  1. Yea, I agree with you. I come from the same home town as Lou Saverese. A Tyson victim in 36 seconds. Prior to their fight I was having a debate with some locals about Lous chances. They couldn't grasp the fact that guys like Tyson, Holyfeild, Floyd etc.. have a different inate quality about them that takes them to an elite level. The casual fans imo, can hardly see the skill of the elite fighters because the details are small but immeasurable. But to also have that mental edge, animal instinct, whatever it's called is something that isn't taught. That's what seperates the greats from the legends.

  2. Zou Shimming lost. Could see it coming really.

. Didnt see that headline yet. Not surprised though. Champions are champions for a reason. Zou needs more time in the ring. He'll be back. Hope this don't give Freddie any bad mojo for Pac.

Len, you got me interested in Ewbank. He's abit more polished then I thought. Have you seen this yet??

  3. That is disappointing with Cotto. Was hoping for a Khan matchup after they both missed out on Mayweather and Pacquiao, so Bundrage would definitely be disappointing. Is that one official now?

Looking forward to the NBC card tomorrow--they picked a pretty good one to lead off with. Big fan of Thurman--hope he gets the KO. Not a big fan of Guerrero, but that's probably more so his father's fault--still find it funny how his dad was jumping around the ring yelling about how Mayweather had ran from Guerrero right after Mayweather put on a boxing clinic. Broner-Molina will be interesting. Never did think he made the right move by jumping two weight classes, and it obviously showed. Think junior welterweight is where he belongs right now. Wish he would get back to how he was fighting before jumping to welterweight though. He was much more aggressive, which helped him both offensively and defensively. He just looks really stiff now with his current style. There's flashes of what he showed before when he occasionally let's his hands go, but he doesn't do that nearly often enough. Was hoping dropping back down a weight class would help him get back to his older style, but that hasn't been the case so far.

I did end up deciding to go to the Roy Jones, Jr. card tonight. Will be in the fourth row after finding a promotion code online for 20% off. With the discount, it ended up being just a little more than the original price level I was looking at, so I figured, fourth row for just a little more? Why not?

Same here for Cotto, I guess he's gonna go for a big fight in the fall? Maybe he vacates or fights Canelo, if he should win, who knows, lol...

Awesome you went to see Jones!! I hope he puts on a good show for you!!

  4. Did you catch this T.W.A.T? ANd yeah, i can juuust about understand Roger but he's talkin' about Floyd Snr. Probably not a good line of attack by a man with Parkinsons though i must say.

I did, kids got a bit of his old man in him. Hes still a little green but a good good prospect for sure. I'd guess he's about ready to step up to B level?? I've seen his last two fights, but don't know much about him. What do you think about him as a fighter?

I mentioned his old man, who I know you love, are the two comparable?

Also I realised Im a day ahead of myself. That show I mentioned is tonite (Friday) and is about the fights on Sat.

I just read a bit about Ewbank jr. Goes to show the disparity between US boxers and fighters in the UK. He barely gets a mention over here but he holds the WBA strap. I suppose as a fight fan I should know more about him, but we just don't hear about guys like him unless they are fighting in a big fight.

Middleweight and surrounding divisions are loaded, hes gonna get a good chance against someone. Hell, why not Cotto, hes looking to cash in. Young upstart interim titleholder vs Lineal Champion. Kinda like what Mayweather did for Canelo

I think he's got potential...but thats about it at the moment. Middleweight is a fuckin' lethal division too. He's better lined up for a fight with GGG really, because he holds the interim strap for the title GGG has.

Gotcha. I don't think anyone cares for the WBA belt Chris has tbh. GGG at 32, is imo, gonna be looking for big fights this year and the guy fights 4 times a year so why not just wipe out the division and pick up as many belts in the process. If I'm Jr, I take 2 fights as interim champ, cash in a bit/ get some experience, vacate, and start going after names towards the end of the year. GGG v Ewbank jr Dec 22nd in Monaco....

Cotto also has signed with Roc Nation, Haymon doesn't do business with them, so that cuts out 9/10ths of possible opponents for him, lol. So now he's fighting Anthony K9 Bundrage. Imagine being the lineal middleweight champion, passing on a $10.5 million dollar payday with Canelo, in hope of fighting Floyd again, who he alredy lost to. Only to be passed on by Floyd and now is left fighting Bundrage, that sucks. Anyways, I think he signed for 3 fights, which is cool, I like Miguel.

