Thanks highvoltage for the Aus-some videos. I think Nice Boys sounds quite good.
-
How many times before WTTJ did DJ Ashba put his hand to his ear to prompt a response from the crowd like Hulk Hogan? THESE are the kinds of questions matter.
-
Doesnt really matter how many old GNR songs Axl plays vs. how many Slash plays, the point is that Axl is the one who made grandiose gestures to differentiate himself from old GNR, from Slash, from AFD, etc etc, yet to this day he continues to play those songs. That's being a bullshitter, a hypocrite.
-
Axl is apparently out of touch. I dont know what evidence he has that obsessing over material and hoarding shit is a good idea, especially for somebody who has severely high standards and OCD tendencies.
I'm as hardcore Axl/GNR-lover as you'll get. I cheered through 2010 because he at least sounded good doing the nostalgia thing. Then he sounded like SHIT all through '11-'12 and now not only is he still playing the nostalgia set but he's clearly preserving his voice, imo. I know he can do better than this and it's ridiculous seeing this same shit for yet another leg.

Dont Cry sounds good.

I think the CITR video is great

I'm sure Izzy, Axl, and Slash got tons and could've gotten tons more if they tried. They're sensitive souls.

God that band had such potential. Damn shame. Fucking criminal. The fact not only my favorite band but arguably my second favorite band ever also imploded....damn.
-
those songs suck. everything vr does is generic, trite, crap. and it's not because weiland, slash or duff sucks - i love all those guys, STP and GNR are amazing - they just dont have it.

My opinion is Axl was disappointed after a strong '09-'10 to come back to the US and not have any dates set up, so he kinda got depressed and said fuck it (there are quotes to this point, I cant remember the source). Thus, you have 2011 and 2012, where he was not only weak but listless and unfocused. I predict - and from Perth I think I might be right - that he is in better shape, more focused, and will put on good shows; however, you're not gonna see 2010-level voice because he is saving it, probably for a record. I truly believe he knows he can turn it on when he wants. His voice is very important and most people who go to gigs are there to have a good time, take a trip down memory lane, and GNR is merely capitalizing on this. Axl already proved he can still ROCK it live in 2010 and so he has nothing to prove and everything to lose by going 110% live again, as he did for much of '10.

Yea I agree what he did was out of line (Corey was, that is). It goes to show why Axl is so polarizing. He doesnt go on when or how everybody thinks he should, and in turn they do really fucked-up mean things like Corey did. Who's really in the wrong? Axl's persona brings this shit out in people. I relate to it because I'm the same way. Red head also.

lol thanks for the vid. Hilarious. Thoughts:
People develop their opinion about somebody mostly based on how they made them feel. Why does Axl's artistic integrity have to be based on how timely he - a rock star - hops on stage for your entertainment?
Next, Axl is a bit of a douche.
Third, Corey is a bonehead rock fan who just doesnt know much else. Whatever.
-
Axl's interviews are about as contrived as the Lies album.
-
Richard Fortus has that kinda Steve Stevens appeal but he's not quite as technically gifted and doesn't have the catchy hooks, unfortunately.
-
One of the very sources of brilliance for Axl is also his Achilles' heel: His exceptionalism.
This is a good thing in some ways because his exceptionalism allows for flashes of brilliance, super-high standards and so forth.
BUT it is also a detriment, because he apparently can NOT recognize that there is such a thing as TOO MUCH. Too much tinkering, too much power, too much taking-for-granted. I like CD a lot , but its Frankenstenian. You cant make good music that way.
Case in point: He told Brain to play Josh's parts note for note. But add his own "feel." How the hell is that possible? I STILL do NOT understand that.
-
The rasp debate is more or less a debate about Axl's work ethic and drive. Most of the shitty M Mouse shows we see, Axl not coincidentally seems out of shape, not taking things seriously, merely going through the motions

2010 with a bandana. When he brushes it and shit a lot like today it looks all poofy and ridiculous.
That said, 2006 wasnt that bad. He looked overall better. Got a lil crazy with the botox though. Looked gaunt as a muh fukka.
-
There are thousands of guitarists better than DJ who love GNR and understand GNR and would want to honor GNR.
-
Brain's work is c2b3 is some of my favorite drumming. Brown Album, Antipop, Science Faxtion. I havent even read this thread and I'm pretty sure none of those have even been mentioned. So, yea. Brain rules. Freese does too.

What a terrible writer and apparently shallow person. Meaning, perfect for Metal Sludge!
-
Axl sounds so natural and good on Seeker.
-
DJ says he writes songs everyday. Like that's supposed to be impressive rather than distressing. DJ, it's QUALITY of songs, not quantity we're looking for.
And yes, I wanna hear BH songs. But it'd also be nice to hear music from a band that actually still exists. Axl better wise up and hurry up tho.
-
I think a super buff 50 year old man is a bit weird and gay. I dont care how fat he is as long as he sounds amazing.
-
Pfft those were 2 out of maybe 5 total decent shows -- out of dozens upon dozens. Miami and Orlando were good too. But otherwise he sounded like Pluto the Dog and Mickey Mouse drowning together for the whole..damn...leg of the tour.

Woo hoo thanks Gunns. Probably it'll have some BH stuff, some Deej stuff.
