The Michael Jordan of Metal ... and at that point he really is!!! - Not to take anything away from him recently, but that performance was outta space.

People not trying to critique the performance tend to be their biggest fans. GNR is easy to watch and say “whoa I haven’t seen a performance like that before”

It’d be awesome. Axl is so shy, though, (and Slash... why the fuck is GNR all shy guys now? What is this Super Mario Bros? boom!).

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a fan, though. Billy Corgan, Rob Zombie... lots of musicians say they listen all the time. The Steven Tyler one was great.

You’re right about Slash... this interviewer was okay but no real revelations aside from the chips. That’s why I liked his appearance on Chris Hardwick’s podcast (even though I don’t listen to it otherwise) because they geeked out about dinosaurs and all this random shit.

The issue is they really aren’t promoting anything that people are buying. When Slash releases something he has to go around doing interviews about GNR and his dark past. Axl doesn’t do anything because he knows he hasn’t released anything relevant so instead of talking about himself he just sits at home.

That would be the best. Send him off with some Elk meat.

I mean does Axl have anything better to do on a Tuesday afternoon in LA than to go have a conversation with another human being that millions of people can listen to later.
ideally he’d be promoting something but with the stories and career of Axl it would be a great conversation.
Slash interviews just don’t have much substance anymore

Out Ta Get Me is not though for Axl. It's one of the easiest GNR songs for Axl to sing cause so much of it is just screaming. Who knows why they're not playing it. Maybe Axl doesn't want to play too much AFD. Maybe Axl's sick and tired of that song. We don't know why they don't play certain songs and why they prefer playing stuff like Black Home Sun instead. But there's no reason to think that OTGM is too difficult for Axl's vocal chords, when he's always performed it much better than most songs on the setlist.

I’m pretty sure Duff or someone in the band said it’s too hard on him so that’s why My Michelle was getting played more at the time

Axl's vocal chords don't respond well to about 90% of the setlist at this point

Well most of it is on purpose. He chooses to not push his voice anymore, I think if he wanted to he could do the hard work of going back to his vocal coach, work on a 12-15 song set, and nail it but have to put his voice on the brink. It seemed to work well with what he wanted to accomplish with ACDC.
I think he has zero interest in doing the same for GNR songs. But it’s also important to remember less breathing and more lyrics on GNR material so difficulty goes up for sure.

Plus bring 57 now is not helpful haha but if he wanted to he could retire GNR and go to work on lighter material. Not sure that interest him though.

Too bad Wichita Lineman isn't hard on his vocal chords then huh? :P

I love Wichita. He sings it really well. It shouldn’t be lost that Axl has a great natural voice. We are just hearing him struggle with the higher register as he ages.

This band is on fucking fire. This place sounds so good. Hot crowd. Rasp. I'm fucking with it. I've been to 300+ concerts in my life this may dethrone my #1. Fuck yeah.

Their first 5 songs is incredible. They truly nail it when they come out. Better is a mood killer in my opinion but I said it at ACL, nobody can beat them on the energy they bring to open a show.

You may notice that the beginning of this song is exactly the middle tone in which he usually puts his clear falsetto voice into Guns songs. He's not screaming here, as a lot of people say he only had the rasp in AD / DC because he sang screaming, but he can bring the full rasp without screaming at the beginning of this song.

In my opinion he can still make his voice have the necessary drive but maybe he needs more effort to do compared to before. AD / DC shows were few compared to the amount of shows that Guns has been doing.

yea he can hit every range with rasp. Now how hard it is for him to do so is a question only he can answer, but he made it look easy with acdc

Axl just can't sing for shit anymore due to various reasons. I still enjoy the shows but Axl will never sound anything close to '91-'93, '06-'07 or '09-'10. 80's Axl was a whole different beast.

But I don't know, it sounds like he gave up a few years back. He was pretty good with AC/DC but all Brian Johnson songs are the same and are really screamie a la WTTJ and SOYL. Which is why those songs are still pretty decent live.

But compare any RQ, YCBM, NR or SCOM from these past 3 years with the ones from 2010 (Bucharest 2010 specifically). It's a whole different sound. It's not much better than 1999-2002 Axl.

And I'm not saying this to piss people off. But what got me into GN'R were Axl's raw and raspy vocals. I'm a big fan of singers who sound like a piece of sandpaper (Steven Tyler, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Joe ****er, etc.). And Axl now sounds like he could audition for the Scissor Sisters or the Plastic Band.

And even tho it doesn't necessarily have an effect on your voice as a singer, it wouldn't hurt him to get a little exersise. He doesn't look healthy to me, even tho the dude's standing next to 2 serious ex-junkies every night.

don't You undermine what he did with ACDC it was exceptional
