. They wouldn't be the guys we last saw in '91 when they all shared the same stage.

It would be a nostalgica tour, which I guess the current tour already is, but at least right now they play stuff from the Chinese Democracy years.

I would love for the original group to get together and write music, but Axl took how many years to release one record? He still supposedly has two more albums' worth of material from the CD sessions and yet will it ever see the light of day? Now imagine the classic lineup reforming. When would we even get new music?

I suppose some things are better left unwritten. Hanoi Rocks, a band Izzy idolized, had a record called "All Those Wasted Years." That's how I feel about Guns N' Roses.

  2. I wish Shadow wasn't cut. Is that studio recording out there somewhere? I have the one from Hollywood Rose.

Edit: Guess I answered my own question:

Didn't know it was includes as a bonus track in a rerelease.

Anyone wanna hook me up? I don't like grabbing audio from youtube 'cause it's lousy.

  3. I don't know about live, but Axl uses it on Chinese Democracy, sometimes a little too much. That's just my own opinion though.

Most notably (for me) in Scraped at 1:19. I meant wtf man it sounds like he just takes the pitch wheel on a keyboard and jams it up. Sometimes I feel like MY life's..... love the song a lot but that kills the feel of the raw angry blues rock song that it is

All those years he worked on the album, how the hell did they let that line slip? Sounds like a fuckup.

  4. 2001-2002 was the worst time to be a GNR fan IMO.

Nothing about that performance is good. Not Madagascar. Nothing.

2006-2011 Axl dominates that performance in every single way. The band looked like a complete joke back then. I have no idea how anyone likes that time period. Anything from it.

Didn't say I liked that time period. But compared to Rio, VMA's is better. Anyone who says otherwise is in serious denial.

  5. I'm rewatching the VMA performance from '02. I remember it being lackluster when I saw it, but now? I think Axl's vocal performance is better than what I've seen from the current tour.

And taking into account he was running all over the place during "Jungle" with no breaks or guitar solos in the performance, it's no wonder he was out of breath. I think people were hard on him and the new band because it was the public's first look at the new look lineup with strange frontmen. People couldn't accept it. Fortus looks awesome btw.

I mean, do we just expect less these days? I would put the VMAs over any of the current shows he's currently played.

It was awesome.. I still get goosebumps when I see it.. I remember I was in high school when it happened and I freaked the fuck out!!! I was literally screaming and jumping up and down like a little kid on Christmas! The band sounded awesome especially brain on drums!

Me too! I was on vacation so I wasn't privy to any of the rumors that they'd be playing. I was only half-paying attention to the VMAs. It was on in the room. Then when Jimmy Fallon lost his shit, I about lost my shit.

  7. Given the fact that Chinese Democracy has all but disappeared from store shelves, new stage set-ups are being used, and Going Down is listed as a possibly in the setlist, I believe that all signs are pointing to something big being on the horizon. I honestly don't believe Axl would be foolish enough to attempt another US tour with nothing to assist in making it successful. It could very well be career suicide. If they were only going to tour the GREATEST HITS, it would require the original lineup to make it successful. No, I believe we are at the calm of a very big storm. I think the most likely scenario is that we are going to see a re-release of Chinese Democracy with some remixes and a couple of new tracks. If you recall, Brain said he was remixing songs a year ago and Axl really wanted to put it out.

The next month or so should be some very exciting times in GNR land! I can't wait to see what lies ahead!

    Wishful thinking.

Reading Classic Rock Magazine's feature chronicling The Chinese Democracy Years has actually slapped me in the face with a little bit of reality. How many times was Axl supposed to release the record before it finally came to store shelves? 2012 was supposed to see the third record yet we don't even have a single new song.

Not a single person who isn't going to the shows is going to buy a ticket if he hears there will be new songs on the setlist. Not one. The Gn'R fans are going regardless.

  8. Even Gilby's reunion comments were taken out of context.

Someone specifically asked him if he'd do a reunion if it was offered. He said he would do it if Slash was involved, but also went on to say that people want Izzy and Steven and the classic lineup when speaking of reunions.

    He said nothing wrong.

"I've always said if it's really a real reunion where [guitarist] Slash is involved, then I would do it, but I probably feel the same that you guys feel," Gilby replied. "I think most people wanna see the original five [members] — with Izzy [stradlin, guitar] and Steven [Adler, drums] - and I agree; that was a great band. But if they want other people - myself and Matt [sorum, drums], then I would do it. But I would only do it if Slash was involved."

  9. who is they?

Guns N' Roses, and not that old dusty sloppy version that once played together.

Statements like this are beyond moronic. You can love the new band. Hell, you can even like them better than the original. But when people take subtle (or not so subtle) jabs at the REAL version of the group and the ARCHITECTS behind the greatest hits, it just makes them look like they are worshipping at the church of Axl.