I was giving Cotto a pass and let him cash in for a fight but Bundrage? Come on Miguel...

  6. "My whole thing is, Floyd's not going to have his best cornerman in his corner because there's no question in my mind that Roger is the better trainer," said Roach, who turns 55 on Thursday. "Floyd got 90 percent of his wins with Roger working with him. Roger is way better. I think Floyd Sr. is a terrible cornerman, I really do. That's going to work to our advantage on fight night because in the corner, I'm not going to be nervous and I'll be able to calmly talk to Manny and make whatever adjustments we have to make.

"But Floyd Sr. can't get his message out in that minute [rest] period. He gets so excited and worked up and he starts to stutter so he can't give his fighter any useful [information]."

"Look, Floyd was in the gym when he was five and the guy was born to fight," Roach said. "Everyone who has been around this sport knows that. You have to give him a ton of credit. He has great talent, but he's extremely smart in the ring and he knows what he's doing. He's training himself now. I know that. He's a self-made guy.

"He'll get himself prepared for this fight because he always has done that. But in a fight like this, where it's a tighter fight and he's not such a huge favorite, he could use a little advice or suggestion from his corner. But he's not going to get that from his father, so that's another advantage for us."

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/boxing/freddie-roach-blasts-floyd-mayweather-sr---says-floyd-jr--taught-himself-013843523.html

Looks like Money Team ain't the only ones into mindgames. Exacerbating a dodgy relationship with his Dad, getting a bit of an insult in and fuckin' with their camp a bit. He'd rather a Roger in the corner cuz a Roger trained Floyd is less boring that a Floyd Sr trained Floyd. Meaning he'll come out.

I love Roach. He's by far the best in the business and has been for a long time. He's been with Manny for a long ass time to. That kinda stuff could make or break the fight. I've seen video of Roger where you couldn't understand a lick of what he is saying. Seriously, it s like a dude who speaks only English trying to understand German, except the guy speaking German is trying to speak English, lol...

  7. I'm starting to believe Mayweather has a bit of fear towards Pac. All the bs he is pulling etc...

I know Arum is a liar, but he is on record as saying Floyd don't want a lefty like Pacman. I recently saw a video of Fred Roach talking about how he thinks the Mayweather fight is an easy one for Manny. This is going back a few years, prior to the first Bradley fight. I love listening to the head trainers of each guy. Both sides are outta their minds haha...

Almost less than 24 hours to go. There's also something on Spike tonite, 11pm, maybe a preview show, Ill check it out and post if there's anything good.

  8. Read something similiar too. Some tickets might go for up to $18,000!! Very few will be offered to the public. I also read they might show it in theaters across the US. I'm pretty sure they did that for the Tyson/Lewis.

  9. What happened, I can't see the page?

I think Geurero is more of a gate keeper but still thinks of himself as a top flight boxer. He still is to an extant, but he's not on the Floyd/Manny level. That said, I don't think he's gonna be on Thurmans level either. That dude is badass and might be fighting for a legit strap by years end.

  10. That Hearns Duran knockout I watch every so often, Hands of Stone even started getting the fuck up from it! Guy was a monster but what a KO. I remember an interview Hagler said he softened Duran up but I'm not sure it's that simple though I'd never say a bad word against Marvelous except he retired too early after Leonard got the decision. What did he retire at, about 33?? That's nothing these days, for better or worse.

Molina gave as good as he got against The Machine, if Broner didn't learn anything from the Maidana fight and I'm not really sure if he has, he's going to get sent down by this guy even though I don't think he's half the fighter Maidana is, depends how Broner approaches it as he clearly has talent but is extremely flat footed, nowhere near as good on defense as he believes but the guy has a lot of heart and is a solid fighter, despite being a grade A dickhead.

Definantly a miracle Duran got up. That one is up there with Pac getting ko, d. That Duran fight is proof that not all losses effect a fighters legacy. Its more the timing and when the fight happens that irks some people. I've seen Duran on some alltime lists as high as 7. That's incredible.

I feel the same way about the Molina fight. I think the burden is on Broner, he does it to himself with his attitude etc.. That stuff brings out the best in some fighters, Molina is no non sense (like Maidana) so I hope he brings it. Could be a nice coming out party for him.

