  1. I love how @Pele has not had the "courage" (to use his terminology) to directly address that Tommy Stinson - one of the three members of the band present through the entirety of the Chinese Democracy saga said Axl recorded vocals "every year". Maybe it was just too much for him to compute so he ignored it. Maybe he's trying to perform the mental gymnastics that will allow him to directly contradict the direct words of one of the longest serving members of Guns N' Roses: stay tuned!

    I heard the new RHCP single on the radio this morning and it really highlighted what a mess the GNR singles were.

    This is what a legacy band's "reunion single" should sound like:

    Classic RHCP sound with modern production. I'm sure this is gonna get tons of airplay over the next few months.

    Hardschool on the other hand, didn't get much radio play because it sounds exactly like what it is - nuGNR feat. Slash and Duff, all sloppily pasted together.

    To be fair, we got some pretty dire stuff from RHCP between John Frusciante leaving and returning.

  3. To be fair, I have never understood the hatred of the Greatest Hits album. It wasn't perfect, and I know a lot of GN'R fans would have loved a more "Best Of" type collection (all the great songs, and maybe some bonus tracks), but for what it was supposed to be, it did the job perfectly: all the "essential" songs (to casual fans) on one disc; the majority being ones that actually charted and received (and continue to receive) significant radio airplay. I can speak from personal experience that the Greatest Hits album, along with all the Velvet Revolver hype, really began the process or re-introducing Guns N' Roses band to fans who fell off after an extended period of the band not being "cool", and perhaps more importantly, introduced them to a new generation of fans and really began the process of cementing the band as a "legacy" act on par with Aersomith or other similar classic rocks bands.

    Oh, c'mon, Russ... Don't be that silly!

    For the first time, I'm going to be serious:

    Also, I want to know... This forum is for debate, right? So, why replying to an old thread is against the rules?! What is the logic behind that?!

    If a thread is interesting but it's old... Why are we unable to reply it?!

    Debate makes richier boards, nice experiences.

    We all need to be greater on here and in the GnR family.

    I don't find any logic on that.

    Where is Russ' post did he say it was against the rules? The thread remains open. He pointed out, accurately, that you had absolutely nothing of note to add to this topic.

  5. At this point, to use a notable example, it would be like re-releasing ...And Justice for All with audible bass lines. Would it be cool? Sure. Would I listen to it? Of course. Ultimately, however, I've gotten used to the ridiculous drum sound and completely overblown guitar tone. It has become part of the charm of those albums.

    I've always said he's possibly become this anti-Trump liberal to try and deflect a potential MeToo situation

    Or maybe, I don't know, he just doesn't like former President Trump. It was/is hardly an uncommon opinion. To be fair, the band was doing anti-Trump stuff pretty much from the eve of his election, so before MeToo even started as a movement.

    Oh there is so much there and most of it is horseshit imo. I will say it’s good to know that even if Axl isn’t that proficient at releasing music, it’s clear he hasn’t lost his ability to recognise when music isn't good enough.

    Also, if DJ wrote 8 to 10 songs that sounded like appetite that I’ll have to change my username to “his holiness the pope.”

    Axl probably told DJ he wanted him to stay in the band in the same place Angelina jolie tells me she’s madly in love with me, which is in our dreams.

    I for one am glad that Richard fortus stayed in the band as I think he’s done a very good job. Nice of DJ to try belittle Richard and pass it off as a compliment though.

    I did not take his comment about Richard as a dig. To me, it seemed like he was saying Richard had the ability to quickly rework his role in the band with Slash returning; something DJ said he couldn't do. If anything, Richard had been the one making passive-aggressive comments about his former bandmates.

    Axl's kind of consistently said the band is his music so he didn't see much of a difference in going solo. There's also an interview Chris Vrenna (early CD member) gave where he asked Axl this and even Axl realized the brand that is Guns N' Roses.

    I could see it being a lot like the 2009-2014 period if the reunion was a one-off. He wouldn't have made anywhere near the money he's made the last 5 years though. Probably still no record and probably an easier decision to retire around 60 without the massive draw of the reunion.

    He said the exact opposite in the chats back in 2008. He said Chinese Democracy was a Guns N' Roses record, and that something solo would be more experimental and likely instrumental to a large degree. He did say he saw himself as the person to move GN'R into the next era after the Use Your Illusion albums, but that he felt Chinese Democracy very much represented a "band" record.

    Well, as I said the other time, I think there may be truth to some of these (namely about Sorum and the three guitarists) , because I can guess who the original source was (I know there were other people who had had the same info after talking to someone who had talked to that original source). However, some of the things that person (the original source) said were proven wrong.

    Couldn't help yourself huh...:P

    In all seriousness, what was proven incorrect? I distanced myself from all that b.s. shortly after NITL started.

    This scenario, even if it was just for Coachella, doesn't add up much, considering that there were also negotiations with Izzy to play at those initially planned shows, so how many guitarists would be there, four?

    None of it adds up to much; lots of conflicting stories with 2015/16 negotiations, and we'll probably never have a clear answer on the whole thing. Knowing Axl (and honestly Slash as well) I am sure many different ideas were being thrown around at different points, and if you took it all at face value, you would have had a band with Frank/Izzy/DJ/Steven/Matt/Gilby ;)

    I know certain wrestlers at different points said (and @Blackstar, before you jump in I do not claim that we should take anything at face value; just stating up front before you make an obligatory post saying that) throughout 2015/16 that:

    -Steven and Izzy were, at different points, definitely 100% "in";

    -There was at least one instance in 2016 where all of the Appetite five were in the same room together;

    -At the outset, Duff and Slash both really pushed for Matt Sorum, but were told after a few attempts this was a no-go for Axl;

    -One of Slash's big demands were that he, under no conditions, would be on stage in a situation where three guitarists played (which either debunks DJ entirely or means Slash would have sat out Chinese Democracy songs);

    -At one point, Slash made some last minute monetary play at the eleventh hour that almost made Axl walk away from the whole thing.

    Again, take all of this for what you will. Point remains that, we have a lot of competing memories and interests and are bound to get some conflicting stories.

    So Ashba was Axl’s first choice over Richard for NITL. Pitman was given the chance of staying on too.

    Things could have been so much worse.

    In some random interview (forget if it was Trunk), the interviewer directly asked Ron about the rumor of DJ Ashba being part of the "reunion". IIRC Ron speculated (but made it clear he did not know) that it would have been like when Axl considered having both Brian and Frank drum on the tours following the release of Chinese Democracy (the rumor at that time was that Brain would drum on the Chinese Democracy material and Frank would drum on Appetite and Use Your Illusion songs). So, Ron's guess was that DJ would have played on Chinese Democracy stuff, and Slash would have played all of the songs on which he originally played. Bear in mind that Axl, Duff, and Slash have all said the plan, up until the last minute, was for nothing more than the Coachella shows. So, DJ being DJ, probably transformed "Axl offered me a glorified cameo at a few shows" into "I was asked to be part of the NITL tour".