  10. Then why do they advertise the time on the ticket as 9 p.m.? People who defend the late starts are nothing but sheep. If Axl likes to play late, then advertise a midnight show. Why force people to basically guess how late you'll be?

The excuse that "you should know how Axl is by now" is idiotic. We all have *real* lives and places to be the next day. I don't know how anyone could buy the GA floor ticket and stand there for basically hours on end while Axl is probably backstage taking a little nap.

  11. I'm rewatching the show now.

As far as Axl's performance goes:

"Chinese Democracy" was OK, but he completely fucked up the words.

"Jungle" was bad. Needed more of his trademark raspy voice. He was skipping words like he sometimes does.

    "It's So Easy" was good.

"Brownstone" was good except for the "he won't leave me alone ..." parts. Couldn't hit 'em.

"Sorry" was bad. He was all over the place with it.

"Live and Let Die" was OK.

    "Rocket Queen" was grotesquely awful.

"This I Love" was largely good with a little Mickey Mouse still rearing its ugly head at times.

    "Sweet Child" was awful.

"Estranged" was good with only a little of the aforementioned Mickey coming through.

    "Better" was awful.

    "Street of Dreams" was OK.

"You Could Be Mine" was awful.

"November Rain" was decent, felt a little fast to me, but the monumental flub at the end ruined it. Felt a little fast to me.

"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was good though he was a little shaky.

    "Nightrain" was bad.

"Patience" was OK, but he fucked up the words (again) and mumbled and ruined it.

    "Paradise City" was bad.

After rewatching the show, I'm hopeful that Axl's voice will return with more singing. I still think it's BS he wasn't prepared for a new tour. I did hear some of the trademark rasp. It's still there. It was almost like he was trying to save his vocal chords from blowing out too soon because he knew they would. Hopefully the ratio of the raspy voice vs. the Mickey Mouse shit starts weighing heavier on the former as the tour progresses. He was pretty damn good last year. Make the show a bad memory.

I completely disagree with every single word you wrote. Idiot.

That doesn't make me an idiot at all. It means we disagree. Aren't you the guy who kept claiming in the chat room that the concert was canceled due to rain?

  13. One average performance, stage with puddles on it, sound problems, SOAD playing longer, and the whole gnr fanbase jumps on AXL'S back. Its like your being dictated to from the media or something, i doubt your real gnr fans. The original band sounded worst at times, when Slash was smacked out his face, izzy was in coke land and duff's liver was hanging out his ass and matt was backstaging his own friends and family and sniffing cocaine off the spines of prostitute's, and Axl dealt with the problem by getting better players who didn't need to have a altered state to play on stage, so basically he turned gnr into something again......but as always with this so called fanbase just turn on him and blame everything on the guy. GROW THE FUCK UP.

The media? I was watching the performance live as it streamed and the general consensus in mygnrforum's official chatroom was that it was embarrassingly bad. I don't need to read a review of a show. It was horrendous and Axl should have prepared. That's what it comes down to. A bad show due to lack of real preparation or practice with the band. Period.

Totaly agree ! GN´R is back, AXL is back. I enjoyed the show. I recentely watched some old UYI shows, and I think that people on this forum should do the same. Axl´s voice is much more clear nowadays, but sometimes there is some instability. I think it´s causes by long flight, late show, first show on the tour after one year stop. Haters should retire !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So why doesn't he take an earlier flight? And why doesn't he, I dunno, warm up his vocal chords?!

  14. I don't regret purchasing tickets for the US tour because he was awful at Rio. I regret it because I really don't wanna sit around for two hours then watch a two hour funeral. Because that's what it'll feel like if Axl shows up and sings (and forgets lyrics) like he did at Rio. The sound of a music hero dying.

People aren't angry because he was bad at Rio. People are disappointed. Disappointed because it was apparent he wasn't in shape and probably didn't rehearse much if at all. He *had* it as recently as a year ago.

You never see this guy with the band when the rest of them are interacting with fans and so forth. It's gonna be increasingly difficult to defend him. People LOVE Guns N' Roses. It means so much to so many of us but I feel like Axl himself is the one who keeps stifling the continued evolution/growth of this once powerful juggernaut.

I'll give Axl the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was drunk. Maybe he was sick. Maybe the rain affected him. But that all sounds like excuses. I don't wanna hear someone who sounds like he inhaled helium out of a balloon. I wanna hear the guy the last couple years who's been fucking killing it. Bring back the rasp, goddamn it.

I've been waiting my entire life to see Axl Rose.

  15. I just don't understand the Mickey Mouse bullshit. It's hard to listen to. Check out the raspier performance of Rocket Queen in the embedded video and try to watch the Rio RQ performance. It's brutal. It's even more brutal when you're directly comparing it. I was eagerly awaiting their show and foregoing sleep to watch. But I was instantly embarrassed when my girlfriend came to watch with me and just had a "What the fuck is this bullshit?" expression on her face. Man.