  11. Yeah, its finally here. I've been stoked for Thurman the whole time up until this weekend. Now I wanna see Broner get , how you say it Len, "sparked"? Yes, I want Broner to get sparked against Molina.

    Molina ko'd 7 sparring partners....

  12. Roy Jones is fighting again too but I don't care enough to watch. Hope he don't get hurt.

Just saw a commercial on TV saying his warmup fight in preparation for the potential title shot was happening near me next week. Unfortunately, he's fighting an old journeyman and the card's website doesn't even list the fighters in the other nine fights (outside of one local boxer). Would like to see Jones, but not sure if a one minute KO vs. a very weak opponent and a card full of boxers who the promoter didn't even bother to list online is worth the price they're charging. Don't know--may cave in on the cheapest ticket, even though it's overpriced, but the fact that there's still front row seats available less than a week before the fight should tell the promoters something about the pricing...

Nice, sounds like a good night out though. 9 fights, plus a legend, If go for it. I was reading Marco Huck would give Jones a shot at his title. That's just bad news to me, Huck is one of those fighters who nobody wants to fight. The Mattysse v Provo fight is like 2 hours from me, near the BHoF too, my car took a dump so I'm out for that one.

I was just watching Hearns v Duran again. Tommy Hearns has some of the fastest hands, unbelievable.

  13. Taking Mosul would be a huge blow to ISIL and the first step to a Kurdish state. Pushing them out of Iraq and back into Syria, but will Syria allow Iraqi forces cross over?

I'm not sure how successful such a push would be, at least in the immediate future. As the article i posted above reminds everyone, it only took a couple hundred ISIS fighters to drive out 30k Iraqi troops from Mosul a year ago. Now there's several thousand ISIS forces within Mosul. Perhaps this new Iraqi/Kurd force will be a bit more effective, but we'll see.

And I'm not sure Syria is in any position to prevent Iraqi/Kurdish forces from crossing into it's border. It can't do much about ISIS, so not sure what they'd do against state-backed forces.

Fortunatly, they won't be going alone. The US will be directing the offensive. That said, because everyone has to be politically correct nowadays, the army will be fighting with one hand behind their backs. The now typical, don't shoot until fired upon crap, doesn't work with people like them.

The new video of ISIS members destroying ancient artifacts and statues with sledge hammers must make their followers and believers proud.

They slaughter the weak and destroy inanimate objects, real tough guys. Wait until a real army presents itself. Id bet most drop their weapons on the spot and try to leave like the cowards they are.

Well the logistics should be better now. It was poor logistics and communications that caused Mosul to fall. ISIL will not give up Mosul without a fight. They need to cut off ISIL in Iraq from Syria. That is very important. They are stronger in Syria for reasons that it is so divided there between opposition and government. But if they take Mosul and cut off the rest of ISIL from Syria they can be mopped up.

Egypt has been working on helping the Libyans expel ISIL from Sirte, Libya. Basically a war on multiple fronts.

Good for Egypt, its great that a Muslim country recognizes what is happening instead of sleeping at the wheel. Their president was the first to stand up and renounce the Muslim extremists and call them what they are. The surrounding Arab nations should follow their lead and be proactive.

They've all been doing it. Jordan especially.

Right. I forgot to mention Jordan, unfortunatly it took their pilot being burned to death, which may or may not have happened anyway but the more that unite the better. I seem to recall Turkey coming around about something too.

There is to, the "coalition", of nations but their roles are so small. Helpful to a degree but small.

  14. Did this book actually ever come out? Remember this being talked about many, many moons ago.

No, I believe Axl Rose bought the rights to the book and then tossed it in the vault. Or paid her not to release it. Or blocked it legally. The Life and Times of Axl Rose, right?

Must have some savory bits of info in there, if that were the case, him buying it or whatever.

  17. It took me awhile to really like Roy. I knew he had crazy skills, but I didn't really really like him until after he lost to Tarver. He is an alltime great. If it wasn't for his chin and not seeing him against more quality opponents, most likely top 10. At this point Id rather watch nothing.

  18. Thurman getting booed was definatly ridiculous. Like you said the guy is legit and he can't knock everybody out, lol. I can't wait to see him against Martinez. I think he's more of a gate keeper know and that his best days are well behind him. I think he still has enough to make Keith work. Id be stunned if Thurman didn't win. Good solid career for him though, (Martinez). Kahn would be a exciting fight for One Time, good idea.
