Also on Don't cry on the part where he says "and please remember that I never lied" he gave a smile and nod to Slash haha no idea what that means but I thought it was funny

Thank god nobody mentioned that prior to the show...we would have been expecting a 55 song setlist

I agree completely about Yesterdays. The award for biggest butchering of a GN'R classic by the NITL Boys definitely goes to Yesterdays. They took a song that could have been cheesy but wasn't because GN'R were always gritty, and just made it full on cheesy. I felt like I was watching a commercial at the show with the over the top graphics. Not to mention the way Axl sings it and Slash inexplicably DJ Ashbas the solo. Such a pity.

They should play it as part of an acoustic set on the arena tour. Might bring it to life more.

Stinker of a solo but... No different than the other nights. "50% less notes Slash, like a good lad"

Yesterdays was my least favorite song of the night last night. The graphics are super cheesy and out of place for that song in particular. It felt like I was watching a commercial.

  4. I enjoyed listening to the show on Sirius. I had a listening party at my house with my "A Rig" sound system. The mix was fantastic. Axl sounded like 2017 NITL Axl. Which is to say very meh. Autopilot has definitely been engaged.

The band sounded great and very tight even though Frank's style is still very wrong for Guns, but that's 10 years old news.

I will say that I thought it was very lazy to not prepare a new song or even a new old song. But what are you gonna do. NITL tour is very much Corporate Rock.

Still blew the shit out of Appetite for Democracy. 7/10

You obviously don't know what you're talking about

Half of UYI was written with or before the AFD material.

Half of UYI was written by or with Izzy.

Over half of the GNR catalogue was written by or with Izzy.

Slash hardly ever wrote anything for GNR (aside from solos obviously).

    Duff wrote even less.

Slash and Duff weren't even in the band yet, when some (classic) GNR songs were written ...

Strictly speaking from a songwriting point of view, the reason the last GNR album with original material was released in '91, is because Izzy left even before it was released.  It all went downhill from there and ended in '96.

    GNR died when Izzy left.

    RIP.

How can you say Slash hardly wrote anything for GN'R? That's simply not true. And Duff wrote even less? Also not true. I know people want to defend Izzy's legacy but let's not get carried away here.

Found it! I shouldve included it in the description box so mick walls book last of the giants claims dave lank wrote some of the lyrics

    Hmm sounds vague.

The lyrics sound extremely Axl and very specific to Axl's situation. Very similar to Garden of Eden. I would believe that Axl collaborated with Dave Lank on the lyrics, but until someone asks Axl, Slash, or Duff I think it's a stretch to say that Dave Lank wrote the majority of the lyrics.

Weird, I've watched the Deer Creek bootleg many times and I can detect Izzy's guitar! That was basically my ''go to'' bootleg for that period.

I just quickly listened to Live and Let Die from that show... Nothing.

I love that boot too. Been listening to it for over 25 years!

And for the record I don't feel strongly about Fortus one way or the other. Pretty generic IMO. I would have preferred Gilby or Kushner. Hell even Frank Sidoris..

None of the above really fit my opinion of him. I really like his contributions to early GN'R (just listen to his parts on WTTJ and his electric work on OIAM) and it really was too bad he didn't get to shine more on UYI, although that was probably his own fault mostly. That beign said, since then he had adopted a less interesting guitar playing style.

All this being said, I still rate him as a better song writer.

I agree with you on this. It seems that Izzy was equally to blame for his relative absence on UYI.

And to all the people who are clamoring for Izzy to be the rhythm guitarist for NITL I would really suggest that you watch a show from '91. Except for a few songs GNR is basically a one guitar band on that tour. You can't hear Izzy at all. And I still contend that I haven't heard a note from his guitar on any NUGUNS guest spots.

I like this tone too.   It seems to challenge him to use it live maybe?  His style is linked to over saturation and sustain, and this is the opposite.  Theres more 'space' for nuance and he has spent most of his life filling that space with saturation.

To my ears theres places on VR's Libertad that has a similar, smaller tone.  Using Gretch guitar and Vox amps sometimes.

    Agreed on all points.

Messages hints at this tone. But doesn't fully commit.

Slash is not into it at all with this song...

The way they perform Yesterdays on this tour makes me think that they should shelve it for now and bring it back as part of an Acoustic Set on the arena tour. It would probably actually sound really good that way.

And although Slash is fumbling through the solo I love that tone. It's the first time I've heard it from Slash since the AMA Patience with Don Henley.
